Philedelphia is mixed up in the hype of conspiracy theories to do with the popes visti to US this month and other religious hysteria - I wouldn't give that book any more attention than it deserves.

Well. I agree, I'm not interested in the book or what it has to say, but what is interesting is the reaction statements from some of the residents.

It confirms that there are those conscience of their spiritual need... Those still looking for answers to life's Big Questions...those that still want and need the truth.

It makes me feel good about leaving tracts and magazines at "not-at-homes"...because sometimes someone is actually looking for truth, for wisdom for Jehovah.

Thought this was interesting. Let's hope no one mistakes it for our literature.

We made some phone calls to find out about the mystery book.  It was sent by Remnant Publications which is a non for profit Christian ministry. The CEO says they paid the U.S. Postal Service to send out mass numbers of the book, the CEO says, just like any mass mailing including junk mail.  The company says the original book was written in the 1850's by a woman named Ellen White who died in 1915.  Several versions of the book have come out since then.

I think it is interesting that people are doing this. I wonder if it dilutes the work that we are doing? If all religions were going door-to-door, how would Jehovah's people stand out? Would people get so acclimated to receiving religious literature that they will ignore it all? If this is from Satan, it will backfire just like everything else he has done.

They're specifically not going door-to-door, they're doing a one-time mass mailing thinking that they can accomplish the same results.

The whole situation reminds me of ones who brag about "helping the poor" because they once sent a whole dollar to a charity in the mid 1990s, it's all about the appearance, not the results.

They're specifically not going door-to-door,

That was a rhetorical question to illustrate my point about their activity possibly diluting our activity by imitation. Obviously we don't do mass mailing but the perception may be the same. I'm sorry I wasn't clear in my comment.

Yes.  :D  And we offer ourselves willingly in service to Jehovah!

Almighty God's servants like global busy ants!!! everywhere!!!

lot's of legwork and loving it!

Clearly from that link again, some people truly are thirsting!

I intend to keep that in mind going door to door!  At times I feel a little

discourage because of the responses, but then there is that one door...

There was a time or perhaps in some cities when Seventh Day Adventists would go from house to house.  But this is not a regular activity of theirs, even the Mormons who are reportedly slowing down that part of their activities are more apparent than the work of the SDAs.

It looks like they are using the mail to do their preaching for them.

I read a book years ago, about 2010, that was titled, "The Coming Great Controversy. It was written by Ellen G. White. I actually read the book from cover to cover. I was not impressed. It was actually well-written but it was not convincing. She had one chapter on the Waldenses and claimed that they were hated by Catholics because they kept what she called the true sabbath. Every other source I have read says that the Waldenses were hated by Catholics because of their preaching work.

The teaching at that time was that the true church had to have a living prophet. And Ellen White was said to be that prophet. Now the SDA religion says they do not need a living prophet because they have the writings of Ellen White.
