  1. In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed to stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods: On a Sears hairdryer -- Do not use while sleeping. (Shoot, and that's the only time I have to work on my hair.) On a bag of Fritos -- You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside. (the shoplifter special)? On a bar of Dial soap -- "Directions: Use like regular soap," (and that would be how???....) On some Swanson frozen dinners -- "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but, it's "just" a suggestion). On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom) -- "Do not turn upside down." (well...duh, a bit late, huh)! On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding -- "Product will be hot after heating." (...and you thought????...) On packaging for a Rowena iron -- "Do not iron clothes on body." (but wouldn't this save me more time)? On Boot's Children Cough Medicine -- "Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.) On Nytol Sleep Aid -- "Warning: May cause drowsiness." (and...I'm taking this because???....) On most brands of Christmas lights -- "For indoor or outdoor use only." (as opposed to...what)? On a Japanese food processor -- "Not to be used for the other use." (now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious) On Sainsbury's peanuts -- "Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a news flash) On an American Airlines packet of nuts -- "Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts." (Step 3: maybe, ooh...fly Delta?) On a child's Superman costume -- "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly." (I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one.) On a Swedish chainsaw -- "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or genitals." (Oh my ..was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

    JW Library - app

Read my post more closely, This video was not directed to us to keep 'spiritually strong', but it was telling us about a whole new field that is now open for cultivation. It is to reach a people that 'speak a different language', that communicate better using the internet, smart phones, emailing etc.

  12. A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, What does love mean?’ The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined See what you think: ‘When my grandmother got arthritis , she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore.. So my grandfather does it for her all the time , even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.’ – Rebecca, age 8 ‘When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’ – Billy, age 4 ‘Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.’ – Karl, age 5 ‘Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.’ –Chrissy, age 6 ‘Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.’ -Terri, age 4 ‘Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him , to make sure the taste is OK.’ – Danny, age 7 ‘Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing , you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss’ – Emily, age 8 ‘Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.’ –Bobby, age 7 ‘If you want to learn to love better , you should start with a friend who you hate” –Nikka, age 6 ‘Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt , then he wears it everyday..’ –Noelle, age 7 ‘Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.’ –Tommy, age 6 ‘During my piano recital , I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.’ – Cindy, age 8 ‘My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.’ –Clare, age 6 ‘Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.’ –Elaine, age 5 ‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.’ –Chris, age 7 ‘Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.’ -Mary Ann, age 4 ‘I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.’ –Lauren, age 4 ‘When you love somebody , your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.’ - Karen, age 7 ‘Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross..’ –Mark, age 6 ‘You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.’ –Jessica, age 8 The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, ‘Nothing , I just helped him cry’.

    JW.ORG umbrellas

Personally I think wearing the pins in the ministry is ok as I stated in another thread. I did mention though in that thread that this could get out of hand and I used the example of not wanting JW.org on bumper stickers or something. I see umbrellas and ties as bumper stickers, I think it is not necessary and it could become tacky. I really believe we will get some clear instruction on this very soon from the GB as it seems it is getting a bit out of hand. One of the reasons I see the pin as ok is I think of when we have our conventions and how we are asked to wear our convention badge when we go out to dinner afterwards or in the hotel, etc. I think the pin in the ministry is not a tacky thing or not too commercial, like our convention badge. And if worn out in the ministry only, I think that could be acceptable.

  19. Sadly dragon is not a real animal, and in Chinese culture, dragon is always related to myth, where the story is about chinese god or goddess, and so on... For me, it is "supernatural" animal, LOL...Besides, chinese view dragon as a symbol of luck, then somehow it is related to fortune... So, I am commonly avoid this "animal" include most of Chinese Witnesses that I know... Plus, dragon has bad record in Bible, so I don't like him no matter he is western or chinese... But hey Jadon, I love that picture too except for the dragon part...

    Android vulnerability

In short the article says there is a flaw that can compromise many sensitive areas of a device because Google hasn't verified that an app really deserves to have access. There is a fix and a looming concern. The article goes on to say: "However, the many thousands of devices still running versions of the operating system ranging from Android 2.1 to Android 4.3 and have not been sent the fix by relevant network operators and manufacturers remain vulnerable if they download apps from outside the Google Play store." "Dr Steven Murdoch, a security expert at the University of Cambridge's computer laboratory agreed this was a serious flaw. But he added that most device owners should still be able to avoid being affected." "Google will be looking for people who are exploiting this vulnerability in applications being distributed through its own Google Play store," he said. "So, if that's the only place that you get apps from, you are in a relatively good position. "But if you download applications from other sources you will be putting yourself at risk." A spokeswoman from Google confirmed that the company had scanned all the applications in its own store as well as some of those elsewhere. "We have seen no evidence of attempted exploitation of this vulnerability," she added. BlueBox is releasing an Android app of its own that will check whether the host device has been patched." Heads up!

  22. Could it be said that the owner of all the gold and silver would be limited to one car? Perhaps driving Adam and Eve out of the garden in a FURY? "In his fury he has torn down the fortified places ..."(Lam 2:2) Talk about hot. (Lam 3:1) "I am the man who has seen affliction because of the rod of his fury." Or perhaps the request at Psalms 83:15 regarding his enemies, "...may you pursue them in your tempest"?

  25. Yesterday I was at my local supermarket buying a large bag of Purina Dog Chow for my loyal pet, Jake, the Wonder Dog, and was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think...I had an elephant. So, because I have a sick sense of humour I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is, to load your pants pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stopped to pee on a fire hydrant and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. The local supermarket won't let me shop there anymore. Disclaimer: This is not a true story. It is just a joke. Hopefully it makes you smile.

  27. To be fair, the ones I speak of didn't use the bible or any non-large-print publications at all during meetings, because squinting at the pages (even in the reference bible) caused headaches and distracted them too much from the meeting. For one, the app was the first time she had a bible for the meeting in nearly a decade.

  28. Some pet peeves of other people.............cleaned up somewhat. 9 Things I Hate About Everyone 1. People who point at their wrist asking for the time... I know where my watch is pal, where the heck is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is? 2. People who are willing to get off their behind to search the entire room for the TV remote because they refuse to walk to the TV and change the channel manually. 3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn Right! What good is cake if you can't eat it? 4. When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the heck would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? 5. When people say while watching a film, "did ya see that?" No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor! 6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?"... Didn't give me a choice there, did ya sunshine? 7. When something is 'new and improved'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new. 8. When people say "life is short". What the heck??? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!!! What can you do thats longer? 9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?" If the bus came, would I be standing here???- Unknown

  29. Has anyone noticed there was a new update??? It's a good one. The four videos are on there now: Why study the bible? What happens at a bible study? What happens at a Kingdom Hall? And the new one: Using JW.org to share the good news... How great is that? So convenient! Just this week I showed the bible study video in service. The app I used is ok, but this is so much easier. Now if only highlighting would be added...

  35. As usual, very good articles. What I really appreciated was the interview of the brother under the 'Success' article. He was doing all the right things spiritually. It seems he and his wife had always put Kingdom interests first and were regular pioneers (at least for a time) while owning a spacious home with luxury cars, material possessions, etc. The article states that he was an accountant and in the music industry. On top of that they owned 4 barber shops. Since he had people do the work for him he didn't need to work a lot and this no doubt allowed both him and his wife to regular pioneer. Yet they still felt empty. It was only after they realized that it was because, although regular pioneering, they weren't really putting Kingdom interests first. It was only after selling these things, simplifying their lifestyle which allowed them to really put Kingdom interests first in their life that they felt 'successful' and fulfilled. Interesting, isn't it? I have heard so many times from brothers and sisters that they want to get things in life 'paid for' so that they can then free up their time to put first Kingdom interests. Sayings such as, 'if only I could have the life of brother and/or sister so-and-so. They can pioneer now because they have no worries financially." Really, as if their pioneering relied on financial security. It doesn't and never will. Many thousands of our brothers and sisters are pioneers in spite of not being 'successful' financially and they do it day in, day out year after year. Shows Jehovah's spirit in it and the fact that he doesn't need anything from this system to help his servants fulfill his will. Makes me wonder, in this couples case whether others in their congregation looked up to and aspired to be like them. Perhaps thinking that they had the perfect pioneer situation with what looked like both financial and spiritual success. Yet they state they felt empty and only felt happy and fulfilled when they stopped relying so heavy on this system of things. I know of a few brothers who are very successful in business and at the same time are exemplary examples in the congregation. They never miss meetings, are regular in the field ministry, never miss their parts and yet you hardly see them with big smiles on their faces. I may be wrong, but it seems that only when they shed themselves of the material things that are burdening them down that you see big, genuine happy smiles come to them. I think this article, the interview in particular could have a lot of impact on our brothers if they allow it to. Especially those living in so-called first world countries or those around the world who are trapped into the thinking that one can have their cake and eat it too. That is be both monetarily and spiritually 'successful' and at the same time feel genuinely happy, joyful and content. I also like the quote from the Me Generation book in which the author stated that research has consistently found that peoples lives are not made much more happier through material gain after the 'subsistence level' has been reached. Although I know what the word means, I still looked it up in the dictionary. Primarily, it means, 'the action...of maintaining or supporting oneself at a minimum level' and 'denoting or relating to production at a level sufficient only for one's own use or consumption, without any surplus for trade'. The thesaurus shows that the words, 'survival' and 'sustenance' can be used. Of course the word sustenance reminds me of 1 Tim. 6:8 in our older Bible which says with 'sustenance and covering' (food and clothing) we will be satisfied. Money, which buys sustenance and covering can indeed buy a certain amount of happiness, joy and contentment. But as research and the Bible bring out, it only brings the happiness that is associated with having our basic daily needs met. Yet the world still pursues materialism as if only the rich and powerful are the only happy ones that exist on this planet.

  36. Our COBOE was told they were going to use i as an retirement village for CO's and other ex traveling overseers. Plus Missionaries that can't stay in their assignment because of age. They have given their lives to Jehovah and have no way to support themselves in Retirement. What a loving provision this would be for them. Plus if they used the classrooms for training what a grand way to Celebrate what these missionaries and Other Brothers have done with their lives. They sacrificed everything for Jehovah and now they will get an early reward. Living in Paradise now.

    Apple Ipad Apps

All I do to cut and paste is to hold down on a word, options pop up, copy, double click on the iPad button on the bottom, open the other app I am using, press the spot where I want to paste (in Text mode) and paste. I do that for all the scriptures I want to move to whatever I am doing or studying. I study my Watchtower and mags, and the KM in Notability. I like the books better in GoodNotes and EZPDF Reader. I like taking notes in GoodNotes as well. I have set up different "Bookshelves" for my Book, and CO visits another for Assemblies. I can put the Assembly program as the cover page. I also use the Meekspace for getting midweek study, I think you have to get the app thru Meekspace web site, but the icon is cute so definately worth the trouble. I use FreeVideo for all my Theocratic videos. Equipt is definitely worth the price since that gives you the books off line once you cache them. So having the insight, Reasoning book, ministry school book...nice. The only way to have various apps open in an iPad is doing the double click on the bottom button, that will show you what is open and going back and forth from like Notability and Bible...it will always show them together so your not having to hunt for them. Have two showing on a screen would be nice but if there is a way, I haven't found it.

  42. New York post article.... Paris Jackson arrives at Los Angeles' Kingdom Hall with her brothers on Tuesday, carrying the book "Sing Praises to Jehovah." CHURCHIN' URCHINS JACKO KIDS TAKEN TO WITNESS TEMPLE By TODD VENEZIA and KATE SHEEHY Last updated: 10:20 am July 16, 2009 Posted: 3:28 am July 16, 2009 Michael Jackson was a lapsed Jehovah's Witness, but now that his holyroller family has the kids, they're making sure they get some religion. Jacko's 11-year-old daughter, Paris, and her brothers, Prince and Blanket, were spotted being led into the faith's Kingdom Hall in Los Angeles Tuesday by their aunt, Rebbie Jackson. Dressed in a white shirt and black pants that matched her siblings, Paris was seen holding a book called "Sing Praises To Jehovah." Jacko was raised a Jehovah's Witness as a boy by his mom, who, unlike his dad, is an adherent to the faith. It's unclear if the late King of Pop ever wanted to raise his children in the church. In recent years he reportedly dabbled in Islam and in the Jewish mystical belief of Kabbalah, popularized in celebrity circles by Madonna. He was never seen taking the children to temple, and it's been years since he took part in the faith's best-known practice, knocking on doors to get converts. Jacko's friend Firpo Carr, however, said this week that Michael had recently wanted his kids to embrace the religion. "I was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses," Carr quoted Jackson as saying to the "Nancy Grace" show. "And I'd like them to be raised the same way." Meanwhile yesterday, Paul Gorhanson, a masseur who once lived with Jackson's dermatologist, Arnold Klein, told Radar Online that Klein told him he was the real father of all three of Jacko's children. Gorhanson said that Debbie Rowe used that fact to squeeze more money out of Jacko during their divorce in 1999. As reported in The Post this week, Rowe cut a secret deal for about $4 million with Jackson's mom, Katherine, to give the grandmother custody. Rowe's attorney has denied that a deal was cut. A family source told The Post yesterday that, as part of that deal, Rowe agreed to wait to get paid. "She won't get it {the money} right away. {The family has} to retire some debt first," the source said. "The deal is, she's going to get it once Katherine settles in." The family confidante said the new custody agreement shows Rowe has no interest in raising the kids. "It says that if it's convenient for Katherine . . . {a} supervised visit would be allowed. Katherine could make up any excuse {to nix a visit}," the source said. ------
