In a few weeks, in the Bible reading, we will go through Joshua 20 about the cities of refuge.

Occasionally our publications discussed the antitypical cities of refuge, such as the 15 November 1995 Watchtower.

With the new light suggesting antitypes are not as commonplace as once thought, what would be the consensus of opinion as to whether there is an antitypical city of refuge?

Prophetic antitypes aren't as common, and not every obscure detail of every event has prophetic significance, but there are striking similarities between the cities of refuge and Christ's ransom sacrifice, so it could be said to be an antitypical relationship.

The November 2014 printing of the God's Love book should maintains that same understanding:

*** lv chap. 7 pp. 84-85 par. 25 Do You Value Life as God Does? ***
Corresponding today with those ancient cities of refuge is God’s provision, based on Christ’s ransom sacrifice, for protecting us from death for accidentally violating God’s commandment about the sanctity of life and blood. Do you value that provision? How can you show that you do? One way is by inviting others to join you in the antitypical city of refuge, especially in view of the fast-approaching “great tribulation.”—Matthew 24:21; 2 Corinthians 6:1, 2.

On the safe side, Jesus is our refuge because he saved others and saving us today and it the future too. The Ransom is really a gift from Jehovah. This magazine will be keep.

Humans cannot know which Bible accounts are shadows of things to come and which are not. The clearest course is this: Where the Scriptures teach that an individual, an event, or an object is typical of something else, we accept it as such. Otherwise, we ought to be reluctant to assign an antitypical application to a certain person or account if there is no specific Scriptural basis for doing so."

Pg 9, 10

"10 As we might expect, over the years Jehovah has helped “the faithful and discreet slave” to become steadily more discreet. Discretion has led to greater caution when it comes to calling a Bible account a prophetic drama unless there is a clear Scriptural basis for doing so. Additionally, it has been found that some of the older explanations about types and antitypes are unduly difficult for many to grasp. The details of such teachings—who pictures whom and why—can be hard to keep straight, to remember, and to apply. Of even greater concern, though, is that the moral and practical lessons of the Bible accounts under examination may be obscured or lost in all the scrutiny of possible antitypical fulfillments. Thus, we find that our literature today focuses more on the simple, practical lessons about faith, endurance, godly devotion, and other vital qualities that we learn about from Bible accounts."

"there was Jehovah’s word for him, and it went on to say to him: “What is your business here, E·lijah?" To this (Elijah) he said: “I have been absolutely jealous for Jehovah the God of armies"- 1 Kings 19:9, 10 Reference Bible

What I found encouraging about this March Wt. is that it includes all of the main talks from the annual meeting in which

new information was introduced. So we now have it in study form, and can look forward to covering it in our meetings.

As already mentioned in this thread, I enjoyed the question from readers about types and antitypes. This basically sum-

marized the talk Bro. Splane gave at the annual meeting. I also like the sensitive article on marring only in the Lord. Espe-

cially why this is such a test in some lands. And many of the feelings of those confronted with this issue. This can be cer-

tainkly a great test of faith for some. I well remember the younger sister of a good friend of mine in a neighboring con-

gregation. She used the well worn line: " there are no brothers here I would want to be married to. " So she married out of

the truth, to her lasting hardship. I don't know if her husband ever came into the truth. So she was left to try and raise their

children in the truth the best she could. What a sad story.

Was an excellent magazine. Took all night at work to read and digest the nice spiritual food. ☺

I wouldn't speak of it as a type, but certainly there is a parallel and a lesson to be learnt. We can often find practical lessons in scriptural accounts, even if they don't have any prophetic significance.
