The German bishop widely criticiised for his lavish spending has been suspended.

News just in.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24638430

The Vatican has suspended a senior German Church leader dubbed the "bishop of bling" by the media over his alleged lavish spending.

Calls were made for the Bishop of Limburg, Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst, to resign after he was accused of lying under oath about his spending.

The Vatican said it deemed "appropriate... a period of leave from the diocese" for the bishop.

Pope Francis has preached frugality since taking office in March.

He must have been spending a lot of money  to get the popes attention. Probably he spent even the Popes cut. :) He realized money does not grow on trees but given in church so why care on how you spend it, besides 10% of all the salaries is under their management.

it's quite the scandal - people are now getting angry because of the "Kirchensteuer" (church tax), don't want to pay it any longer when it's wasted like that. Lots of people leave the church because of it anyway, but now the media starts to critizise it too.

Familiar with the TV show 'Rate my Crib' in MTV? They should make a new reality show and call it 'Catholic Cribs'. It could run after Preachers of LA maybe even in a new network called the HSN channel for Holy Spirit.

Are not our Brother allowed to be exempted from paying this "church tax"?

I know the church has held the threat of not burying the dead if the members did not pay the tax. I think people just don't care anymore.

I just read about he Bishop of Bling, and it said that the Vatican wants to house to be turned into a home to feed and bed the homeless.   Well, now that his mansion is no longer his, he can come to N.C., and join the preacher and his wife, who built a bigger mansion with church monies and con games on the unsuspecting parishioners.
