A company called Big Finish made a lot of spin-off Doctor Who stories, and along with the writers of the New Adventures, kept Doctor Who alive during the wilderness years!

They did a series called Dalek Empire which I bought recently and have to say it's amazing. The Doctor isn't even in it, but the Daleks are just so scheming!
It's so well made (doesn't your imagination make the best special effects?!)

Has anyone else listened to anything by Big Finish?

Bill I have never heard of Big Finish but I'm a Dr. Who fan and I loved Red Dwarf!!!! (My husband just bought me a Dr. Who bathrobe that looks like my favorite Doctor's gettup - Tom Baker's! Long scarf and all! I must say, whoever wrote this series must be a fantastic writer to make the Dalek's so interesting that they didn't need Dr. Who in the story! (Daleks are my least favorite villian's of Dr. Who because I can't stand their voice!!)

I'm intrigued now and must check into this series.

By the way, are you a Dr. Who Fan? What do you think of Peter Capaldi? I'm one of those fans that hates change but when it commes I see why and accept it.

Wish Red Dwarf would do a "regeneration" too!

I loved Peter Capaldi's first episode. I think he will be great.

The "Big Finish" series above starts with the Daleks invading a planet called Vega.
The population is enslaved and is being worked to death. Nothing they do is ever good enough to meet the Daleks quotas.
One person, in desperation starts shouting at one of the Daleks, however rather than being exterminated, her "higher brain function" attracts the attention of the Emperor.

She explains that they are being worked to death. The Daleks don't care. They can always get more slaves.
She explans that if they just got food and rest they would work better. If they have hope, they will work better.
The Daleks agree. With work and rest, productivity improves.
The girl gets a reputation as the 'angel of mercy' - when she comes to your planet, conditions get better.
However, she has a telepathic friend who travels everywhere with her, who is sending a message of rebellion amongst everyone they meet.

The Daleks know this is happening...

In The Trial of a Time Lord (Colin Baker), the Valeyard is said to be "somewhere between his twelfth and final incarnations".

The last few episodes show that Smith was really 12, and Capaldi 13, so the timing is right for the Valeyard to pop up. And so far, "heaven" is only shown when someone dies at the hand, or direction, of the Doctor, which fits right in with the trial held by the Valeyard.

I think it was speculated that she could be the Tardis  (one from the past or the one he uses now that is later destroyed) or something like that.  Don't think I'm leaning toward this theory because I get a bad vibe from her.
