I thought the case in Hawaii tested negative? Regardless, with the case in Texas consider this : http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/02/us-health-ebola-usa-idUSKCN0HP2F720141002

They're saying he exposed up to 100 people to the ebola virus and 4 are in quarantine...Ok, so say only 10-20 at most actually start displaying symptoms? No problem, right? Wrong! What if each of those 10-20 people were around 5-10 people? It could get out of hand very easily!

Oh wow! I just noticed this and it freaked me out a bit "Health officials said on Thursday that 12 to 18 people had direct contact with the patient, who flew to Texas from Liberia via Brussels and Washington two weeks ago, and they in turn had contact with scores of others."

I just saw the news from Texas about this man and his family, The wife got out and so did 3 of family members.  I said they wouldn't be able to stay in that house or apartment.  A judge had to order a injunction against the family to stay put for 21 days.  The "perhaps" infected family members are not going to stay put in the house.  3 of them got out today and the police had to escort them back, and now the police and their vehicles are quarantine too!   How stupid can people be!  Reminds me of the Israelite's always wanting their way or no way!

I sorta don't blame his wife, if there are still infected garments in that house and there's no food to eat and she has kids to provide for, that would be a little worrisome....

I wonder what they will do with all of the contaminated items?  Will the families have to burn their possessions?

The man lied on his questionnaire to fly out of Liberia and now they are seeking prosecution. They asked specifically if he had been in contact with anyone who had been sick and he said no. Yet they found out he had helped out a pregnant woman that was sick...this is why it is important to tell the truth it could affect so many other innocent people.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/10/02/nbc-says-cameraman-tested-positive-for-ebola-entire-crew-to-be-flown-home/

The network reported the freelancer, identified as Ashoka Mukpo, was just hired Tuesday to be a second cameraman for its medical editor, Nancy Snyderman, a physician. It said the freelancer, who has been working in Liberia for some time, showed symptoms Wednesday and was feeling “tired and achy” before being tested.

The network said the 33-year old cameraman, who is also a writer, was taken to a Doctors Without Borders treatment center and the positive result came back 12 hours later.

They are seriously downplaying how easily it spreads. If they are sterilizing the ambulance and whole areas where these people have been that means it can be passed very easily...not just by touching the person like they are trying to say. The whole apartment complex this man lived in is being watched as well not for the family but to see anyone else who is sick right away I'm sure.

Well as far as sterilizing the ambulance and other surfaces I wouldn't read too much into that. I was an EMT on a 911 response ambulance for 3 years and it was just standard procedure to sterilize the ambulance and the room in the ER after each patient.

I can tell from the news reports that they are downplaying the seriousness of the spread of this disease on purpose, probably to prevent panic. The problem with this ebola is that they say it is constantly mutating and I've heard they don't know if any of the mutations could eventually turn it into something that could cause infection via air borne. I feel that is when the real worry starts - when someone realizes that this deadly disease is now airborne. Hopefully, it won't happen.

I definitely agree that they may be downplaying this so as not to cause a panic, there are many nutty people out there.

I have already read numerous comments from ones in Texas on our local news sites who are preparing for martial law cause of Ebola.  They are making comments about stocking up on food and guns and ammunition and getting ready, lol.

Now that I think about it, maybe all the nutty people are in Texas where I live.

Breaking news in Texas, Hazmat team is at the home of the Ebola patient and his relatives who have been quarantined.

They will be removing items like towels and sheets and other stuff.

Dallas officials are also saying 50 people being monitored for Ebola, as these ones came in contact with the guy with Ebola while he was contagious.

Washington is also reporting a person is in a local hospital being monitored with symptoms that could be Ebola.

I though whoboy Texas is quite far I hope those friends are safe. But I think we have one here now too. He is quarantined after displaying symptoms and admitting to have traveled to Africa. He was driving under the influence this morning and asked a series of questions and admitted to traveling. It is quite scary and I will probably as a precaution (nervous) add a few more FEMA items.

I heard that this was not Ebola. It is Marburg disease. Ebola kills in 2 days. Liquefies your body. There is nothing left no bones or anything. Marburg disease is a sister disease of ebola. A hemorrhagic fever. It is deadly, but not ebola. It is quite survivable by healthy people in the civilized world with modern medicine and hydration with fluids. So my question is, if this is true y is the media hyping it up to be ebolo?

The cell structures are completely different and they are showing the ebola cells and they describe it as the one that you can hemorrhage with this one when you get close to the point of death.

Ebola Zaire has a 90% mortality rate.

Marburg virus has a 25-33% mortality rate.

I dont want either, but i would rather take my chances w marburg...

So y would the media be calling this Ebola? Hydration and electrolyte balance help a lot. Im stocking up on gatorade!

I don't know but I'm with you on this. I know the information states they are both from the same family and both causes the bleeding at the last stages. I just hope none get it whatever it is.

Just this morning the Today show interviewed a reporter who returned from Liberia, and the questions that Matt Lauer asked were exactly what a fearful person would ask, about whether or not the reporter was in contact with anyone with the disease, and did she have any symptoms, and is she going to quarantine herself before getting in contact with anyone else.

People are really terrified of this thing.   There was also a radio interview of a minister of a church here in the US which is made up of mostly Liberians.  He mentioned that when someone learns that someone is Liberian, they automatically assume that they have Ebola.  He stated that most of his congregation does have family or friends back in Africa who are infected, but most have not been there in many years, and besides, being Liberian does not mean that you have it, and it is kind of unfair for people to assume that.

This is worse than the AIDS epidemic.  People are still dying of AIDS, but there are effective treatments now.  There are none for Ebola, and there is a 90% death rate.

This article tells of a treatment called ZMAPP  that does not work with all strains

Apparently there isn't any more ZMAPP:

The blood issue may become a component in this - pray for our LIberian brothers!

There is pressure to distribute unproven drugs and treatments to populations

I heard a radio show today that interviewed a microbiologist about whether or not the CDC is trying to placate people and if they are telling the truth that Ebola can be effectively contained here in the U.S. The Microbiologist said it's going to get much worse. No one understands why Obama hasn't closed flights to that part of Africa like many other nations have. He also said that actually very few hospitals are eqipped with the special rooms needed to deal with Ebola cases. It wasn't a very encouraging interview. They basically said the CDC is trying to prevent panic by downplaying the situation but that strategy is going to backfire.
