We have not had any reasonable amount of rain since march. As of 2 days ago we've had 3.7 MILLION acres "plus" burned in the Northwestern US, in 5 states.  Now here is a message from the National Weather Service, a storm is approaching, significant enough to perhaps give some relief to the MANY who are fighting fires, including all those from Australia and NZ who've come to help.

They're saying so Bobby, It's coming from the SW. Have had dry weather for so long am used to leaving stuff outside. Had to get moving today to get everything buttoned down for the wind and rain coming tomorrow afternoon. Took most of the day, am so tired. Really hope the rain comes through. Last time they said this it didn't happen for us, did in Seattle and Portland but not here on the coast. Weird.

We got some rain today but not as much as they were saying we would get. The fires are horrific. There is so many from California to Alaska and to the East into Idaho and Montana. A week ago it was 3.7 million, wonder what it is now. Just watched a blurb on the news about Lake Chelan, by Wenatchee, WA. It's so sad there, so many have lost their houses. And the amount of animals lost, I cannot bear to think of it.

Was at work at 6 this morning and I'll tell ya, I thought we were in a hurricane. The trees were slapping against the building, which was groaning. Then I went across to Oregon to work. I have a toneau, hard cap, on the back of my truck. It was blowing so hard I couldn't get it open. And throwing trash away was a joke, the wind was so bad It tore it out of my hands.

Then I looked across the street, where Bornsteins Seafoods  is located. The HUGE seafood totes were being picked up like lego's and being thrown at the semi's parked there. It was actually funny if it wasn't so serious. Visualize this: The totes, stacked 4 high were being lifted and tossed, a little fork lift came buzzing around the corner (Bzzzzzz) at the same time a small shed took flight and crashed against another truck parked there, the little fork lift was buzzing over to move it back upright when a HUGE stack of pallets started catching flight and blowing all over, (Bzzzzz) goes the little forklift to rescue everything! It was an effort in futility. It was so funny to watch this poor little guy on his forklift, trying so hard, and it was all being undone as he tried to fix it.

When I got home I saw my garden. This wind came from the South, then it turned around and came back from the North. All my garden is flat. Tomatoes all on the ground. I hope I can put some of them upright. The brussel sprouts were were all pushed over as well as the artichokes. Mom-in-Law's corn is all on the ground, I hope to salvage some of that. What a terrible time to have a wind like this.

  • 3 weeks later...

California is on fire again. A fire started about 60 miles from us on Saturday afternoon. It's burned 61,000 acres and is only 5% contained. We smelled smoke Saturday night and our car was covered with ash on Sunday.
