When he was talking about Uriah, it reminded me of all the innocent victims of someones wrong actions. When I read the account of Uriah again, I noticed he wasn't the only one that died when he was put at the front of the battle, there were several innocent victims. I think of the 36 men that died at Ai because of Achan's sin. Those 36 men went into battle knowing they were doing the right thing, they were following orders and were probably sure they had Jehovah's blessing, yet they died. Their families no doubt wondered if they died because they had done something wrong, but they were just innocent victims of Achan's sin. I think of these accounts and realize that sometimes we may be doing all of the right things but are just in the wrong place at the wrong time.8 points

A New "Bombshell" Study Shows Our Brains Are ...
Cherie and 4 others reacted to Beggar for the Spirit for a topic
I thought that many here on JWtalk would appreciate hearing about this new study. Apparently Scientists are continually being surprised or even shocked at the capability of the Brain. Maybe some of these scientists will conclude that the marvelous design, capability and engineering of the brain must have a "Designer". Here is the link for this article: (there is also a cool video showing how "Synapses" work in the brain) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/brain-capacity-study_us_56a1a50be4b0404eb8f11d63?5 points -

Here we go again, let the gardening commence- planted 13 hills of spuds- German Butterball, Reds, Purples. Artichokes never died back, beets still looking good, leeks still there and lettuce isn't looking so 'wintery'. With this early crop of spuds I can then later fill this section of the garden with about 25 green plants. I'll have enough to preserve and lots to give away to hungry friends. And yes, the straw is supposed to be there, helps to bulk up my beachy sandy soil which is looking beautiful.5 points -

Blizzard/Snowstorm Eastern Seaboard U.S.
Allabord4Jah and 2 others reacted to Omoyeme for a topic
To all who are affected by the East Coast snowstorm; please be careful if you must venture outside. Roads are treacherous today and maybe for the next few days. Otherwise, how are you coping with the snow blizzard? Are your meetings cancelled for the next couple of days? Have you had your hot cup of (a) chocolate (b) tea or (c) coffee to help keep you warm? Or have you decided to just fly to the Caribbean to getaway from it all? (I wish.) What say you?3 points -
About the famous fake money example for someone who doesn't think it's really important to change religion because his own religion is good enough, helping the poor, etc. (Just know the real money and you'll be able to identify the fake one, Bible Teach book, ok?) you can add : "Suppose now you have 2 kind of fake money, 1 that really look like real money and 1 that is just for toys. Which one is the most dangerous?" or, another one : "If one use, or merely possess, fake money... what will the government think about them?" These are good questions to ponder over.3 points

WHY GO TO THE KINGDOM HALL? A Christian complained to a brother who does not make sense to go to the Kingdom Hall every week. He said: "I have gone to 30 years ... and in that time I heard about 3 million public speeches. But, I can not remember a single one of them. So I think I'm wasting my time and the brothers spending them for giving speeches. " Wisely the Elder replied: "I've been married about 30 years. And all this time, my wife cooked about 32 million meals. But in all this time I can not recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I know one thing: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my job. If my wife had not given me these meals I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to the Kingdom Hall to nourish me, I would be spiritually dead today! "3 points -

Need help in Toronto
LoneWanderer and one other reacted to RaymondG for a topic
My next big trip is looming large and I'm seeking help from someone who might have a little spare space to stash my van for six and a half weeks. I'll be driving across from Washington and arriving in the Toronto area on May 6 to fly out to Paris. On June 23 I'll return to Toronto and on June 24 I'll go to the Saturday of the Regional Convention at Kitchener before heading back to the south to continue on the trip. The vehicle to be left for the six and a half weeks is a Dodge RAM350 van. I can promise that we'll be able to tell you lots of tales of our travels, first the part across the USA and then after we've traversed 18 countries in Europe. Oh, yeah, I did say 'we' there. I won't be travelling alone this time. That's because I've found someone to fill that great gulf in my life and we're going to get married on February 29.2 points -

I've been wondering if i dare take a pic with shades since my nephew sent me one (of him). Then I decided to take a selfie to show what 64 looks like with out makeup. The actual pic is of my little dog, with myself reverse photobombing it. One can not see my baby doggie in this view. I will try to learn that re-sizing trick and get some more canine views posted. I don't think I can convince my dogs to wear sunglasses, even by showing them that awesome giraffe photo. However, I do love that fedora on the giraffe, and am not adverse to sporting a similar chapeau. In fact, I have painted a gold tree on one of my walls and hang my hats from it. If I can get that pic reducing thing going on, maybe I'll post some of my off beat home decor.2 points

I'm so happy to be able to eat avocado, finally (don't know what changed but I'm glad it has). Had some boneless chicken left over from dinner, put an avocado on top of it for breakfast, so satisfying. And I made guacamole for the first time too, had it on an omelet.2 points -

I noticed something about this picture that I hadn't noticed before. The cobblestone street looks like this is a European country but the money is American. Edward Aljian: An Important Reminder - 45 min. talk
jayrtom and one other reacted to Beggar for the Spirit for a topic
This was probably 1 of the best talks I have heard in a while because: 1} This talk focused on the most important subject in the Universe - Jehovah's Sovereignty 2} Then the talk also greatly helped us to see our role in how we can uphold Jehovah's Sovereignty and find true JOY - even when under trial, sickness, injustice! 3} Multiple scriptures were explained with an angle I have never even considered before! These scriptures came "alive & exert power"! QUESTION Does anyone know of a way to get a complete "transcript" of this talk? I already started taking notes but it is taking me for ever as there were so many Gems that I want to remember! Please help me, otherwise I may be taking notes for many hours, and I am slow.2 points -

Edward Aljian: An Important Reminder - 45 min. talk
countrykaren and one other reacted to Omoyeme for a topic
That may or may not be the case Brother John. However, the fact that the GB made the decision to put this thought-provoking discourse (and many other morning worship talks) on JW Broadcast for millions of Jehovah's people to sit, watch, listen and for many of us non-bethelites--to make application of it in our lives is testamount to the love the FDS has for Jehovah's servants worldwide. Then too, I felt an immense gladness knowing that I'm making Jehovah's heart glad by keeping integrity under trials and I'm grateful that one and ALL have access to this, and many other encouraging bible discussion online. "We are sisters, we are brothers, sons and daughters and more..." , yes we're family.2 points -

Another one. With a sister one day, just walking, we approached a man and he went off on us! The sister wanted to leave but I was so amazed at what he was running his mouth about, it simply amazed me. He was carrying on about the blood issue, and other things...just gabbling away. We waited till he kinda guieted down just a bit and seemed a little unnerved we were still there. Oh, and he's walking around in almost a circle while his mouth is going on and on. Each time I tried to say something he went on again, on and on. About this thing with us and about that thing with us, all conduct related. Wait. Before your get the impression that he was yelling, noo he wasn't just sorta "energized" like that rabbit. Finally he took a breath. Whew! Then we moved in... Sir, I asked him, why are you getting all up in the air about those things like the blood thing, the holidays, voting and such"? Why not first learn about the person who tells us not to do those things? Those other things can wait. Get to know him first." He looked at us with that "whatttt" look on his face, kinda almost like incredulous, looked away something as if a mild wind managed to blow at him, and walked away...very calmly. From the side view i saw him turn around and look at us again. But we never saw him again. And just like the other one...at least he heard.2 points

Beware the toddlers!
GrumpysWife reacted to Witness1970 for a topic
If you talk about climate change some people try to turn it into a political discussion. If you talk about the economy people try to turn that into a political discussion. I worked at a research plant that was doing research and was funded by the government. Several Witnesses worked there. We knew that a Republicans president might mean cutting the funds. We had to be careful not to get involved in discussions that would be seen as political.1 point -

Basket of diamonds. There was a King that had two slaves. The King told the slaves that he would paid them a years wage if they would take the all the water out of his well and dump into a wicker basket. The slaves agreed to do the work. The first slave took a bucket and filled it with water and dumped it into the wicker basket. He did this two or three times and relized that he was not accomplishing anything so he told the other slave " This is foolishness, we are not accomplishing anything, I am leaving!" The other slave tried to reason with the first slave saying "The Master already paid us our wage, we have to do this!!!" The first slave left anyway. The other slave picked up the bucket and continued the work until the well was dry. When he finished he looked into the basket and saw a basket full of diamonds. They were transparent to the eyes while in the water. When the master returned he praised the faithful slave and gave him the basket of diamonds in addition to the wages he already had recieved. In Jehovah's organization some times we do not always realize what we are doing or why we might be doing something but Jehovah never asks us to do anything that will harm us, and if we are a faithful servant of Jehovah's, he will reward us with a treasure beyond imagination. just a lil happy thought of the day : Illustration Proverbs 25:11 says: "As apples of gold in silver carvings, Is a word spoken at the right time for it" The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for Jehovah to rescue him and everyday he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames with smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened! Everything was lost! He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. "Jehovah, how could you do this to me?" he cried. Early the next day he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here? asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied. Moral of the story: It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because Jehovah is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain, and suffering. Remember that, the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the undeserved kindness of Jehovah. You may want to consider sharing this, because you never know who feels like their hut is on fire today.1 point -
