Nome, Alaska

Quote

Located on the edge of the Bering Sea on the southwest side of the Seward Peninsula, Nome is a vital hub for Northwest Alaska. The Three Lucky Swedes discovered placer gold in Anvil Creek in 1898…the rush was on! In 1899 the population of Nome swelled from a handful to 28,000.  Today our population is 3,500 and there is still some gold mining happening.

Valley of Jehoshaphat

This is the name given in modern times to the valley between Jerusalem and the mount of Olives, and the Kidron flows through it. Here Jehoshaphat overthrew the confederated enemies of Israel (Psalms 83:6-8); and in this valley also God was to overthrow the Tyrians, Zidonians, etc. (Joel 3:4, 19), with an utter overthrow. This has been fulfilled; but Joel speaks of the final conflict, when God would destroy all Jerusalem's enemies, of whom Tyre and Zidon, etc., were types. The “valley of Jehoshaphat” may therefore be simply regarded as a general term for the theatre of God’s final judgments on the enemies of Israel.

This valley has from ancient times been used by the Jews as a burial-ground. It is all over paved with flat stones as tombstones, bearing on them Hebrew inscriptions.

Whakawerawera ... A tourist thermal area on the fringes of Rotorua New Zealand. Back when Brother Knorr  came to NZ, a sister, Bim Tuhakarina was working as a guide there she showed him around the area.

Xochimilco, Mexico

(Say Zo – chee – milko)

Xochimilco is one of the 16 mayoralities (Spanish: alcaldías) or boroughs within Mexico City. Xochimilco is to the south of Mexico City, and gives a glimpse at the effects of rushed urbanization over the years. It's a great place for tourists - not only to ride the canals, but to explore a smaller village outside Mexico City.

What makes Xochimilco especially noteworthy today is the preservation of the canals and artificial islands that provided transportation and irrigation during Aztec times. At one point these waterways were spread throughout the Valley of Mexico, but from the time of the Spanish onwards the canals have been drained, paved over, etc.

You can bring your own food and drinks for a picnic lunch on the larger boats, as they have a long table down the middle. As you travel down the canals, music boats float by with bands, mariachi trios, and marimba players, and for a fee you can have them float along beside you and play the songs that you request. As you travel you will see city life, houses ranging from run-down to amazing villas, restaurants, and greenhouses where flowers and plants are grown. Further beyond the city canals there is a wildlife preserve in which the original character of the chinampas (Aztec-era "floating gardens") may be seen.

Yemen is one of the arab countries in the middle east. Despite what many americans think, there is much more to the middle east than just turbans, extreme islam, and oil. Abraham's bosom -

Figurative. The expression occurs in Luke 16:22,23, in the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus, to denote the place of repose to which Lazarus was carried after his death. The figure is suggested by the practice of the guest at a feast reclining on the breast of his neighbor. Thus, John leaned on the breast of Jesus at supper (John 21:20).
