In what is a traditionally quiet period between the AFL Grand Final and the peak of the Spring Racing Carnival, the city’s hotels have been flooded with bookings and prices for remaining rooms are skyrocketing.

Thousands of interstate and overseas visitors are also arriving for the Caulfield Cup, the Melbourne Festival and the Special Olympics National Games.

Pilgrims from more than 60 countries will attend the three-day International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which is tipped to break Etihad Stadium’s record of 70,000 — ironically held by the Catholic Jubilee Mass in 2000.

Thousands of Jehovah’s witnesses knock on Melbourne’s door for three-day convention Herald Sun.htm

I've been in Melbourne since Monday (had some family things to deal with) and the CBD is full of Witnesses. I was surprised to see so many here so early.

Melbournites have been friendly. The only bit of negativity I've encountered is when one lady walked past me, glanced at my lapel card, and uttered a very disgusted "Oh! God!!" That was on Monday afternoon. Imagine how she'll feel when 70,000 of us flood into Etihad Stadium over the weekend. :)

Those people are out there Niall.

Its going to be a great week. They have no idea of all the good stuff they are missing out on.

Having worked as a debit collector and security guard I'm more than used to that attitude. I'm actually having trouble coping with everyone being nice. When I walked off my flight and saw so many witnesses greeting each other like long lost friends, I stopped and took my lapel card off. Pretty sad huh! And I've done the same thing when I see a large number of Witnesses walking around town.

It's not that I don't like crowds, and I don't want to be rude — in fact it kills me each time I do it. And it's not because I don't want to a kind, friendly, person. I'm just not used to people being kind and friendly to me. :(

Sigh! I was hoping that would change. But it looks like it won't be this side of Armageddon. I'm praying Jehovah gives me a few rocks to hide under. (Psalm 18:2)

Still, I wouldn't miss these three days for anything. :)

We got on the ferry to come over her on Wednesday evening. Since then we have not been able to turn around, without running into witnesses.  Yesterday we went to the Victoria markets, where I am sure we outnumbered every one else. My wife is shopped out, well at least until Monday. I shall have to wake her shortly.

I loved the video interviews and the comparison between Satan's record and that of Jesus.

I was given a Calab and Sophie badge at Queen Vic markets yesterday, but I found a young man to pass it on to today. He loved it. His mum said he watches it all the time.

We have a few old and infirm at our congregation who couldn't make it. so I have been recording via FM radio. I also listen by this method as my hearing isn't too good. I t is very strange though as the sound arrives at my location about 500ms after I hear it through FM radio.

We know a sister in a nearby congregation who has major family problems trying to bring up many rebellious children. She has a husband who is learning the truth and they don't have much money and the trip is overseas for us. So we were quite surprised to see them at the assembly.

I wonder how many others have battled to get there. How proud Jehovah must be to see them all there
