  5. This experience was given by brother Splane of the Governing Body at an assembly in Ouhu some years ago. In an eastern European country in 1989 there was a huge 8.9 earthquake that killed 30,000 people in 4 minutes. It happened in the morning and a man had just returned from taking his small son to school. After seeing that his wife was alright, he went straight back to the school to find his son. When he got there he found it flattened, just rubble. He stood there devastated. Then he remembered a promise he had made to his son some time back. He had told him that as long as there was life and breath in his body, he would be there for him. So with that promise in his mind, he went around to the northeast side of rubble where his son's classroom had been and started digging through the debris. Soon a neighbor came out and told him there was nothing he could his son was dead, the man did not stop digging, he just asked " Are you going to help me now?" Later the firechief came by and told him to stop digging, that no one was alive and he was putting himself in danger. Again, the father simply asked " Are you going to help me now?" After many more hours of digging the chief of police came and told him he was putting other people in danger, ordering him to go home and leave it to the professionals. The man again said nothing but" Are you going to help me now?" Finally after 38 hours of digging through concrete and twisted metal, the man moved a final boulder and found a small space where several children had been protected. His son was among them. The first thing he said to his father was " Daddy, I told them not to be scared. I knew you would come". Brother Splane paused, and then he said... " The faithful slave is engaged in a massive search and rescue mission. It is an enormous task, and what they are asking of you and me is : " Are you going to help me now?" Then he walked off the stage. http://bestrealstories.blogspot.com/2010/05/fathers-promise-ill-always-be-there-for.html

  7. Scientists Achieve Quantum Teleportation One of the hurdles to teleportation has been overcome, with the reliable movement of quantum information between two objects separated by a short distance. The achievement is still a very, very long way from the movements familiar from science fiction, but strengthens our confidence in the theory of quantum entanglement, one of the most controversial aspects of modern physics. It may, moreover, assist the much closer goal of quantum computing. Certain subatomic particles always exist in paired states. For example, two electrons may have opposite spins. This is fine initially, but creates a famous paradox if one particle is interfered with in such a way that its spin is changed. According to entanglement theory the other particle will instantly respond to the changes wrought on its pair so that the two remain opposite. However, the distance between the two this means that the information of what has happened to the one particle must be transmitted infinitely fast – faster than the speed of light. Einstein famously mocked the idea as “spooky action at a distance”, and suggested our understanding of quantum mechanics must be in error. However, with quantum theory's subsequent success physicists have grown more comfortable with the idea that entanglement exists, although many argue it cannot be used to transmit information . In 1964 physicist John Stewart Bell came up with an idea for an experiment to test whether entanglement is real. At the time the test was impractical, but with publication in Science a team from the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands have got close to conducting Bell's test . The Delft team trapped electrons in very low temperature diamonds, which team leader Ronald Hanson describes as “miniprisons”. This allowed them to measure the spin for each electron very reliably. Alterations to this spin were reflected in the spin of an entangled electron trapped in a similar diamond prison on the next bench . The small distance between the two diamonds makes it hard to demonstrate that the transfer of information is occurring instantly, rather than at light speed. Consequently, the next step will be to entangle caged electrons and expand their separation across town or around the world. Entanglement between islands more than 100km apart has already been demonstrated, but only statistically, rather than with 100% success . Besides finally settling one of 20th Century physics greatest debates, reliable quantum teleportation could make possible the ultimate in secure communication channels, which would also be infinitely fast as well. Although this is starting to sound awfully close to Ursula Le Guin's ansible, most physicists dispute the possibility of such a device. As usual, the result does not come out of nowhere. Other teams have also been able to teleport quantum information, but only in a minority of cases. Last year Hanson's team announced they had achieved quantum teleportation using diamond entrapment, but without the 100% reliability of the most recent work. http://www.iflscience.com/physics/scientists-achieve-quantum-teleportation

  8. All the Royal Families of Europe were related, which caused them heartache and problems when countries went to war. Queen Victoria who ruled England, though her and her husband were German, had a large family with so many children and 42 grandchildren, that married into other Royal families. The Queen was known as the "Grandmother of Europe". Yet, by the time of the First War, when her Grandson George 5th was on the British throne, his cousin was German Emperor Wilhelm the 2nd (Kaiser Bill), but it didn't stop the War. His other cousin was Czar Nicholas of Russia (looked very like him), but they could not stop the Czar's family getting assasinated in the Russian Revolution during the era of the First War. As stated above Queen Victoria's granddaughter married the King of Spain, but she was a haemophilia carrier like other members of the same Royal family and 2 of his his sons were born with this dreadful disease. It was because the King of Spain caught the nasty Worldwide flu after the War - and he being a famous person around the world - that it got the unfair reputation and name The Spanish Flu - when it actually was not from Spain at all.Despite being gravely ill the King did recover. Due to Anti-German feeling stirred up with propaganda in Britain during and after the War, the British Royals changed their German surnames, Sax-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor after one of the ancient castles they owned in England that was built by King William the Conqueror (from Normandy France) in 1070.

Perhaps some Muslim adherents will take a second look at Christianity and in turn recognize the only way to salvation is thru Christ. "I am the way and the truth and the life. Yesterday somewhere, I read that the old Nokia mobile (cell) phones are back in vogue and are being snapped up - mine didnt take pictures, just texted and phoned - couldnt get batteries in the end. But the torch I have in my emergency kit is a wind-up one (no batteries) and it allows my old Nokia phone to be plugged in and I can charge the battery by winding the torch handle. Suddenly I've gone from an old granny to a tech-savvy cool gran! Without even trying. How good is that? I just have to find it now.

  19. A regular local customer - Paul - who since retirement has been collecting stamps, coins and banknotes - came into our antique shop a few years ago and asked my husband if he would visit his home as he had some interesting things to show him and maybe to sell him. My husband went there. The man showed him things of his collection that he was willing to sell. Then he started showing him personal 'treasures' that he did not want to sell, but thought my husband would be interested to see. "I will show you some things that our family have kept, but I won't sell, My Uncle served in the First War. One of the nastier jobs he had was to go into the battlefield after a battle to try to identify the dead, see to the rescue of those injured who could be saved from all sides of the conflict, but worst of all, if the injured person was deemed beyond rescue and dying he was told to 'help them along/put them out of their misery'quicker by putting a bullet through their heads. After one particular battle he was sent 'over the top' (of the trenches) into the battle area aftermath. He came to a shell-hole where he found a dead soldier and beside him a 'runner' - a corporal of the German side who acted to relay orders to the different areas of a battlefield where wireless wasn't available and deliver officer despatches. He was injured in the shell-hole beside the dead man and looked in bad shape, couldn't see - perhaps blinded by the mustard gas. He begged Paul's Uncle not to shoot him, but get him to the hospital. The Uncle decided to let him live and got him out to get treatement. After the First War, he received a letter via the Red Cross from this German Corporal thanking Paul's Uncle for saving his life - and the corporal's name signed on the letter - Adolf Hitler. His Uncle obtained his address from the Red Cross and replied and did get a couple more complimentary/friendly and grateful letters. That's why the family had kept the letters, but secretly, for all these years. Paul's Uncle would not be Britain's favourite person by the 1930's when AH became Chancellor and details of his anti-semitism and expansionist plans were leaking out and the next World War began!! How different history would have been if his Uncle had decided AH was too injured and not worth saving!

    Convention Lunches

In the past... it was sub sandwiches, bag of chips, oreos, and whatever else. Since we're trying to really get slim this year... it'll just be a Chicken Cobb Salad for me and a Southwestern Salad for my wife. Both with a yogurt dressing at 35 calories for 2 tablespoons. A 60 calorie sugar-free chocolate pudding (because we're still stuck on the puddings from conventions and assemblies from long ago) and a Diet Coke. It all ends up being about 450-500 calories. P.S. 12lbs down since April 18th! Gotta keep losing! Convention or not!

  30. I just got in a conversation on the subject and I was reminded that society brought out that it would be when they were "saying" peace and security, not after a big announcement but consecutively speaking of it, so this could be significant in the "saying" it is speaking of in the scriptures. I keep watching these events thinking we must be extremely close to Jehovah's day.

  33. Friday, May 30 No man can come to me unless the Father, who sent me, draws him.—John 6:44. Each person whom Jehovah draws becomes part of a worldwide congregation of genuine friends who love what is right. Our loving God helps such ones to gain his approval. He has also been selecting from among humankind prospective members of his heavenly government. Upon gaining their heavenly position, these devoted ones will help obedient humans to reach perfection and endless life. Clearly, even while he is patiently waiting, Jehovah has been working to fulfill his promises—for our good. It can be challenging to keep this in mind as we grow older or suffer in this wicked system. We might become discouraged or feel that God is slow to fulfill his promises. (Heb. 10:36) Never forget that he has good reasons for being patient and that he is employing the intervening time for the benefit of his loyal servants.—2 Pet. 2:3; 3:9. w12 9/15 3:5, 7

  44. There was a thread on Mexican food a while back, I posted a recipe for entomatadas. But you want spicy foods and salsas so I have to think a bit because I just make a basic salsa with blended tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, salt. Maybe some cilantro or diced onion. There are other salsas, some with cream added, but I'll have to ask about that. Mostly the foods themselves are not spicy, but the salsas can always be added to a food. Are you able to get or make tortillas? Corn or flour? What are some of the foods you have ordered at that Mexican restaurant? What's on their menu? My husband has been making some good chiles rellenos lately. Few ingredients but tricky to make because you have to remove the skin of the chile (poblano). I'll try to think of some more things you might like. Mole, pozole, fish tacos...

  49. Town council settles with Jehovah’s Witness congregation By JAKE BERRY Staff Writer for the Nashua Telegraph MERRIMACK – A court settlement could have given second life to the Merrimack Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which is seeking to build a house of worship in town. After months of court battles, the Town Council on Thursday agreed to a settlement that has revived the proposal for a Kingdom Hall within the town borders, according to Councilor Jackie Flood. “We’re settling with the church,” Flood said. “They’ll withdraw their suit with no prejudice.” Last fall, members of the town zoning board shot down a proposal to build on Wire Road, citing traffic issues and decreased property values, among other concerns. But congregation elders promptly turned around and sued over the decision, accusing the town of religious discrimination. The matter has been caught up since in U.S. District Court. “In an effort to avoid the continued expense and potential liability … the Town Council has agreed to settle this litigation,” town officials wrote in the draft settlement that was up for discussion by councilors Thursday. “This Town adamantly denies any wrong doing and this settlement acknowledges that fact.” Congregation elders first agreed to buy the property at 63 Wire Road last year, looking to end their 25-year search for a permanent home. The group, which consists of 100 members, has met for years without a stable place of worship, hosting meetings instead at congregants’ homes and neighboring churches. The zoning board’s denial, however, left the congregation looking to the courts to continue the fight. Attorney Michael Tierney, who represents the congregation, filed suit in December in U.S. District Court, alleging that the town’s zoning ordinances leave room for discrimination. The loose wording of the zoning codes allow town officials room to use their own discretion, rather than established criteria, when considering building projects, Tierney argued before the court in January. “In this case, we’re not claiming we have a free right to build anywhere in town. We’re saying this ordinance is unconstitutional and gives power to discriminate between denominations,” he said at the time. But Judge Joseph DiClerico disagreed, ruling against the congregation’s request for an injunction, or an immediate decision. “Despite some contrary authority, the court is persuaded that the location of a church, absent of other expressive issues, does not implicate the right to free expression,” DiClerico wrote in his decision, released in April. Since that time, the matter has remained held up in court. But the proposed settlement could allow both sides to move forward, they said. Members of the congregation already have signed off on the settlement, as has the town zoning board, according to Town Manager Eileen Cabanel. If the Town Council agrees, the matter then will go back to court for final approval. Should a judge approve the settlement, congregation elders then could bring a proposal back to the planning board for consideration. Board members then would go through the site plan review process, hosting public hearings on traffic concerns, among other issues. Flood said the zoning board has passed off the traffic and other issues for the planning board to address. “The planning board’s going to start from square one where it always starts,” she said. “We hope this will give us another chance to find a home in the Merrimack area,” Ralph Randall, the congregation’s project development director, said Thursday. “Our aim is to work very closely with the town of Merrimack in their building practices, so we can do it according to their (ordinances).” Article Source: Nashua Telegraph

  50. "Life" The sun was shining brightly, the day was warm and fair. The sky was blue, the earth was calm, and spring was in the air. The world was strangely quiet; no clatter could be heard. Only peaceful sounds of nature, like the singing of a bird. Awakened by the cooing of a dove up in a tree From a sleep that so refreshingly invigorated me, I was sure I slept, but briefly, cause I didn't even dream But so strange it was to waken in the woods beside this stream. There were flowers all around me, and birds up in the trees, and the fragrant smell of roses drifting in the breeze. I'll fill my lungs completely with breath of life so sweet. And rising, it feels so good to me to stand upon my feet. I get up and wander to see if I could find Somebody who would talk to me, another human kind. As leisurely I walked along a path that I had found I remembered being here before, but things are changed around. The trees are so much larger, and the stream crystal clear. Where the city stood is forest now, and fox and bear and deer. The mountain peaks and valleys, where the river runs its race, Are all that's left to help me to identify this place. As I walked along the river into which the stream had flown I wondered what had happened to the world that I had known. I can't say that I miss it, the world I had life in. It was filled with hate and sorrow, wickedness, death, and sin. Just then I heard laughtler of a child enjoying play, So I went in that direction to see what the child would say. As I came around the corner of the bend, there in the trail, I saw a bear with a little girl a-tugging at his tail. He didn't seem to mind at all her gentle teasing tug, But responded with a playful cuff, and then a big bear hug. I could see the bear was harmless, with her engaged in play, So I asked her if she could help me, possibly, to find the way. She asked me where I came from, and where I'd like to go? I told her I was confused and really didn't know. Explaining how I wakened, there upon the forest floor, I told her that it seemed, somehow, I'd been this way before. She said, "Oh, now I understand. You're just back from the grave. You've slept in death for many years; to you now 'Life' God gave." She asked my name, so she could help my friends and loved ones find, And made me feel so welcome to be back among mankind. I was amazed that friends I'd known had been expecting me, And I was told the latest dead ones soon alive will be. They say I can have this life of peace without an end If only close to God I keep, and always be his friend.
