    Mandela's first wife

Based in South Africa, I have knowledge of the newspaper reports of the Mandela family. All the above is true. There are a few tit bits here and there, that I heard from traveling overseers over the years. One was at his 1st wife's funeral. He was there with his then wife Winnie. It was quite a thing, that the president of the country could not speak at his ex wife's funeral, which was obviously held by the local witnesses. Winnie is reported to have commented that it was the most dignified funeral she ever attended. Also there are stories around that Evelyn got Nelson to pay for the chairs in a new Kingdom Hall where she was living at the time. It is interesting that from the early 1960, even during our apartheid regimes, when the young brothers were imprisoned, and since 1994, when the 1st free elections took place in South Africa there has always been someone high in government, who had family members who were witnesses. As you may or may not know, the South African branch, for years had the largest translation department. Not sure if it is still, but we now produce literature for about 70% of Africa. The trucks that go up into North Africa, have a round trip of about 3 weeks. The branch works a 2 sometimes 3 shift rota to keep up. The Governing Body has now approved another high speed press for SA. The local branch ships 1.2 million items of literature per day. { as per a branch member at our last convention] It makes me wonder if Jehovah had some hand in there always being relatives of officials in the truth. Most of Africa is so unstable, that one wonders where else but SA could the base have been for Africa. Just as the US is the best base for World headquarters. Sorry all. I ramble on a bit. Wife not well, and bed time for me. Big day tomorrow. Field service, and then some Theocratic . meetings before our Public meeting and W study at 4 pm. We have it late because summer temperatures where I am, climb to over 40/ 45 deg. Celsius, in the sun.

    Poem about Jesus

IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR HOUSE IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR OWN HOUSE TO SPEND A DAY OR TWO IF HE CAME UNEXPECTEDLY, I WONDER WHAT YOU’D DO I KNOW YOU’D GIVE YOUR NICEST ROOM TO SUCH AN HONOURED GUEST AND ALL THE FOOD THAT YOU WOULD SERVE, WOULD BE THE VERY BEST AND YOU’D KEEP ASSURING HIM, YOU’RE GLAD TO HAVE HIM THERE THAT SERVING HIM IN YOUR OWN HOUSE, IS JOY BEYOND COMPARE BUT, WHEN YOU SAW HIM COMING, WOULD YOU MEET HIM AT THE DOOR WITH ARMS OUTSTRETCHED, IN WELCOME TO YOUR HEAVENLY VISITOR OR WOULD YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES, BEFORE YOU LET HIM IN OR HIDE SOME MAGAZINES, AND PUT THE BIBLE WHERE THEY’D BEEN WOULD YOU TURN OF THE RADIO, AND HOPE HE HADN’T HEARD AND WOULD YOU WISH YOU HADN’T SAID, THAT LAST LOAD HASTY WORD WOULD YOU HIDE YOUR MUSIC TAPES, AND PUT SOME SONG BOOKS OUT WOULD YOU LET HIM WALK RIGHT IN, OR WOULD YOU RUSH ABOUT AND I WONDER, IF THE SAVIOUR SPENT A DAY OR TWO WITH YOU WOULD YOU GO ON DOING THE THINGS YOU ALWAYS DO WOULD YOU GO ON SAYING THE THINGS YOU ALWAYS SAY AND WOULD YOUR LIFE CONTINUE, AS IT DOES FROM DAY TO DAY WOULD YOUR DAILY CONVERSATION, KEEP UP IT’S USUAL PACE AND WOULD YOU FIND IT HARD EACH MEAL, TO SAY A TABLE GRACE WOULD YOU SING THE SONGS YOU SING, AND READ THE BOOKS YOU ALWAYS READ AND LET HIM KNOW THE THINGS ON WHICH YOUR MIND AND SPIRIT FEED WOULD YOU TAKE JESUS WITH YOU, EVERY WHERE YOU PLANNED TO GO OR WOULD YOU MAYBE CHANGE YOUR PLANS, FOR JUST A DAY OR SO WOULD YOU BE GLAD TO HAVE HIM MEET YOUR VERY CLOSEST FRIEND OR WOULD YOU HOPE THEY’D STAY AWAY, UNTIL HIS VISIT ENDS WOULD YOU BE GLAD TO HAVE HIM STAY, FORE EVER ON AND ON OR WOULD YOU SIGH WITH GREAT RELIEF, WHEN HE AT LAST WAS GONE IT MIGHT BE INTERESTING TO KNOW THE THINGS THAT YOU WOULD DO IF JESUS CHRIST IN PERSON, CAME TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH YOU

  4. I got this email from a sister who runs a site for sisters. It is timely for all of us. Apostates will try anything to try and ensnare us. Dear Sisters, Some of you may be aware that there is a JW.org on Facebook and think this is from the Faithful Slave because it looks identical to the Society's site on the internet. Well, NOT SO! I became suspicious because the Faithful Slave has never used Facebook before. So Today Dec 6, 2013, I called the Legal Department at Patterson New York and was told this is a worldly site NOT APPROVED by the Faithful Slave and the Faithful Slave is working hard at having it removed as they are aware of how easy apostates could use it to slip in their teachings. I told them about my small group for sisters with depression and they asked me to please warn you and any others to stay away from that site on Facebook.

  5. As of January 2013, The Watchtower magazine had been published in Greenlandic for 40 years. Greenlandic is an Inuit language spoken by just 57,000 people. There are only about 150 of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Greenland, but the Greenlandic Watchtower has a circulation of 2,300. This means that most of the readers of Napasuliaq Alapernaarsuiffik, the Greenlandic name of the magazine, are non-Witnesses. In a television interview, the overseer of the translation office in the town of Nuuk explained: “Many Greenlanders are very interested in the Bible, and that is why they read Napasuliaq Alapernaarsuiffik.” When the interviewer asked one of the native Greenlandic translators what she liked about the magazine, she replied: “I have personally benefited from reading the magazine. It showed me, for example, how to live a good healthy life. I used to smoke a lot, even though I knew how unhealthful it was. But the Bible tells us that if we want to live a healthy life, we need to keep our body clean.” The broadcast also mentioned that Jehovah’s Witnesses have been active in Greenland since the mid-1950’s and have published books and brochures in Greenlandic. The translation is done by volunteers, both Danish and Greenlandic, and their goal has always been to make the Greenlandic translation sound both natural and original. A longtime Witness in Greenland said: “For 25 years I have witnessed among the Greenlandic people and have seen the value of having our literature in their language. In some of the remote settlements, which can only be reached by boat a few months out of the year, there are people who love to read our magazines, so in between our rare visits, we regularly send them letters and literature.” Since January 2013, the Greenlandic Watchtower has been published with a regular study edition and a public edition. These editions can also be read and downloaded on the “Publications” tab of jw.org by choosing the language name Greenlandic and clicking “Search.

  10. Nothing on the internet is 100% safe. Even us here at JWTalk have the occasional baddie that gets past our registration hurdles. We catch a good portion of them after the fact, but no doubt there are lurkers here making an occasional comment now and again. But we appreciate all your help in keeping things as neat and tidy as a rather publicly exposed JW forum can be, reporting posts and private messages when they raise an eyebrow. We really do think of our forum here as a team effort, a community moderated environment. The moderator team thanks all of you.

    Oklahoma shaking?

No . Heard about it within a few minutes but did not detect it. Ater living in LA and experiencing the Northride EQ it would have to be fairly significant to catch my attention. We managed two very nice condo complexes on Riverside drive in Sherman Oaks (13141 and 13205 Riverside Dr) and our neighbors bathtub and shower came through our dining room wall shoving our buffet and hutch across the room and up against our kitchen bar. That got my attention

  14. I "joined" a group on FB---yes, I admit it! The few comments that I saw were really upbuilding. Then, they "allowed" someone to join who was not a witness. You could tell by his initial post--a seemingly-innocent comment about Brother Russell. After a few real brothers and sisters tried to steer him back to what is important, it was easy to see he was not interested in hearing anything other than his own voice. I blocked that group--had to! I feel so free on this site....I know that 99.9% of you love Jehovah and his organization as I do---and it is so refreshing! Joining this forum site is one of the better decisions I have ever made. Thanks to all of you.

  15. Ever pick up a magazine in the store and wonder, "Hmmm, is this another magazine from the Watchtower?" or have you seen a handbill/ad under your windshield wiper when you came back from a store and thought, "Oh, I guess the Brothers must have been working the parking lot." Most likely, NO! We all know that our magazines are NOT sold in stores and, hopefully, we do NOT put them under windshield wipers of parked cars - the same way - we all know that jw.org is the official website - there are NO other sites that are official any more than another magazine that is official.

    Warning, JW.ORG on Facebook

Like a lot of you, I avoid Facebook... for the most part. Several years ago, I received an email from my cousin, sent to me through Facebook, inviting me to be her "friend." I thought that was strange. She didn't invite me to be her "cousin," she only invited me as a "friend." Well, I didn't have a Facebook page in those days, so I couldn't even look at her page. She's not in the truth, but I was curious about this "face book" thing and what she had on her page. So I created a Facebook account, just to see what it was about, and what one might be able to do with it. I tried it out for about 20 minutes, long enough to see my cousin's page, saw no use to it, and deleted it. Later though, I saw everyone was going Facebook! And if I wanted to see something on their Facebook page, I had to have an account. So I created one again, which I still have. Don't try to find it though, you won't be able to. It's not in my real name, there is virtually nothing on it, and I have all the privacy settings up as high as they go! The only reason for the existence of that page is so I can see other Facebook pages. End of story.

  32. One would think, with all the emphasis on our official JW.org site, that seeing a social networking page claiming to be official and having the smarts enough to know better would be a no brainer for all our brothers and sisters. It really goes to show how much of a grasp on people sites like Facebook have. There are some who never go anywhere else on the internet. They live as if Facebook WAS the internet.

  33. I think Evelyn witness to him while in prison. If not, he heard Jehovah's name. When the resurecttion comes he will have to recongnized the Jehovah has the right to rule. And when his son arrives at the end of the GT, he is REALLY going to change the world.

  34. It is possible for someone to set up a Facebook page and then have it connected to an RSS feed. As soon as a new jw.org article appears, it shows up as a post on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, or anywhere else. We even did it here for a short while. However, on Facebook it would be connected to an app that is making the post on the pages behalf. Either way, use extreme caution. The owner of the site could have good intentions now, and then can turn to the dark side. We've seen it happen with other forums like this one in the past.

There was a ruler who was looking for a new carriage driver. He had his people search the land and they brought the three most qualified drivers before him. He had them brought to a high cliff with a sharp drop-off. He then proceed to ask them how close to the edge they could get with a carriage drawn by two of the best horses in the kingdom. The first one said, "I can come within 10' of the edge while driving the carriage at high speed." The second one boasted, "I can come within 5' of the edge with the horses at a full gallop and the carriage fully loaded!" The third one exclaimed, "Are you kidding? I am not going anywhere near the edge of that cliff - especially with horses, a carriage and you in the carriage!!" Guess who got the job ... The idea being, we do not want to see how "close" we can come to the world - we want to avoid it as far as we can.

Good illustration about stumbling. A brother here used to give an illustration from the other side of stumbling ... He said supposed you were walking outside and someone, perhaps your brother, came up and put something in your way and you trip over it and fall - you stumbled - Would you just lay there and say "I'm Stumbled!" ... When someone comes along to help you up would you say, "Leave me alone, I'm Stumbled!" Would you just lay there when it rains or an alligator comes along to eat you ... because your stumbled? Of course not! Likewise, if you stumble spiritually, accept the help, get up and move on. I have always remembered his illustration.

  46. Is this the illustration, Suezane? I like to include it in sympathy cards for the friends.... Journey Try to imagine that all of us in Jehovah’s organization are sticking to it and doing what we are supposed to be doing, and giving our best to Jehovah however much that may be. It’s like we are all riding along in a train together into the new system. As we ride along, the journey becomes very tiring for some and so every so often some of them nod off to sleep. When this happens, the others on the train pick them up and carry them back to the sleeper cars and leave them there to rest until we reach our destination. So it is with the ones we have lost in death. They are right there in Jehovah’s memory, so when we reach the station all we will do is walk back to the sleeper cars and tell them, “Here we are! You can get up now!”

  47. My favorite illustration was told to me by a sister before I was was baptised during one of my studies. My mom died way back in 1995 from epilepsy, and my uncle the year I was studying from cancer, 2009. When you're an atheist, there's no hope and the pain of loss wears down with time but doesn't go away. So we were in that part of the first book, and this sister said, "It's like we're on a train, and we're all up front with everyone else we know, and some we don't know, and everyone we love that isn't there are in the back part of the train where the bedrooms are, and they're sleeping now, and will wake up when the train comes to a stop." I'll tell you what, I haven't felt the hit of loss since she said that. If I cry now, which is rare, it's because I'm daydreaming about the resurrection!
