Portable WTL

Recommended Posts

Not sure what you mean by "portable"? I always copy the contents of the CD ROM to a folder on my USB thumbdrive and that way I can do installations on devices that do not have CD Drives. Is that what you mean?

No, Chuck

By portable I mean make it in a way I don't need to install anything

Many applications have a portable version, from winzip to photoshop. You just put the portable file (usually just an "exe" file) in a thumbdrive and wherever you use the drive you just execute the file without installation.

It's main use is to be able to access applications in computers without administrative privileges (required to make any instalation)... It doesn't need to write any file file to windows directory or access any system file either so it's a safe version on those environments.

I know it's possible to pick any application (by it's installation files) and create a portable file... Just don't know how :(

Why do all this though?

The app on a tablet is way easier, no?

Which app on the tablet??

How do you access the 1999 - Jan 1 Watchtower on that app?

Plan ahead as if Armageddon will not come in your lifetime, but lead your life as if it will come tomorrow (w 2004 Dec. 1 page 29)

Soon .....

I see what you mean.

I went to the app, clicked on the library.

It takes you to the online library which as far as I can see only goes back to 2000.

I believe our service overseer recently told a brother as we were behind the counter doing literature, that the cd-rom will be phased out and all will be online.

And because of the new info/understandings as time has progressed, they don't want us referencing to old literature. There's enough info in 14 years Since 2000 to cover almost everything.

(I'm not making any claims, just relaying what my elder expressed to me)

Hi Alex. I think that elder was just expressing his view, but I don't see that happening in the short term.

While it's true that recent publications are preferable, there are a lot of subjects that have not been treated for many years, and those older articles are still the last word. Quite often we still see references to Watchtower articles from the 90s, the 80s and even the 70s. There are also several important books and publications that are not available at wol.jw.org. Our Kingdom Ministry, for example. Or Daniel's Prophecy book.

Most indepth articles and books that analyze a passage of the Scriptures or a Bible book verse by verse are previous to 2000.

I do believe we will still use the cdrom for quite a few years.
