The President

Recommended Posts

I received this in an email today:

It takes a special kind of tree to have a nickname.

post-272-0-31488300-1421691269_thumb.jpg

Not every tree has a nickname, but 'The President' has earned it. This giant sequoia stands at 247 feet  tall, and is estimated to be over 3,200 years old. Imagine, this tree was already 1200 years old when Jesus walked the earth.

The trunk of the  president measures at 27 feet across, with 2 BILLION needles from base to top.

Because of its unbelievable size, this tree has never been photographed in its entirety. Until now. A team of National Geographic photographers have worked along with scientists to try and create the first photo that shows the president in all its glory.

hey had to climb the tree with pulleys and levers, and took thousands of photos.  Of those, they selected 126 and stitched them together, to get this incredible portrait of the President.

That is amazing!! Appropriate words fail me in describing the beauty. Nat Geo did an incredible job.

Yeah Jerry... Nat.Geo really hit it out of the ball park on this one, there was a special on these majestic beauties a few months ago...truly amazing. Cheryl... They also documented the northern most native Sequoia in Southern Oregon.   :ecstatic:

Just looking at it again and comparing the size difference between the men and the tree is humbling. Is there any other living thing on this planet that can compare to the Sequoia? I honestly don't think so.

I'm convinced we'll have these size of trees again in all types, makes me wonder how other things will grow in the new system.

I used to have a picture of our entire family at the base of this tree, but somehow I can't find it. Awesome trees. We used to take the kids camping at Sequoia National Park.

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

Amazingly awesome to think of the life of this tree!Thank God no loggers took it down--nor forest fires, nor earthquakes.  --Just a quiet life in a California forest for all these years.

We live in a rainforest and we get to see a lot of old growth trees amazing isn't it we also see a lot of areas being logged off .....there are a lot of activists ( we like to call them tree huggers) that have fought to save many beautiful areas .

Just a side point perhaps Cheryl can answer this question, it is said there are Pacific Tree Octopuses has anyone from the west ever seen one?

I heard they were extinct now because Sasquatch would eat them.

The Bigfoot hunters have finally realized that after Sasquatch ate all of the Pacific Tree Octopus, they migrated to Wyoming to hunt Jackalope.
