Puppy sized SPIDER!

Piotr Naskrecki was taking a nighttime walk in a rainforest in Guyana, when he heard rustling as if something were creeping underfoot. When he turned on his flashlight, he expected to see a small mammal, such as a possum or a rat.

"When I turned on the light, I couldn't quite understand what I was seeing," said Naskrecki, an entomologist and photographer at Harvard University's Museum of Comparative Zoology.

A moment later, he realized he was looking not at a brown, furry mammal, but an enormous, puppy-size spider.

It looks scary but it's so fragile that just falling off that log that it's sitting on would probably kill it. They don't have an internal skeleton to stabilize the "guts" so any real impact to a spider that big would basically scramble their insides. That's why you always see them moving very slowly and methodically if they are off the ground.

This picture is NOT awesome it is CREEPY. Yet, it is part of Jehovah's creation. I probably will love it at the end of 1000 years. It would probably be 999 years and 364 days into Jesus reign.

Once I saw a butterfly that had a wing span of over a foot resting on the outside of my window.  I was so thankful that he was OUTSIDE - but it was a wonder to see,  We are so used to thinking of insects as little things you can crunch under your shoe or swat with a newspaper.  But the things that we will see in the new world will be awesome, undoubtedly!!  Meanwhile, let the foot wide butterflies and the puppy sized spiders stay way, way, over THERE!!

 

This thing is called the South American Goliath Birdeater --- a spider called a BIRDEATER!!!

It does have a venomous bite, but for humans the bite isn't deadly, just very, very painful.

This article also says that this spider sends out super itchy hairs from its legs, also painful when it lands on skin.

Oh, aren't they lovely - the kind of thing an ARACHNO-PHILE would love!

We had a lunar moth on our patio window that was about a foot across the wings but I didn't get a picture of it. They are so beautiful.

I heard that the man who found the giant "puppy" spider, killed it.  The science community is thinking about charging him with animal cruelty.

Guess my Hoover won't work on these large spiders. I am afraid a big stick or a large rock would be my only option. Can't have these crawling around my house or garden. I would get no sleep. No sleep at all.

if I use the hoover to catch one then I have to stick sticky brown tape over the end of the hoover in case they crawl back out, you never know if the suction wasn't enough to kill them.
