Is anyone here from Hood River Oregon, or near there?

Recommended Posts

My family and I are moving from the midsouth (near Memphis Tennessee) to an area with Mountains and nature.  The move is still sometime out, but I'm researching places we may visit for a look-see.

Many mountainous areas are arid and dry, which we don't prefer.   I've lived around lush greenery all my life, and it is very hard to give that up.

So two areas we are considering are the Asheville area in western North Carolina.  We have visited there several times.  We really like it.

The other area I've just discovered is Hood River Oregon, near Mount Hood.  It is a VERY interesting place.  I've seen one Kingdom-hall in a street view on Google.  I wonder if there are anymore?

We would prefer to move to an area that has a need for support in the congregation/s.  That is one reason I've ruled out a couple of other areas.

If you happen to be in, or very near Hood River Oregon, please send me a message.  It is hard to get objective feed back about a place from the internet.   We'll visit eventually, and it would be nice to know a friend there ahead of time.

Alternatively, please just share your thoughts about the area here.

Winter can and is very wintery! Except for this year, unusually warm for us here. Hood River is a beautiful place. Get to the mountain for skiing fast, Portland isn't far away, nearby Sandy, Oregon is beautiful and Mt. Batchelor is awesome for winter or summer activities. Actually you have the best of both worlds there- can have high desert or trees. If I had my choice I'd choose near Oregon City, but look at the property taxes for those areas first, some can be incredibly high.

Living in the Pacific NW is a mountainous wonder for most parts. We do have lots of wooded areas and people here love to keep it that way with responsible reforestation. Then you have a day trip to get to the oceans- Coos Bay, Tillamook (Ummm, cheese!) Cannon beach (maybe too crowded for me) Seaside (kinda too crowded for me too) Astoria (beautiful and picturesque), then in Washington state you have Long Beach (we're building our new hall RIGHT NOW!) Ocean Park. Those are on the ocean, going away from the ocean there are a plethora of small cities and towns that have much to offer. I've lived between Oregon and Washington all my life and it's beautiful. I know many in the coastal Congregations as well as some in the Portland areas.

We don't have the humidity like The Carolina's do, sometimes it can get humid but not like other states.

Plan a visit Gabriel, maybe we can arrange to help you see the area.

My family is from the Asheville area, Canton specifically. It would probably be less of a change environmentally speaking for you. It is beautiful country, not to harsh in the winter or summer. Love to visit the parkway in the fall for berries.
