  1. This is a whimsical post, so don't take anything too seriously. A while ago I thought of a scenario: in the year 18,490,383, how old will you be and how do you convey that to someone else? At some point you'd probably stop counting because it's meaningless, but maybe you are talking with someone else and you want to know who is older (for no good reason, of course). So what do you do? Give your birth year? That helps, but if you died then that year isn't very useful to determine your age. Are we going to be using a new calendar system? For a lot of resurrected ones the answer is yes (Ancient Israelites calculated years by the reign of Kings). This adds another layer of complication. You'd have to account for all the years you were dead, if you were resurrected, and coalesce possibly 2 or more different calendar systems to arrive at a total. And each year that passes you must recalculate. Is there a better way? Here's mine: Born before Armageddon, survived into the New System: You say: I was 1000 + 30 years old during the Final Test Translation: I was 30 years old when Armageddon started and never died. Born before Armageddon, died, and resurrected in the New System: You say: I was 990 + 75 years old during the Final Test. Translation: I was 75 when I died in the Old System and was resurrected 10 years into the Millennial Reign. Born during the 1000 Year Reign: You say: I was born 645 years before the Final Test. Translation: I was born during the Millennial Reign; never died, never resurrected. Born after the 1000 Year Reign: You say: I was born 246 years after the Final Test Translation: you get it What Noah might say: I was 950 + 990 years old during the Final Test. Translation: He died at the age of 950 and was resurrected 10 years into the Millennial Reign. As you can see, all of these calculations revolve around one point: the Final Test. Is that arbitrary? Yes, a little. But it will be a pivotal moment in human history as it officially returns us to the state of perfection we lost when Adam and Eve sinned, so there's that. Why I like this: -The only numbers you need to know is your age before Armageddon (which is 0 if you weren't born) and a birth or resurrection date after Armageddon. -the numbers you give to convey your age do not change each year. You will not have to recalculate it each year or take into account what the current month is in order to convey your age. So once you memorize it - that's it. Have you ever thought about this topic and do you have your own ideas of how things will be? Feel free to tell me I'm WAY off base, I love new ideas!
  2. This is my first poll. Had to struggle a bit because I didn't know how to go about it. I have always wondered whether the kind of animals a person favors as pets, tells a little something about a person.
  3. "Just See Yourself..." by Thomas Walker A Story Thousands of Years In The Making! For two thousand years, followers of Jehovah God and his son, Jesus Christ have been waiting for The Day! The Bible promises wonderful things that would take place during the Thousand Year Reign of the Messianic King. But so many people never heard that message, or never believed it could be true, when confronted with a cold and wicked world. What future for them? Hugh Alman was a pilot during the Second World War. With no idea of what the future held, he has awoken in a long promised Paradise Earth; where nobody would ever grow old, grow sick, or die. But with Eternal Life comes challenges, and rewards... and most importantly, choices. *** My whole life, we've been told to 'keep our eyes on the prize'. This book began as a form of personal study, and grew to a full sized novel. It's been one of the more rewarding efforts of my life, and I've received some very positive feedback from others in my cong. I have put the whole book up for free, chapter by chapter, on a dedicated blog. And after enough people asked for a hardcopy version, I also put it up on Amazon, as cheap as I could make it. (It was the only way to handle printing and shipping costs.) As it happens, that's what lead me to JWTalk. Looking for guidance on how to approach publication, I found the works of EK Jonathan being discussed here. Writing this book took me in a lot of directions I didn't expect, and I hope you will all enjoy it.
  4. After watching so many dramas and videos (>100 just in the recent convention), I was wondering if we could just picture one of our JWtalk members taking on the roles played by the many characters in a Bible reenactment. Suspend your imagination/disbelief (?) for a moment, and nominate a brother or sister to play a character in the bible. Or even in a modern setting for a movie. We may not know how a friend look like. Perhaps we can ask for his/her details (a curvaceous body, bushy eyebrows, big built, muscular, height) You can also nominate yourself at the present age or your younger self (It would come in handy in the New System) So let your imagination take flight and let us have some fun while we are at it. Something along these lines : Villain (Achan), Royalty (King David) prophet (Daniel) patriarch (Abraham), voice of God, warrior (Joshua) exemplary women (Sarah) Yourself (Bathsheba, Absalom, Queen Esther) Funny guy (errr......talking donkey?
