12 best meat cities in America

Recommended Posts

With the possible exception of smartphone technology, nothing's seen more practical advances this millennium than food.

While it's true that much of that progress involves vegan, vegetarian and low-meat consumption, carnivory has also seen an impressive evolution.

Bacon-wrapped sausage, sausage-stuffed tenderloin, tenderloin burger on a fried-chicken bun -- eating in the United States is becoming less a matter of sustenance than a game of meat Tetris.

Perhaps in response to years of demonization by health experts, the whole nation has gone meat crazy.

Of course, some parts of the country are more flesh-obsessed than others.

To determine the hierarchy of meat cities, we convened a caucus of nine experts in beef, burgers and barbecue for their top 10s, and made that half of our final score.

10. Las Vegas

Experts: 9th

Consumption: T-5th

Steakhouses: 8th

Events: 8th

But it's also loaded with celebrity-chef steakhouses -- two dozen on the Strip alone, according to Browne.

While it doesn't boast the most meat events, Vegas may claim the most of the largest magnitude.

It hosts the World Open Chili Championship, World Barbecue Championship, World Burger Championship and Bacon World Championship, with purses ranging from $25,000 to $50,000.

Each fall, nearby Laughlin stages the $50,000 USA Barbecue Championship, and just a half-hour outside of town, Boulder City throws the annual Best Dam Barbecue Challenge each spring

I did not even know there was a "Bacon World Championship"

That is VERY important!!!

http://www.worldfoodchampionships.com/competitions/2014

The field for the 2014 World Food Championships will be expanded to nine categories with 550 competitor spots. Returning categories include: Barbecue, Chili, Sandwich, Burger, Dessert, Bacon and Recipe, while Pasta and Seafood have been added as the two new categories. As in years past, the Recipe category is based on a theme of food, and this year that theme will be Cheese.

Using the EAT methodology and a hybrid of sanctioned and celebrity judging processes, in a tournament style competition, the World Food Championships will identify winners in each of the seven key categories of competition. Once the champions of each category are crowned, they will meet at the Final Table for ultimate bragging rights and a pile of cash.

When the smoke clears and the Final Table judges have their say one lucky competitor will be left standing as the World Food Champion.

Recently in QLD a cafe that makes a BLT with Bacon wad taken to court ordered to never cook bacon again.

OMGs..this is cause a Wedding shop next door couldnt handle the bacon aroma.

Bacon is so yummy.

And get some bacon I noticed bacon at a Health food type store with all natural ingredients but the price was too rich for my budget. A small ham was $95.00 . Who on earth can afford that is my question .
