  1. On a personal note, I lost my brother (my only sibling) aged 71 to lung cancer Stage IV. >10 years ago. He was >20 years my senior. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/11/10/cancer-health-care-reporter-229889 I am 32 years old and I am going through menopause. It’s temporary, and I chose to endure it when I got a life-threatening breast cancer diagnosis a year ago. But it’s a lot worse than I expected....... Now I realize what the cancer club really is. It’s a real network of patients who pass advice to one another—in my experience, over social media—about how to pick treatment programs and how to deal with their side effects. (My favorite cancer club recommendation? Taking Claritin to help with bone pain caused by a drug intended to keep my white blood cell count up so that I can keep receiving chemotherapy. Also, ginger candies.)
  2. https://www.yahoo.com/gma/daughter-chronicles-dads-death-covid-19-cannot-believe-163449036--abc-news-parenting.html Good Morning America April 15, 2020 May we feel a kindred spirit with those who lost their loved ones in this tragic and ongoing calamity befalling many around the world. Prayers and sharing a hope with all these disconsolate ones who are suffering from the sudden loss of their deeply cherished loved ones.
  3. https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-05-08/how-the-coronavirus-began-as-a-disease-of-the-rich In Nigeria — Africa’s largest economy but also one of its most unequal, where two in five people survive on $1 a day or less. Some of the first COVID-19 patients were political figures. Some were believed to have been infected while traveling in Europe or Egypt, drawing snickers from working-class Nigerians fed up with official corruption and the perks enjoyed by a moneyed class famous for its passports and plane tickets. “A lot of Nigerians were very happy, saying, ‘Maybe all of our leaders will get sick and we’ll get a new government,’”..
  4. I'm following the multiple threads regarding the Letter Writing Campaign to Russia, and I thought we should have somewhere to add some experiences. Sooner or later, this will wind down, and we'll be telling stories and experiences about this from here to GT. I thought it would be a good idea to collate some of the stats, some of the news articles, and some of the experiences. Here's some of the highlights that I've gathered. if these things are in error, please let me know: ~oo00oo~ DHL Russia (a courier service) has stopped accepting documents (containing letters to officials) from the Philippines. These brothers will have to use the standard national post. DHL in the Dominican Republic is giving a JW Discount on packages of letters to Russia. Canada post has temporarily suspended acceptance of non-document shipments via Priority Worldwide destined for the Russian Federation. International Stamps are selling out in several post offices (Confirmed in New York, unconfirmed for the UK.) Some nations, such as Ghana, require phone numbers of the intended recipient to ship mail by express courier. Brothers in those lands have already been updated with phone numbers for all these addresses. Several Post Office workers have come to recognize us when we come in, already aware of the campaign. (Specific experiences appreciated) ~oo00oo~ Anyone have any others they'd like to add?
  5. Over the last week or two, we've studied how the Church put the Bible under lock and key, when it wasn't destroying it outright. In 2008, this article came up in the news near here. http://www.thenational.ae/news/world/asia-pacific/catholic-dominance-intimidates-other-faiths#full I would especially draw attention to the second paragraph in the article: After hearing about how the bible was forbidden to anyone outside the Clergy in the Dark Ages, it struck me as amazing that this was happening in 2005; and probably still today. The tactics haven't changed in 2000 years.
  6. Goodreads is a book review site. Any member can add a review or a rating to any book. Earlier today, on a lark, I did a search for us, and I found that all our lit is already there. I'd like to add this link to the Bible Teach Book page. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2387150.What_Does_The_Bible_Really_Teach_ Several of the reviews are not from JW's, and still quite complimentary. Here are few quotes from various reviews: I've been following this site all day, and it's a little like crowd-sourcing ministry experiences from people, even outside the cong. Very encouraging. There are some negative reviews, of course. It's still the internet, after all. But most of the one-stars reviews I saw? It was blatantly obvious that they never even read the book, or talked to us about it.
  7. This is one of my favorite experiences I've heard: A sister was married to an unbelieving husband. But he was allowing of her being a witness and going out in service. One day, she went to a door where the householder punched her in the eye for trying to offer him a watchtower. She later goes home and her husband immediately sees her injured eye. The sister refused to tell what happened to her. So the husband says, "if you don't tell me who did this to you, I promise you'll never see another meeting, another watchtower, or another Bible". Fearing losing her spiritual privileges from her own husband, she confessed to him what happened and who did it. The husband went over to the man who hurt his wife. He pounded on the door, and when the man answered it he was immediately afraid. The husband was a very tall, very muscular former soldier. "A couple Jehovah's witnesses came to your house! Did you hit one of them?!" The man quietly nodded. "Well, that was my wife"! The man begged and pleaded for forgiveness. The husband pulled out a watchtower and showed it to the man. "This is what my wife was offering you. Read it! And the next time I come back you better answer correctly every question I ask you about it. If you don't, I will kill you". The husband went home and asked his wife to teach him what the watchtower was saying. Some time later, the husband visited the man, and he answered every question the husband asked. So the husband pulled out a Bible Teach book. "I want you to read this now. This time, if you can answer correctly every question I ask the next time I come back not only will I kill you, but I will torture you before you die". Well, it's safe to say the man survived the next visit. And the two men not only became witnesses, not only two of the best of friends, but also Bethalites!
