The children want to go to the meetings but are being stopped by a court order. Surely this can be appealed and must be against freedom of religion and choice. It surely should be overturned with prejudice.

Micah 4:5 ......"we, for our part, shall walk in the name of Jehovah our God to time indefinite, even forever."

John 15:13 "No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his life in behalf of his friends."

It's a unique situation Simon. If the children's heart is with Jehovah, there are many things they can do in support of Kingdom Interests. Jehovah’s organization have given the believing mother and children the best tools. They can have an audio /video link for the meetings ;They can informal witness;and if so, they can take the or stand on not hiring involved with false worship.

Families like that need to be in our prayers. The better judge Jehovah, got their back. ☺

What I appreciate about this is the conviction expressed by the children, although young. And it's highlighted more than once in the article. And the obvious uncomfortable position of the judge, who has the responsibility of dispensing judgement through a flawed legal system.

Ashley, I feel the same way. We must not underestimate Jehovah's power to help and support these children. If they keep feeling the way they supposedly do now they will find ways to serve Jehovah. Look how many have been in adverse situations and succeeded.

I found this story on this website called JW News.  Have no idea if this is legit or not.  Have any one of you heard or read anything from this site?

Here is the fastest story printed, comes from New Zealand Herald:

  • Judge stops children of Jehovah's Witness from going to church December 16, 2014
A judge has stopped the children of a Jehovah's Witness from going to church and attending witness meetings and allowed them to attend birthday parties and Christmas celebrations. The High Court ruling, released publicly today, comes...
  • Court bars kids from Jehovah's Witness activities December 16, 2014
Two children whose parents separated have been forbidden by the High Court to attend Jehovah's Witness meetings or church activities, in order to dilute exposure to their mother's religion.

Poor children, poor parent.  She can still inculcate the truth in their hearts.  She can read the Bible, use the videos and other programs when the children are with her.  They sound like lovely children, so my prayer for them is that the love of Jehovah grow in their hearts and that they don't give in to Satan's manipulations.

I find it funny how the fathers position or even religion is not made clear. It's only because it involves one of Jehovah's Witnesses does the media decide its newsworthy. I'm glad the kids already have a grounding in the truth.

I take no issue with he ruling. I mean yes it's sad but ultimately if the father doesn't want his children involved with the truth at all then he at least has some say. The positve thing to glean from this is that the kids will still be able to be cared for spiritually to some extent by their mother if not by their father. The children's faith will no doubt be tested but perhaps it could have a profound effect on their father? Who can say what will happen. This may yet work out like an account from the yearbook.

I feel strongly for this sister, as I have a situation where my ex became apostate 8 years ago and left me in 2008.  My daughters are 10 now.  He makes them celebrate all the holidays, has made them celebrate their birthdays for the past 5 years and attend birthday parties, has them attend several churches, and puts them with as many worldly family and ex-JW's.  He is now using apostate reasoning on them regarding various topics.  This sounds bad, but, they have been trained according to how Jehovah is instructing us to.  We must have family worship, which the mother in New Zealand can do.  We must pray together each day.  They can do informal witnessing.  She must inculcate the truth to them throughout their day (Deut. 6:6, 7)  My children must find solid answers to keep their hearts steady, so we research and give them a basis for their faith.  We create scenarios of situations and questionings they may have to deal with and make up dialogue so they can speak their faith and defend it.  We pray before they go to school, before they go to parent visitation, before they go to bed at time, before meals and every other opportunity.

My ex took me back to court 2 months ago to get 50/50 custody.  His intent is to dilute my daughters stand for the truth according to the affidavit on file.  Do I worry?  Somewhat.  If we are doing what Jehovah asks us to do, I leave it in his hands.  Both girls are unbaptized publishers, and one of them has given several talks in the last year.  Both informal witness at school and explain Kingdom truths very clearly for their age and ability.  They sing kingdom songs from their heart.  I thank Jehovah for giving us loving instructions on child-rearing and building a solid foundation with fire-resistant materials.  It will only be with Jehovah's help that I will be able to instill in them a love for Jehovah that will carry them on into the Paradise.   Tragic, yes, and yet an awesome opportunity to prove that we love Jehovah are are loyal to him.

Kimmer- like you as well as the initial story...a friend from our KH experienced the same situation with her ex husband. She did everything mentioned above and when the girl grew up, she was eventially baptized and is now a pioneer in a local foreign language congregation.

It can work out...just keep the faith and keep praying.

The one thing not mentioned that I thought was very smart....my KH friend made her daughter promise to call her if daddy "ever" tried to take her to the airport or railroad station (she even made sure the child always had enough change with her at all times]

Fortuntely the ex never tried to leave the country with the child...but I can't image the fear a mom has in that sceanario. We'll definitely keep them in our prayers.

  • 5 weeks later...

I live in California, USA. In my child custody case the judge said a child should not be given religious training until they are 18 years old. He then ruled in favor of the df mother. Many years later my son was interviewed by a court psychologist & it was determined that he was damaged goods recommending a change of custody. He later told us his mother had repeatedly molested him. The damage done is not upbuilding. Suffice it to say, I hope he truly repents & we see each other on the other side of Armageddon. I have mourned his loss & detest the satanic world that spawns the abuse of Jehovah's creations.

Take heart dear friends, "The beginning is near!"

I am so sorry Tony that you have gone through this. Keep yourself spiritually strong and Jehovah will make all things better in the New System. Jehovah knows what goes on in secret and can read the hearts of those who have been abused. Trust in Jah in all things.

Foolish father doesn't know children that we'll, does he? By taking that stand he is bringing up something that children everywhere do. Go against anything daddy says. Mom wears the pants. He "thinks" he does. LOL

We had a family in a similar situation.  Sister was (well, still is) married to unbeliever that was very opposed.  He forbade the three children to attend the meetings, go out in service, etc...  The mother complied with his wishes but still studied with the children on her own.  She really worked hard to reach her 3 kids hearts and instruct them about Jehovah.  Meanwhile, dad was taking the kids to church with him.  He was an important individual in his church.

Well, the three children put their bible training to good use.  They questioned the Sunday School teacher and basically pointed out everything wrong they were being taught.  This reached such a point that the children were banned from coming to this church or attending Sunday School.  With much shame, the father finally relented and allowed the kids to attend the Kingdom Hall.

This was about 20 years ago.  The result?  The daughter is a regular pioneer in my mother's congregation.  The youngest son went to MTS and now serves in the Spanish congregation that shares with my mother's hall.  The oldest son is happy at Bethel.  You can see him dancing at Ford Field at the 1:00 mark of the video making the rounds now.

If I can remember properly, (I'm from NZ) the children had to answer some questions and they used "my mother said this" or "do this." So they didn't express that this was their decision, but as if their mother told them too (which happens until they understand why we're there.) So it shows how important it is to teach our children. But still, the Judge was a bit harsh, but that's because here in New Zealand, most people don't understand why the heck we do this kind of work. Which raises me this, do our householders know that we do more than door-knocking??

Excellent experience Shawn. Nothing can stop a heart attuned to Jehovah’s Kingdom interests. ☺
