  1. Hello Sister Sandra, on Wednesday, with the help of one of the nurses, we managed to add my husband to my Netflix account and have the "Moving Art" programme listed on his tv. I'll be visiting him over the weekend, and will see how its going. On Wednesday the staff had moved him into the dining/lounge area for the morning but his condition appears to have worsened, his eyes were open but not moving - its just awful to see him like that. But, you never know, the music and movement might stimulate his brain. Again, thanks again for help with this programme Sister Sandra , it may even be useful for other patients in the nursing home too.
  2. Thanks Sister Sandra - I'll have a chat to the nursing home, and see if I can download the programme to his tv using my details. My husband does sometimes focus on the tv which is placed on the wall in front of his bed, but who knows what exactly goes through his mind. He rarely speaks, but does watch staff as they move around his room. And these days each time I visit he's been asleep. But I'll certainly give it a try in the next few days and let you know how it goes. Thank you so much for your help.
  3. Thanks Brother Greg, but he doesn't have access to youtube so that's why I was hoping to find a musical screen saver with changing scenes. He was at sea for most of his working life and water or sea scenes would be ideal, but I need to be able to download the music etc onto a usb then plug it into his tv to catch his attention. I'm not sure if I could transfer youtube videos onto a usb. And the 3 hour length is brilliant. I've managed to download his favourite vocal artists onto a usb (through sheer fluke of course) and that just plugs straight into his CD player which is great, but it would be good to keep his mind a little occupied watching something. Thanks again for your help, I'm sure something will turn up eventually.
  4. Hello, my husband, is 83 years old and is deep into Dementia (and doesn't recognize me at all). He is not a JW. He is now paralyzed after having two strokes and spends most of his time in bed, or half sitting/laying on a long wheelchair in the tv room of a beautiful aged care facility almost next door to where I live. The staff are lovely, and very caring about the patients. They have suggested I try to locate a longish video showing scenic pictures with soft music as a background. Luckily I remembered a 2013 screen saver on my computer called "By the Sea Ocean Music" which plays soft music along with waves breaking on the seashore, and has 240 scenes of beaches, trees, sunsets etc. It also shows the 2013 yeartext across the top, so obviously this has been compiled by a brother or sister. Does anyone know of any other screen savers in a similar vein that I can download onto a usb for him to watch or just lie there and listen to? I cannot remember how I came to download this particular Ocean Music screen saver. I would appreciate any help, as I'm at a loss as how to locate this type of programme, Thank you
  5. Sorry for taking so long to reply Burt, my emails then my computer went down which has been a bit frustrating. I haven't re-read the article, but the connection must've been mentioned somehow otherwise I wouldn't have picked up on it. I record the public talks but not the watchtower meetings, so I cant pinpoint exactly what was said. Ive probably got the joint king and ally words mixed up, which after two strokes, isn't surprising. I mentioned the article in a txt to one of our elders, but he hasn't commented one way or the other.
  6. Today I watched the 49 minute programme on Leonard Warwick and the crimes this absolutely evil person committed. His wife was a Jehovahs Witness and the congregation helped her and her young daughter move (hide) away from the area they had been living. He retaliated by harming anyone involved who helped his wife during the custody dispute. First her brother was shot in his bed but Warwick was found not guilty. He then shot a Family Court judge at his front door; bombed the house of another Family Court judge (fortunately killing none of the three people inside); blew up the Family Court Courthouse in Paramatta (no casualties); blew up a third Family Court judges home, killing the judges wife; placed a bomb in the car of the Family Court solicitor acting for his wife. THEN, blew up the Kingdom Hall in Casula, Sydney where 125 congregation members were meeting, killing Brother Graham Wykes who was giving a talk. His totally distraught wife gave the little girl back to this monster and the violence stopped. He was finally nailed by his own DNA - a blood sample taken at the time of a break-in at the Kingdom Hall the night before the explosion. Blood splatter was left after he cut himself on broken glass whilst entering the building - DNA testing was unknown back in 1985. A dreadful and ghastly experience for the witnesses involved, many would've had nightmares for years. We were at an Assembly at the time, and the Circuit Overseer gave the sad news after lunch that day. Its taken over 30 years, but justice has finally been served. I'm not sure if the wife is still in the truth.
  7. Bro Greg, I wasn’t trying to get involved in politics, my comment was to affirm what we recently studied about the King of the North being a China/Russia joint King. The most interesting part of the quoted article was how close China and Russia have become, particularly in security and defence. I’ve never before read that China and Russia were such close allies, and this article only confirms what the Watchtower stated. Our magazines are written many months prior to publication and this article so proves that Jehovah has long range vision and things are well in hand. Prophecy is definitely being fulfilled before our eyes. When I first came into the truth in the 1970s my study conductor advised me to always watch the news, and forty odd years later I’m still doing so.
  8. Further on the subject of the Kings of the North and South - here is what has been published in todays online ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corp) website this morning..... China's newfound intimacy with once-rival Russia is proving a strategic blind spot for Australia Analysis: China is on everyone's mind, but there's another country we should be watching too We have become very China-centric in our strategic thinking in Australia — and this could be to our detriment. Beijing's deepening defence ties with Russia remain a blind spot in our public debate that we need to start paying attention to. China and Russia, once unlikely partners, have grown much closer in recent years, especially when it comes to security and defence. The two countries are closer now than at any point since late 1940s-early '50s. Quite a long and interesting article. For those that are interested in reading the article, the website details are.......... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-22/china-russia-relationship-australia-strategic-blind-spot/12582356 As the saying goes - "Hold onto your hats. Its all happening folks"
  9. Thank you so much Brothers - both pages printed and ready to go into folders. We will be able to refer to them so easily, without having to resort to trying to remember the publication the chart was in. Its so wonderful having brothers and sisters that are so helpful. Much love to you all.
  10. I realise I might sound picky, but the coloured charts are so much easier to read. (And my printer is too complicated for me to work out how to increase the size of the chart.) When we come across something really interesting in our Family Worship, we print up colour copies and save them in a folder with clear pockets to enable us to locate and refresh our memories. Seeing things (particularly in colour) allows us both to understand more clearly, as sometimes trying to figure it all out in our head doesn't quite do the trick. Over the years we've amassed quite a lot of reference material. Many thanks for trying to help though sister Carole.
  11. Can anyone please advise how I can print the chart of the prophets which is on pages 20 and 21 of the 'Jehovahs Day' book? I can access it via the Library disc (which is downloaded onto my computer) but there doesn't appear to be any way to print the chart directly from the Library. A sister and I do the bible reading as our Family Worship and as neither of us have very good eyesight, being able to read it on a full A4 page would be very helpful. Would appreciate any help.
  12. I subscribe to our National Broadcaster (the ABC - Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and they send me various topics of interest regarding health and wellbeing. On 14 June 2017, I received an email with the article 'Can you die from old age?' that had been posted on their webpage the previous day. It was an ok article, but two headings were of particular interest (which I've highlighted in blue). ************************************ Why do we age? While a healthy diet and exercise can help keep us younger on the inside, we can't completely stop our cells from ageing as the years roll by. Exactly why is complicated and scientists don't have all the answers. One common notion is that there is something in our genes — a biological clock — that causes us to tick towards old age. Another is that over time, our body and DNA accumulate damage. Key to this is the idea of cellular senescence – a biological phenomenon in which cells stop dividing. When senescence sets in, it limits our ability to repair tissue when we get injured. Senescent cells release substances that encourage chronic inflammation in the body, increasing a person's risk of cancer and other conditions like arthritis. Another focus of modern research is telomeres – structures on the ends of our gene-carrying chromosomes that shorten with age. When this happens, the risk of disease seems to increase. "The question is whether [telomeres] play a causative role in ageing, and what intervention will alter ageing in a safe way," says Dr Lindsay Wu, head of the Laboratory for Ageing Research at UNSW. Experiments to extend telomeres in animals have been mixed – in some animal experiments, higher cancer rates were seen, but in others the process protected against some signs of ageing. "The jury's still out on whether telomere lengthening is useful [in combating ageing]," Dr Wu says. Can we stop the process of ageing? Researchers all over the world are hard at work exploring ways to arrest the ageing process. One area of particular focus is drugs that could kill off cells that have reached the point where they stop dividing. In one study, scientists extended the lives of mice by progressively removing these senescent cells from their bodies. Another area of interest centres around the drug metformin, which has been used to treat type 2 diabetes for decades and has been shown to keep animals healthy and extend their life. A clinical trial called TAME (Treating Aging with Metformin) is currently testing whether metformin can act in a similar way in humans. *********************************************************************** The article is much longer of course, but isn't it interesting how scientists are actually thinking they may have found keys to understanding the ageing process. They might think its complicated but only because they don't accept that our creator made us perfect to begin with, then made us imperfect. Simple concepts are beyond their comprehension.
  13. I've been offline for a while, but could I add my 5 letters to the count. Makes the total now 2192.
  14. Stunning picture of Sydney Harbour showing the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
  15. Hello, thanks for your replies and help - I've been away puppy-sitting for the last five days or so with no access to the internet. About four years ago I upgraded to Windows 7 (stop laughing all you tech people) but goodness knows what my Excel version is. I finally did manage to work it out, the landscape was relatively easy (comes up when going to print), but the wrap-around a bit more difficult. Already, just a week or so later, I've forgotten how to do it so will have to write it down on the back page of my diary and refer back to it next time. Can't wait to get that perfect memory.
