  1. We had some friends in my last congregation with the last name of "Walker". When we found out they were expecting a boy, we tried to get them to name him "Luke Sky" as the first and middle names, but they wouldn't go for it! "Luke Sky Walker" would have been so cool!

  4. Since our last name is More, a brother in our congregation said that we should name our firstborn "Minnie" and then when number 2 came along he said he should be "Lot" and when the third one came, I told the brother that I was naming this one and it's name was "No"! Well, needless to say that was not the names they ended up with!!

  6. Translation & Printed story: Peace and Security in Central Africa: now a priority for the UN (main title) The total absence of the rule of law in the Central African Republic since the takeover by Seleka last March, is reacted the Security Council of the UN will meet next Wednesday. The purpose of the Council is to review the situation to decide on possible sanctions against the former rebel coalition in power. Restore peace and security in the country is, now, a priority for the World Organization, through its Secretary-General calls on the Council to "consider appropriate options, (...), to ensure that there is no impunity for those responsible for gross violations of human rights. " According to official sources, more than one and a half million people live in hunger. For example, twelve thousand children suffer from acute malnutrition, unaware that hundreds of thousands of Central Africans displaced within the borders of the country, are in urgent need of assistance, whether food or safe. In addition, according to the same source, security is staggering: people are falling prey to looting, rapes, assaults, abductions and summary executions. Impunity is thus growing as those responsible for the violence committed freely without any constraint. Clearly, this is a collapse of the state law, against which the government currently in power, have expressed their inability to defeat. Anyway, in this chaotic environment experienced by the CAR, an effective UN action is urgent wants unquestionably better, it is necessary to end the suffering.

  7. Don't undertand the details or contents of this article since it is in French. But, for some time now, France has been urging the United Nations to become the center of global goverence. She has been urging this since 2009 at the International G8 meetings. France trusts the U.N. and is the second largest doner second to the U.S ! France, as one of the original U.N. members (as are the United States, Great Britain, Russia and China), is also a member of the U.N. Security Council. The Security Council is the most powerful organization in the World! In the area of peace and security, France plays a MAJOR key role in terms of disarmament. France's permanent goal is to make the U.N. a Global Governing Body. While the United Nations started in 1945 as nothing more than an advisory board to member nations, all that is changing and fast. . . .

  9. I can understand both sides - giving confidential information away to the authorities and not giving it away. As we do NOT know if they called the authorities the moment they found out, but did so anonymously. We can't say - they did NOTHING. They even informed the congregation to be on the look out - that's good too. As to testifying in a court of law as to what was said in a judicial hearing - I totally understand getting a legal opinion on this FIRST. Everyone is sue happy. If you give away confidential information - or information that is assumed as confidential - you get sued. If you don't give it away you get sued. One just needs to know the correct legal position to take. That articles says they had legal counsel. I am sure they followed it. It is clear they followed the spiritiual counsel - and this person is "no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses." I am also happy that they did not "impeded" the investigation in ANY way. The investigation was able to proceed without the elders telling people not to say anything. For all we know - they encouraged the young person to go to the authorities. This story just seems be lacking a BUNCH of information. And as the elders aren't talking to the press - rightfully so - we won't have the whole story. As there is no new information that can be brought out - I am closing this thread.

  11. Wednesday, August 14 Be courageous and strong and act. Do not be afraid nor be terrified, for Jehovah God, my God, is with you.—1 Chron. 28:20. In the 11th century B.C.E., King David said those words to his son Solomon. Solomon acted courageously and built the splendid temple of Jehovah in Jerusalem. In the tenth century B.C.E., the courageous words of an Israelite girl proved to be a blessing for a leper. She had been captured by a marauding band and became a servant of the leprous Syrian army chief Naaman. Having learned about miracles that Jehovah performed through Elisha, she told Naaman’s wife that if her husband would go to Israel, God’s prophet would cure him. Naaman did go to Israel, was miraculously healed, and became a worshipper of Jehovah. (2 Ki. 5:1-3, 10-17) If you are a young person who loves God as that girl did, he can give you courage to witness to teachers, fellow students, and others.w12 2/15 2:10, 11 http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2013/8/14

  13. saw this on the news this morning. Creepy. not the 1st time this type of hacking has been reported... perhaps parents will think twice on letting electronics babysit their kids and take a more hands-on approach, this poor baby girl is deaf. She needs all the caring love by means of physical interaction she can get

  14. Talk about a lot to live up to... it would have been worse, they could have given him a first name The and Messsiah as his second name... still people call their kids "Prince" (no disrespect to our brother) or "Queenie", Sarah means "Princess" and I'm sure there's some unfortunate somewhere called "King" (not Elvis, just King as a first name). Muslims call their children Mohammed so maybe for them it's a sign of respect... I Wonder if anyone has tried to name their child "Jehovah" and I would genuinely fear for them if they did ... Anyone calling their child "Allah" probably wouldn't live to tell the tale.

  15. Just VERY fortunate! If you are pregnant there is often pica. which is weird food/dirt/earth/sand craving. Liver or liverwurst and or chewing ice - needs IRON. Clay or earth (dirt) - need minerals & basic nutrients from the earth. I craved TURKEY - all the time. And ate liverwurst (Blech... now!). Food combos are much different. It is what you think of in your mind. Sometimes you can already taste it before you eat it. Here is my ooohhhhhs for combo foods. Chocolate with Dr. Pepper. It can be a candy bar with the drink or the soda with chocolate ice cream float. The combo is perfect! Wendy's french fires dipped in the Frosty. YUM! Pretzels in chocolate sauce/fudge. Red velvet cake in coffee ice cream! OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mix that up and give it to me. NOW!

  17. Tuesday, August 13 To obey is better than a sacrifice.—1 Sam. 15:22. In order to be accepted by Jehovah, the sacrifices prescribed by the Mosaic Law had to be offered with the right spirit and heart condition. The Bible, however, contains cautionary examples of sacrifices that were not acceptable to God. Consider the case of King Saul. The prophet Samuel told Saul that the time had come for Jehovah to execute judgment on the Amalekites. Saul therefore was to exterminate this enemy nation along with its livestock. After his victory, however, Saul allowed his soldiers to preserve alive Agag, the king of the Amalekites. Saul also spared the best of their livestock as something that could be sacrificed to Jehovah. (1 Sam. 15:2, 3, 21) What was Jehovah’s reaction? He rejected Saul for his disobedience. (1 Sam. 15:22, 23) What do we learn from this? That to be acceptable to God, a sacrifice must be accompanied by obedience to his commands. w12 1/15 3:13, 14 http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/dt/r1/lp-e/2013/8/13

  19. Just a note about this story after doing a little research. A judge CANNOT change just ANY baby's name. BUT - these "parents" are fighting each other in court about the baby's LAST name - as in who gets custody. In the process, the judge called into question the baby's FIRST name and has ordered it changed. Can you imagine naming your baby Messiah? Why not name him Lord, God or Allah and see how well that goes over when he goes to school. Honestly, I wonder what some "parents" are thinking when they name their children Clearly it is NOT what is in the best interests of the child!!!!

  21. My Mom----She was a lot like Granny Clampett I've been feeling a little under the weather latlely-a mild sore throat and the beginnings of a fever blister. Times like this makes me miss my Mom. I guess we are never to old to miss our mothers. My mom was a wonderful mother except for the minor flaw that she thought she was a doctor. She believed she was licensed physician with a medical degree from the University of "I Think All Doctors are a Bunch of Quacks". My Mom was a big fan of Home Remedies and she thought there was nothing a good old fashioned enema wouldn't cure. I'm not kidding. I remember when i was quite small taking a bath and wondering why there was always a pink bag with a white water hose attached to it hanging, at the ready, on the back of the shower door. I was her (guinea pig) last child at home and thus her last (victim) patient so I had to endure many different trials and errors. If you ever forgot and complained of a sore throat she would get out the kosher salt and a glass of hot water and make a salt water gargle that you had to do religiously every 2 hrs. If you were still complaining the next day you had to have your throat painted with a cotton wrapped tongue depressor soaked in methalaide. If you still had not learned to keep your mouth shut and your complaints to yourself you were put to bed with Vicks a vapor Rub and a hot compression on your chest. Along with this came a big spoonful of the Vicks Vapor Rub itself then plenty of water to wash it down. My mother prescribed to the line of reasoning that the level of pain was directly proportional to the level of cure. If it didn't hurt, it didn't heal. Back in the early days of My mothers medical residency, also known as my childhood I would cry and ask for the orange flavored baby ASA and the grape tasting cough syrup that my friends mothers would give them. No how, no way was she going to waste her money on candy flavored crap that was disguised as medicine and who's only purpose was to make money for pharmaceutical companies. She also seemed to be a fan of cod liver oil. Sometimes she would let me have a say in my medical care-castor oil or the trusted pink bag. Was that really a choice? I guess her home treatments worked-by and large because I was usually very healthy. That, or I just learned to keep my mouth shut. But, I can't wait to see my Mom again. I'm going to greet her into the paradise with a little pink rubber bag and a big old grin from ear to ear! Here Mom, this is good for whatever ails ya! I

  22. And that means so much when you are young. All young women (and men) should have mothers like this.

  23. Love it Leslie! Haha! Our moms must have been in the same school.... I too had to gargle with the salt water. Sore throats and swollen glands were treated with hot wet towels (as hot as you could stand it) pressed against your throat and glands (switching to new hot towels as quick as possible so you didn't cool down in between). Then, a freezing cold wet sheet rag was wrapped around your throat covered by a cotton sock (safety pinned) around your neck. You had to sleep all night with it on and in the morning the rag sheeting would be dry - supposed to draw the poison out of your tonsils. I remember the shock of the cold rag and being terrified the safety pin would stab me during the night! Also she made the most horrible cough syrup - boiled onions blended with lemon (?) I think - horrible stuff to swallow but you got a candy as a reward to kill the burn and taste! Soaking our feet in hot mustard baths and then wearing warm socks to bed. At least our moms really cared and put a lot of efforts into their cures!

  25. She also had me drink a BOTTLE of castor oil mixed with root beer when I was 2 weeks overdue with my daughter! Then they took me over a extremely hilly road locally known as 'Doddie's Dumps' in an effort to make me go into labor! I was so stupid all I said was 'great! Let's hurry and go to the store and get it!" It did nothing for me,except give me major gas pains and nausea. Five days later I had Nicki. She was truly overdue. She had super long fingernails and the cheeses stuff that is suppose to be covering the baby was not there. She was a beauty!
