Pictures of where we live

As members live in such a widely diverse array of places, I think it would be nice to see pictures of the areas in which we live.

These may be pics of anywhere in our local surrounds, local features, events, our local Kingdom Halls, even our own homes.

Family may be included incidentally in the pics (not the feature of the photos) but the photos in this thread are to principally be to show the surroundings we enjoy (or endure...) as we await the end of this system.

I'm somewhat fortunate, I feel, in that I live in farming country and dwell in a home that sits between hills bedecked with gum trees. This photo was taken over six years ago when we first decided to move here...

Being in higher country we sometimes get fogged in:

I'm not totally alone here, others make use of the 2900acres of the property:

As you head here down our very quiet road, a road which used to be the main road between Stanthorpe and Warwick, cresting the rise round the bend leading to our entry you see this across the road:

24kms away we have the Stanthorpe Kingdom Hall:

So please, those of you in such a wide variety of places, let us see what it's like in your vicinity.

Ray, this is how I think too. I love to share the things that are 'home' to me with the friends around the world. Like you, I'm not really into pic's of people but of the surroundings I see every day. I'll have to break out my camera again. I thought it might be boring to others what I see as beautiful or funny, but maybe not so.

I live here:  In the very heart of Michigan's BEAUTIFUL Upper Peninsula, surrounded by two of the Great Lakes

My Hall is in Munising, Michigan, which is over sixty miles away, roundtrip.  We are scheduled for a remodel this summer.   I think we're getting a new carport, some parking lot repairs done and a new KH sign.  Our current sign is bolted to the building.  It will be neat to have one closer to the road.    It will also be neat to not have to travel so far to the RBC project.   Our RBC is WI #2 and it will still be functioning through 2015.

Thanks.  And you are absolutely right!  Zack is a Timneh.   Got him at a garage sale for $75 and he came with a $300 cage.  (The lady was allergic to birds.  Bad for her.  Good for me...he he he   )

Great post! A good way to "invite" each other to where we live! Though where I live - Windsor, Ontario, is often referred to as "boring"...But there are some great sunsets and sunrises here!

1) Out of the door of my building going to work and catching a sunrise in March

2 ) That is my street with another sunrise (February may be?)

3) I live right at the border with the US (Detroit) and this the way to the tunnel

4) This is what I see right out of my balcony (last fall in October)

I'm glad you agree, Cheryl, and that you've got a budget to cover the film you'll use...

And from the response from others, I think this might become a popular thread. I hope so.

Doesn't Rosanne's place look attractive! I'm guessing it's a dairy farm as is seen in so much of the adjoining Wisconsin. Your dairy farms are totally unlike ours, we graze our cattle outdoor all year round, they only come into sheds for milking. They get very little in the way of silage, usually just a little when at the milking shed, perhaps with supplements, otherwise it's just nice green grass. Thanks for those great pics, Rosanne...

And Gordon, I suspect your pics were taken with a phone? A camera is always superior, but a nice place. My time in that little corner of BC last year was brilliant, mostly taken up with a drive around the southern end of Vancouver Island.

Hasina, could you e.mail slightly larger versions of your first to pics to me and I'll see if I can enhance them to be more like what you could see at the time? raybell@ramojan.com And to think I drove right past you without knowing it last year!

Jerry, how could the Google car come up your street and you keep your back turned?

I'm guessing you have nice view out the other side of your house, but will it be restricted by what appears to be a new development between you and the sea?

The view will remain, the land drops rapidly to the west.

Prior to clearing the trees there was no view.

Subdivision went bankrupt in 2008.

If you look from above (satellite view) ours is the one with all the trees on the left (west) side of the road - but the trees are no longer there, we had them cut.

 

If you look on the street view, you need to move north from where it places you (Google will not go to our actual address) to the end of the chain link fence - our driveway is just to the right of the power pole. If you continue up (north) the road and look to the left you will see my Brother's house and that house with the boards over the windows is the house I grew up in.

 

We have lived here for 55 years.

In the interim, here's a couple more of my locale.

There's a Rest Area about 3kms from home, often there's as many as 20 camps set up there, campervans, caravans, motorhomes and tents included. There's only one in this pic, but there's people there with cycles as there was some kind of cycling event on:

Sometimes it's just a spot for a middle-aged couple to stop for a cuppa to break a journey in their MGB:

One of the unique things about our little 'town' (or village...) is that we have just one operating business in the 'CBD', which used to be a thriving shopping centre of course.

The one business is an enterprise which manufactures tee shirts, promotional clothing and caps, other promotional material, produces travel magazines and the like. Because it has so much going in and out by mail it's worth their while to keep the little Post Office going despite the fact that just 135 households use its services. Among other things it probably saves them five trips a day to the next PO, about 10kms away. And their surplus shopfront space is the domain of a local craft group:

Was this trip you made in person or virtual?

It used to be S200A when we moved there and it was a State Road. Then it became 200A when the County took it over. Later, when the County started using "911" adresses, it was named NE CR 1469.

However, since most roads also have a State designation, if a State Trooper was to give you a ticket it would say 200A - A County cop would use 1469.

Since US 301 is also State Road 200, our strech of road is one of many pieces that off-shoot from 301 designated by the State as 200A

The better the weather, the more lookyloos. Seldom look up any more.

Then again, you could say you've stamped your name in posterity by still being able to bend over like that!
