An old recording I got from somewhere of the NY Phil (Bramwell Tovey cond.) playing Carnival Of The Animals by Saint-Saens (with wonderful introductory poems by Ogden Nash). They also play Rossini: Overture to The Barber Of Seville, Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol, Ravel's Bolero and encore with Tahiti Trot by Shostakovich.

It's last thing at night and to relax we listen to 'Smooth Classics' on Classic FM and we have just heard Eric Satie's Gymnopedie No.1 on guitar followed by Scene unseen by John Barry (who did the Bond themes and other film music)

John Barry did a great job on the Dances With Wolves theme - LOVE that track

Tonight it will be the UK Premiere of Philip Glass' opera "The Perfect American" at English National Opera.

My wife and I are really looking forward to this. An opera about Walt Disney - hmm.

Just back from the opera!  Amazing piece.  Projections on screens and curtains along with wonderful music and singing.  Philip Glass was there in person too, and took a bow with the cast.

It was moving, and extremely interesting to see the story of the last few months of Walt Disney's life.  He was portrayed as somewhat racist (having a discussion with Abraham Lincoln and disagreeing with the abolition of slavery). He also didn't agree with the civil rights movement!  Against unions and 'commies' - illustrated by an employee who had been fired and who wanted recognition for the work he had done as an animator at Disney's studio.

All in all and excellent performance of a very interesting story.  The dvd is out in September - I must remember to get it.
