Now this is a little more problematic, depending on your conscience, as it does contain brief nudity and sexual references.

It is the story of the later years of the painter J.M.W.Turner. He is played brilliantly by Timothy Spall.

Mike Leigh has directed an amazing film, the two-and-half hours flew past so quickly. It is not so much a 'period piece' as much as you feel that you inhabit the world of that time. Turner was not a particularly nice person: he exploited his housekeeper both sexually and otherwise; he visited brothels; he had 2 mistresses and illegitimate children he did not recognize as his.

As a painter, though, he was peerless. His relations with the Royal Academy were strained in many ways, as also with contemporaries such as Constable.

The film is very well made and Spall is fantastic. He learned to paint for 2 years in order to portay the part accurately.
