  1. You know what I've come to appreciate about us? Is that we are not overly-attached to material things. I mean, these properties contain our history, and are significant no doubt. But the Slave is setting an example for us that material things should not take priority. Many, or better most, religions would hold on to their historical buildings even to their own detriment. We are more than willing to move on IF THE NEED ARISES. When this old world is gone, we will have to willing to leave our things behind. The Slave is leading by example in this regard.

  10. I believe this is a "non-committal" stance that allows for this interpretation. Some insist that alcoholism is genetically based. Even if that is true, to be baptized you would have to refrain from intoxication. It has been said that once a person is an alcoholic, he or she will always be one. They must learn to abstain. The scripture cited refers to these as "deeply ingrained" traits.

It's good to keep in mind that the individual family units in each congregation are the basic foundations for the individual congregations, so it is urgent to keep the families strong. I am single by circumstance, not really by choice. Because I live with my brother brother, we do have a semblance of a family unit. He is the spiritual head and does the 'man' things in the household, although we both do kitchen duty and I do a lot of research and spiritual preparation for both of us. He doesn't even know how to turn the computer on. ( He also listens to me when I threaten to shoot the computer.) We all have to serve Jehovah to the best of our abilities and pray for his direction in everything. We all know that this system will end right on time so we must remain strong within our congregation so it will flourish.

Hence, if we recognize that we're part of vast organization both seen or unseen it gives us courage....Peel the ceiling, take the roof off this place and look up and see Jehovah. He is the One who's directing, He is the One who's encouraging us to see the reality.” — Bro. Ralph Walls

  18. The article is about how Catholic hospitals will not perform abortions or issue contraceptives to anyone, including non-Catholics, that use the hospital. It's warning non-Catholics they will not receive the same treatment at a catholic hospital as they would at a non-catholic hospital.. Conclusion: Health care decisions should be that—made between a patient and his or her physician, and not subject to anyone else’s religious beliefs. The rise in Catholic health systems hurts patients, particularly as patients are often unaware of the restrictions until they find themselves in urgent need of care. Hospitals must be required to clearly state what services they provide or deny. In my opinion, taxpayer monies should not be used to discriminate against patients nor given to facilities that deny appropriate and necessary medical care. As the ACLU-MergerWatch report concludes, “Religious freedom in America means that we all have a right to our religious beliefs. But it does not give us the right to use our religion to discriminate against and impose those beliefs on others who do not share them—especially when doing so comes at the expense of women’s health and lives.”

Did anyone notice the small segment in this month's broadcast about the preaching work of our Russian brethren? They had the latest revision of the NWT in there hands! Through Divine intervention, the literature is getting through to Jehovah's people there. This reminds me of an experience I wish to share: In 1996, a friend and I took a trip labeled "The Bible Lands Cruise" on the Mediterranean. We docked and toured Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Greece and Crete. When the ship made a stopover in Cairo, we welcomed aboard a local brother who told us how Jehovah's holy spirit was enabling the friends there to "preach undergound" despite the ban in that country as well as in most Arab nations. He gave us a few encouraging experiences and afterwards, many of us rushed up to him to shake his hand and to express our gratitude. Interestingly, we found out at the end of our journey that this "trip to Egypt" was more than a "meet and greet" occasion and proved beneficial to the local friends there. With Jehovah's holy spirit, his word is getting in these countries where the work is greatly restricted.

Thousands of buildings have been razed from the flames. It has grown by 10X what it was yesterday. I just watched the national news on CTV its devastating. People were driving through falling hot embers because the fire had crossed roads while they drove. No one has died in this whole thing which is amazing in its self. People are saying it was like driving through Armageddon.

  29. This makes me happy, I have to wait for my news at my hall tomorrow in terms of what's happening to our brothers. We are organizing donations through our place of employment as well. I have been watching this for a bit, as I've mentioned in another post, I know more. I actually work for the disaster recovery operations part of the government, but am not permitted to say more at this time. Just know that any and all prayers are welcome from my end, I have asked on my facebook page for them as well. Normally I don't ask for prayers, preferring them to be more of a private thing, unless its something really big and bad. This is that very case. Someone mentioned the animals above, I felt and thought the same way too, in some instances people weren't able to go back for anything. They left with only the clothing on their back. If ANYTHING, this disaster is a lesson for us. Many, many people had no gas in their vehicles to make the length of a trip it took to get out of the city to safety. Many waited until it was almost too late. People on the news are referring to it as apocalyptic and Armageddon like.....

  32. Sometimes all of Satan's missiles seem to go in deep so to speak. I haven't felt so low for a long time, I'm tired, tears flow, I WANT to do more but I feel frozen. So I'm discouraged and feel hopeless at times. Like Paul said the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Too many challenges yet knowing Jehovah won't let us go beyond what we can bare. Reading and concentration feel impossible. If it weren't for the love of Jehovah and our spiritual family who could stand? We can be our own worst enemies in staying positive as we examine ourselves with a critical eye. A few thoughts while in the eye of the storm ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. Hi Brother Keith, Your questions are good and important for us to understand. So let's try to find the answers to each question you asked: > "what are the reasons that encouragement is needed?" First, there are different forms of encouragement because there are different reasons for the various encouragement that is needed. Brothers Jerry, Lance, Richard have already provided some of the various reasons why we need encouragement. So Keith, when we look at all these various reasons, we can see a common issue - and that is the majority of the time the"reasons" encouragement is needed is because we are "lacking" something and often others can "see" this and so try to provide support. For example, Brother Joe had to be removed as a Ministerial Servant and the elders and others in the congregation can "see" that Joe is not quite the same, he is commenting less, his ministry has decreased, a sad face. So what are the "reasons" that Joe needs encouragement if Joe already knows what he needs to do spiritually? The "reasons" are that Joe is lacking or suffering in several areas - his self-esteem may be quite affected, he may feel embarrassed and/or shame for his conduct, and the discipline has hurt a little. And so when a person begins to hurt or suffer in some manner, the person's "glasses" become foggy or dark. For example, in this case about Joe, his emotions have affected his spiritual "glasses" or view. His self-esteem has worsened so his "view" of himself is foggy/dark and he is lacking in courage to face all of this so his "glasses" are dim. So to directly answer this question, 1 of the main "reasons" encouragement is needed is because whenever we are hurt or saddened or depressed, this directly affects our view of matters - our view of ourself, our spiritual view, our view of many things. > "When we are feeling down does our memory fail us?" Normally we still remember the truth, even if something traumatic has happened. For example, Sister Mary's husband just died. Mary is very sad and has a hard time moving forward. But Mary has been Pioneering for 20 years, she has helped so many people learn about the promised New World and the hope of the Resurrection. Has her memory now failed her and she cannot remember what the Bible says about "death" or whether or not there is going to be a "resurrection"? No, Mary could easily explain and even directly quote the scriptures about the "resurrection" hope . So the memory has not diminished, but the sadness and emotional turmoil directly affects Mary's thinking and view of herself and her view of the future being without her spouse and best friend. So Mary doesn't need someone to help her recall the scriptures, she is in need of "courage" to face the difficulties that she has to face ahead alone. > "Do we need convincing of Jehovah's love all over again? Does our faith diminish? Does our hope diminish?" These questions here point to what I mentioned earlier that "there are different forms of encouragement because there are different reasons for the various encouragement that is needed". So let's use the examples above, does either Sister Mary or Brother Joe need convincing of Jehovah's love all over again? Well Mary knows that Jehovah loves her, from all of her time serving Jehovah she is convinced of Jehovah's love for her as 1 of his precious sheep, but the "reasons" that she needs encouragement are different that Brother Joe. Joe on the other hand has lately been wondering about how Jehovah views him since he had to be removed from his privileges. Joe, like Mary, is also convinced that Jehovah is a loving God who loves his people, but now Joe is wondering whether Jehovah loves him? So while Joe does not need a full convincing all over again of Jehovah's love for him, his "glasses" have become foggy and so he needs encouragement to reassure him of how Jehovah still loves him and that being disciplined by our Father means the opposite of Him no longer caring about us or not loving us. And so the elders visit him and encourage him by adjusting his "glasses" by means of scriptures like this one: (Hebrews 12:6) ". . .for those whom Jehovah loves he disciplines...." Now does our faith or hope ever diminish? Notice another situation, Brother Fred has been working hard for the congregation and for Jehovah for over 40 years and has also been successful in business. But recently his business started failing and eventually Fred loses his business and income. Now Fred is angry! And now because of the anger and frustrations over this situation, Fred now has foggy "glasses" thinking to himself things like this: "Why would Jehovah allow this?", "Why aren't the elders helping me faster?", "I have given my life to Jehovah! He promised that if I seek first the Kingdom I would have everything I need!" As Fred festers on these thoughts over the following weeks and months, sadly his faith in Jehovah, the elders diminishes, as well as his hope in the Bible's promises. Does Fred need someone to study the Bible with him again to help him remember what the Bible says about these matters that are affecting him? No. But Brother Fred does need encouragement in the form someone helping him to clear up the "fog" on his spiritual "glasses". Fred also needs to be reminded, even though Fred's memory has not failed him, of what Jesus exactly promised at MT 6:33 and what this really means. And also a reason that Fred needs to be encouraged is because he now sadly sees through his foggy glasses that all of his hard work over the past 40 years is for nothing. So while Fred knows the following the scriptures, Fred's close friends visit him and clear away the fog on his glasses by encouraging Fred with scriptures he already knows. For example his friends encourage him telling his this: "Fred, do you realize what you have really done in these past 40 years? (They read to him Mt 6:30) You have actually been storing “treasures in heaven.”! Your record of fine works for the congregation and for Jehovah are like riches deposited with the Creator in heaven and you can be assured that the blessings that come from this are long-lasting!" Now Fred's glasses start getting clearer! Now he doesn't feel so bad. This encouragement gives him the "courage" to keep going! Finally, think about this interesting fact. A person might feel that the reason we need encouragement is simply because we are just imperfect. Yes, we are imperfect which definitely affects us, but what if you were perfect? What reason would you need encouragement them? Well perfection is relative, and so here is a person who needed encouragement, even though he was perfect! *** w14 4/1 p. 6 Should You Pray? *** Instead of removing a personal problem, God often gives his people the strength needed to cope with it. (2 Corinthians 4:7) For example, when Jesus begged his Father to remove an ordeal, fearing that it would bring reproach on God’s name, Jehovah dispatched an angel to strengthen his Son. (Luke 22:42, 43) Similarly, God may use a close friend to give us a word of encouragement when we need it most. (Proverbs 12:25) Because this kind of answer is subtle, we may have to be more alert to the way God responds to our prayers.

    The Movie - "Risen"

Well I watched this in the theaters yesterday. I have to say, compared to Exodus or Noah, this one can clearly be labelled "okay" SPOILERS AHEAD There is some questionable or false content: - Jesus is impaled on a Tau-cross (T-shaped cross) - Mary-Magdalene is hinted at having been a prostitute - I'm sure at some point it is implied Yehshuah is Yahweh.... later on, though, he is called "Son of God" and that God gave him a body like ours, which is why he eats - The 11 apostles count Clavius as their "brother" later on when in fact, they did not know gentiles would make up part of the new covenenant at this point - Clavius is around during the last appearences of Jesus If you can accept the fact that this movie is pretty much 80% fiction, then you will like this movie. I found the biblical references to be quite accurate (except for the above) all through the film. Sadly, it starts out VERY promising but instead of becoming a movie about a man finding faith, it makes the mistake of becoming reminiscent of a young boy's fantasy about travelling back in time to become a Roman soldier and get to meet Jesus and boy oh boy! to be there when he ascends to heaven. Sort of like... what if a Roman dude had been there all along, wouldn't that have been cool? Ironically, Jesus says to Clavius at the end "If you doubt although you have seen, how much more will those doubt that did not see?".... I would have preferred the movie if Clavius "faith" had developed based on eye-witness accounts only and a very, very short sighting of Jesus that could just as easily have been a mistaken identity. The bible says that at the sea of Galilee, only the 12 apostles witnessed Jesus ascension. They could have given Clavius that final meeting with Jesus when he appeared to 500 brothers at once.... until then, Clavius could have met a lot of resistance by Pilate and other Roman superiors... given up his career as a tribune despite ample pressure to consider his career possibilities in Rome. They botched a very good opportunity for a great story-line with this film by creating an alternate timeline type of feeling... On a more positive note, the characters are interestingly portrayed. Pilate and Caiaphas are very entertaining and authentic. The scenery, the costumes and the setting are breathtaking. The apostles and Jesus were portrayed in a very positive light, and yet it all seemed a little bit like they were a revolutionary band of love-bombers that surf in their free-time. "Ya know, dude, it's just like.. the Way changes you! Ya don't wanna live by the sword, but by love... know what I'm sayin'?" It was definitely okay to see, but due to the fact that they took the plot too far into the realm of fiction in the second half, the movie remains mediocre. I'm giving it an extra point for not being utter garbage like Noah or Exodus. Final verdict: 7/10 - enjoyable

However, if you have the supplemental information already downloaded on the JW Library app, for example, a Watchtower, then you can tap on the article in the supplemental box, and it will take you to the full article, on the left-hand box (main box), where you can then highlight the article.
