Yesterday at a mall during service, a sister and I were promptly asked us to get up. Why? Because, according to the security guard, we were sitting for more than 15 minutes. He said he (they?) were watching us. Further, he said that the seats were for shoppers who are allowed 15 minutes to sit, that "it's a new thing."
So without any ruckus of course, we got up and went our way. The reason we go to the mall is for heat during the winter, and coolness during the summer. A lot of us (mostly pioneers) want and need to stay out longer after the group is finished. I, for one, cannot be out and walk in the cold and heat.
I do have a problem though with the "15 minutes" sitting even for the shoppers. We've witnessed many older, elderly shoppers who actually need to sit linger. They're in company with younger ones, where they wait for the younger ones to leave the stores. Some are just completely tired. Some may say the older, elderly ones should just stay home, but why should they?
Anyway, we friends will just have to find another way to stay out longer that's all. It looks like I'll have to start spending money on stamps, and improve in telephone witnessing when the days are just too hot or too cold.
Who knows? They might even start preventing from coming inside if they feel we're not shopping. But I still love Targets and BestBuy. Lol.

I have not seen a mall where we were allowed pracitce our ministry. Malls being private propery get to set their own rule and most exclude proselytizing in any form. What form of service were you involved in?
I agree the 15 minute rule for shoppers is overboard.
Maybe you should check with management on the 15 minute rule, you would not need to mention service at all. No reason to wave a red flag.

We'll just sit and offer literature/ talk to those passing by and sit next to us.
And though the thought of who owns it has never occurred to me, I didn't know it was private property. Thank you for that.
There's a hotel in the downtown area where they don't mind us using the bathroom. However, they don't want us preaching inside. So we don't. As we approach, we just put our literature away before we enter.
As far as you saying to speak with management, I found that interesting seeing tonight a brother mentioned the same thing to me tonight. So I will.
Thanks.
