jw.org banned in Russia

Such a sad, sad day for our brothers and sisters in Russia!  Everything the government does there is underhanded and with an intent to make something legal appear illegal.  The organization even cooperated with the government after the first trial and removed the literature they declared "extremist" and still not satisfied, they went to court again to have the website banned without notifying the organization!

We all must pray very hard for our family in Russia (especially those with special needs who depended on this website for their spiritual nourishment!) that is decision will somehow be over ruled.  They are looking worse than any other nation in the world right now for what they are doing.  They are just being bullies and have adopted a "it's my way or the highway" attitude about everything.

Don't live for the moment - live for the future! :D

Here is an interesting article from The Time of Moscow!  It is a very positive article on JWs and perhaps a landmark case against Russia!  But it also noted that it took Moscow 5 years to recognize JWs after the ECHR ruled against it.

Zeph 3:17 Jehovah your God is in the midst of you. As a mighty One, he will save. He will exult over you with rejoicing. He will become silent in his love. He will be joyful over you with happy cries....... Love it....a beautiful word picture.

Here is a question: given that JWtalk is not a JW.org website. I wonder if there might be a risk at JWs accessing this website from Russia.

I wondered the same thing. It seems that if anyone from Russia is still accessing this forum they would still need to be very careful what they say.

CAUTION: The comments above may contain personal opinion, speculation, inaccurate information, sarcasm, wit, satire or humor, let the reader use discernment...:D

Hhmmm. I'm not sure why, but when I click on the link above I get Amazon.com and a book about C.T. Russell. Here is the real link to the Moscow Times.

...and we'll make sure they are notified before the judgment is made.

Agreed. They and all nations have been since 1914. There are more with us than against us.

"there was Jehovah’s word for him, and it went on to say to him: “What is your business here, E·lijah?" To this (Elijah) he said: “I have been absolutely jealous for Jehovah the God of armies"- 1 Kings 19:9, 10 Reference Bible

Let's ask Jehovah to help them stay in touch, via the Internet. Such a blessing to have that venue.

I will pray for the friends in Russia - I always remember an older brother stating about persecution in that country, the brotherhood flourished when Under total ban, they flourished when sent to Siberia they survived the concentration camps and he asked "What else can they do to us?'  Jehovah will give them the strength and give the slave the wisdom how to handle this.  Jesus said not ONE of his sheep will go missing - humble honest hearted Russian will continue to come into the truth, even if the old iron curtain come crashing back down.

We must not be discouraged, it is a war and we are on the winning side!

I found a few articles that might be of interest:

http://berkleycenter.georgetown.edu/essays/religious-freedom-in-russia

the Russian government has demonstrated a measure of favoritism towards the Russian Orthodox Church.

At the national and local levels, the Russian Orthodox Church enjoys a privileged relationship with government officials. Smaller and more recent religious groups, such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, often face discrimination by local and national authorities, including burdensome registration requirements, denial of building permits, and difficulties in obtaining visas.

Jehovah's Witnesses face police brutality        http://www2.stetson.edu/~psteeves/relnews/150714a.html

A minister of the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Cherkessk (Karachaevo-Cherkesiia, RF), 53-year-old Vladimir Mirzoian, was subjected to beatings and severe psychological pressure on the part of policemen in a local police department

The cause of these actions was the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with 210 seats that was built by the hands of believers of Cherkessk in 2000. All these years, the hall, located at 139 Fabrichnaia Street, has been actively used by congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses. However the building began interfering with the plans for building a shopping mall, in connection with which the believers received proposals to give up the building and a part of adjoining property (860 sq.m.). At the present time, the local prosecutor's office, with the support of police personnel, is trying to confiscate the hall because of alleged "extremist activity" of believers. To do this, Jehovah's Witnesses' publications that had previously been entered into the federal list of extremist materials were planted in the hall and then "discovered."

Jehovah's Witness given harsh prison term

58-YEAR OLD JEHOVAH'S WITNESS ARRESTED IN COURTROOM FOR DISTRIBUTING RELIGIOUS LITERATURE

The believer Vladimir Eltavsky learned that an administrative case against him was being considered in court less than an hour before the hearing, from the bailiff who arrived at his house in order to take him by force to the court.

Judge Mosypan ignored the fact that the term for holding one administratively accountable had elapsed in June. In addition, in violation of fundamental human rights, Judge Mosypan refused Eltavsky the right to qualified legal help (article 48 of the constitution of the RF) and also the right to become acquainted with documents and materials immediately affecting his rights and liberties (article 24 of the constitution of the RF).
