  1. After being totally unprepared for an ice storm two weeks ago that left us without power for 6 days in single digit temps, (other than owning a generator, which doesn't do much good if you don't have the right equipment to make it run your furnace and well pump) we were prepared this time. We got over 18" of snow the past two days. We are now more worried about the bitter cold and wind. This has been the worst winter in years for the Flint area. The snowmobilers are very happy though, as they have been wizzing by for two days. It has made me realize that I need to take the Branches advice and get an emergency kit together. We don't know when we will need it.
  2. Yep I'm in the land of screwed. Got a snow day off work though. Flint has been hit hard. We have over 18" of snow at our house. Now the cleanup begins....
  3. Having grown up in Hernando County, Florida I can see some things haven't changed. LOL
  4. I have had great success placing the magazines when featuring the awake this month. It really gets people thinking. They want change but aren't able to grasp how to achieve it. Tying in the model prayer about the kingdom bringing peaceful conditions on the earth has really been nice.
  5. Last year when Guy Pierce from the Governing Body visited our circuit assembly he showed us a light grey leather Bible that they were "trying out" to see how durable it is. Interesting.
  6. I love Jack Russell's too!! I had one named Gordon for nine years until a perfect storm erupted and he thought he could win a battle with the UPS truck and lost. (I still feel like it was the last nasty thing that Satan could do to me after I was baptized since nothing else worked to slow me down, it only makes me hate him worse). He was my second child and the smartest little bugger you have ever met. I have a new computer and the old one is at the shop or I would post a picture of him. I have a dachshund now (well he is really my mom's, but he let's me be his second rate buddy) but it is never the same, even though Slinky is the cutest little doggie I have ever seen. In the meantime, I continually beg my husband to let me get another JRT, but he hasn't relented as he never wants to see me as heartbroken as I was when I lost my Gordie Gordo. There is just something about the breed. They own you and not the other way around.
  7. My first thought when I heard about the movie was being appalled. Who wants to watch children harm and kill each other? Especially when the premise of the movie is that it is all a "game". It makes me think about violent/warlike video games and bruising the conscience so that it is no longer bothered. Whether or not it is demonic is up for debate here. I always think before I go see some "fad" movie about something that our District Overseer said at our last circuit assembly. It was something to the effect of "if it is popular with the world, then you can be certain that the demons are behind it or involved in it in some way". This is the same type of fad that Harry Potter and Twilight first started as and will continue as the next movie is already in the works. Just my thoughts.
  8. MURDER AT WALMART Tired of constantly being broke & stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife with himself as the beneficiary, and then arranging to have her killed. A 'friend of a friend' put him in touch with a nefarious dark-side underworld figure who went by the name of 'Artie.' Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was $5,000. The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money. Artie insisted on being paid at least something up front, so the man opened his wallet, displaying the single dollar bill that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, & reluctantly agreed to accept the dollar as down payment for the dirty deed. A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Super Wal-Mart store. There, he surprised her in the produce department & proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath & slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the murder scene. Unwilling to leave any living witnesses behind, ol' Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well. However, unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by the hidden security cameras & observed by the store's security guard, who i immediately called the police. Artie was caught and arrested before he could even leave the store. Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the whole sordid plan, including his unusual financial arrangements with the hapless husband who was also quickly arrested. The next day in the newspaper, the headline declared... (You'regoing to hate me for this...) 'ARTIE CHOKES 2 for $1.00 @ WAL-MART!'
  9. I finally figured out why I am fat! I should have figured it out sooner. It's the shampoo I use in the shower. When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body. Printed very clearly on the shampoo label it reads, "FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY." I have gotten rid of the shampoo and I am going to start using Dawn dish soap. On its label reads, "DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE." Problem Solved (If only it were that easy!)
  10. Two hillbillies are having lunch when a woman seated nearby begins to choke. Hillbilly asks her,"kin ya swallar?" The woman shakes her head no. Hillbilly asks her "kin ya breathe?" Woman shakes her head no. Hillbilly walks over, lifts up her dress, yanks down her britches and licks her butt cheek. The woman has a violent spasm and spits out food. The hillbilly's buddy says "ya know,I heerd of that there hind lick maneuver but I aint niver seed nobody do it" )'>
  11. I have the tendency to call people a "dork" , which in my definition meant nerd, doofus, goof, etc. I called my service partner it one day when she did something completely dumb without thinking about it. As I have ADHD and talk a mile a minute I didn't hear anything else about the conversation until she texted me that evening and asked me if I heard what Howard said about me calling her a dork. When I said no, why, she asked me if I knew what a dork is, I said yes, but many words are not used in there original context and that what I meant. Apparently, when I called her that in service she said I couldn't say that out in service, as I kept babbling in my own world the 87 year old brother in the front seat says, "maybe we should draw her a picture!" Oops! Not only has he been an elder for 50 years, but he has a child on the writing commitee for the US branch and is the voice on many of the audio tapes in English. I'm glad that I was oblivious when it was going on, just the thought of that brother drawing me a picture puts me in stitches. P.S. If you don't know what a dork is you will have to look it up in a dictionary yourself...I have officially wiped it from my vocabulary.
  12. I too have a doxie. His name is appropriately Slinky (aka Toy Story dog). He is very funny and brings a smile to my face every day.
  13. After being away from the truth for a dozen years and moving to another state far from "home", I was read this scripture by an elder in my congregation: (Isaiah 55:6-7) 6 Search for Jehovah, YOU people, while he may be found. Call to him while he proves to be near. 7 Let the wicked man leave his way, and the harmful man his thoughts; and let him return to Jehovah, who will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for he will forgive in a large way. I still love it and read it often. I also was terrified to go into the Kingdom Hall and the only people who I knew there were out of town my first time back. I prayed on my way into the hall for help, walked in and sat down, and then a sister walked up to me and asked me if I would like to sit with her and her husband. It just proved to me that Jehovah was listening and that he cared. Jehovah listens and will help, sometimes we just have to have the courage to help him help us.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
