Carbon is a component of air. So every time we breath, a small amount of carbon is stored in our body. Now there's a variant of carbon named carbon 14 which is radioactive, that is, it slowly disintegrates. A small amount of C14 is stored in our body too when we breath. As long as we keep breathing, that amount remains stable. But as soon as we die and stop breathing, it begins disintegrating. It like an hourglass that is activated when one dies. Scientists have measured accurately the rate at which C14 disintegrates. Of any given amount of C14, half of it will have disappeared after 5730 years. And we know how much C14 is usually found in any air-breathing creature: man, animal or plant. So when a fossil is found, comparing the amount of C14 it has with the original amount it had at the time of death it's easy to calculate how long that creature has been dead. The problem with this method is that the older the fossil, the smaller the amount of C14 is, and therefore harder and less accurate to measure. Besides, if the amount of C14 in the atmosphere was considerably higher or lower in a certain period, fossils from that period will be inaccurately dated as considerably younger or older than they really are. We know for certain that the ratio of C14 in the air has not been constant, so datings by C14 often have to be "tuned" using other methods, which of course adds a lot of subjectivity to the dating.

  11. A friend of ours got married last month and the wedding photographer used a drone to take some video of the local winery where they held the reception, the winery is in our congregations rural territory and so is most of the countryside you see in the video. I think it is pretty interesting they used a drone.

  12. Did you know that you can hike a 'Garden of a Eden' trail in Florida? Sounds crazy? The history of it is crazier, but a testimony of religion in America. The founder, Elvy Edison Calloway, believed that God had created man in the delta of Apalachicola river, which splits into four. In the 1950s you could pay $1.50 at the roadside kiosk to view a log of what he claimed was 'gopher wood' of the type Noah used, which was the local Torreya yew, and then enter a garden of cliffs, rivers and wildlife. 19. Monday, September 19 The borrower is a slave to the lender.—Prov. 22:7. Jehovah knows that we need some money. But money cannot protect and sustain us the way godly wisdom can. (Eccl. 7:12;Luke 12:15) In many cases, individuals underestimate the cost of going overseas to work, and there are no guarantees that they will make money abroad. In fact, there are grave dangers. Many emigrants return with even greater debt. Rather than being freer to serve God, they end up serving those to whom they owe money. The wise course is to avoid going into debt in the first place. Seek Jehovah’s direction before you make decisions and commitments, not after making them. Pray for his holy spirit, wisdom, and guidance. (2 Tim. 1:7) Ask the elders for Scriptural advice, and show your faith and trust in Jehovah’s promise to help you by following his counsel.—2 Cor. 1:24. w144/15 4:10, 17

My FB account is deactivated. But it still exists somewhere! I occasionally activate it to contact a company when I have trouble making phone calls due to breathlessness, then I deactivate it again. (I suppose deactivated just means no one can find it?)

Whenever I hear reports with dates discovered with radio-carbon 14, I remember when we did the special campaign with April 8th 1972 Awake magazine. I had a great time at school with this issue. We were doing experiments with C-14 at the time in the science labs, so I placed lots of copies with friends and friends of friends who made requests. Placed lots and had to beg around the congregation for more copies as more requests came to me off more kids at school. This magazine and a further one that discussed the so-called era layers of geology (Jurassic, etc) and how innaccurate they are too, went down really well with pupils - not the teachers though!

    What's in Your Beer?

Isinglass is used in wine-making too. It's sticky and heavier than the water, so it's dropped in the casks and goes through the liquid picking up the particles that's making it cloudy and takes them to the bottom, so that they form on the dregs or sediment at the bottom, whilst clearing the liquid. It saves time of waiting for the liquid to clear naturally, or if the liquid has been moved and the dregs have mixed a bit. I wouldn't think there's much, if any left in the liquid if it's poured/filtered off the dregs by the time it's bottled.

  27. Are you asking about Greg's picture? Or Mandi's picture? Or Richard's? (Or perhaps another one above?) It looks like Greg's photo was taken when he was visiting California. Mandi's photo is in New Zealand, not Alberta. Who knows where Richard's crocodile is from...?

    A good joke

After Adam stayed out late a few nights, Eve became suspicious. "You’re running around with another woman— admit it!" she demanded. "What other woman?" Adam shot back. "You’re it!" That night, Adam was fast asleep when he was awakened by Eve poking him in the chest. "What are you doing?" "Counting your ribs." Sent from my C6802 using Tapatalk

Thanks, I didn't know that I could create lists/groups, or about the tagging etc. I think the first few posts that showed up when I first created the account were the worst. But, it was a good lesson, otherwise I could have let my guard down. Some of the nurses I work with have helped me out. Through facebook I've been able to reconnect with some of my old security/Police mates - the ones who always respected my decision to become a Witness. I'm a "friend" of Bill Underwood. And I've begun "following" some of the people he communicates with. So, I'm getting more spiritually healthy posts on my main page.

  37. This came off the BBC, under Andies Isle. A friend sent it to me this evening, and I want to share it with all of you. It reminded me how Jehovah made this planet to sustain itself and to sustain us forever on it. It reminds me of his wisdom in creation, and most of all his LOVE. http://www.andiesisle.com/magnificent.html

  38. This is the mountain that is 'down the road ' from me ... this was taken earlier this month. We are in Spring but still have some snowy weather for another month or so off and on. There are three mountains in a row ... Ngarahoe, Ruapehu and Tongariro - they are active volcanoes, and there are hot pools amongst the ski fields. About 1 - 1 1/2 hours drive from my house, and on a beautiful day we can see Ruapehu very clearly. - Breathtaking.

  39. This is a great, but very long (almost 4 hours), video of Simone Liebster talking about her experience during WWII. She also talks about what she has done since then, and gives a great witness about how the faith of the Witnesses not only helped them to survive the persecution, but also to resume a normal life after their liberation.

  41. This is unbelievable! To hear American soldiers singing, "There is no God like Jehovah!" If you are in a hurry, skip the video ahead to the 2:08 mark and listen to them sing! We are really close to the end... It’s the second half of the video that is really unusual….Satan has got everyone so confused! http://www.wnd.com/2014/09/video-u-s-marines-chant-theres-no-god-like-jehovah/ I wonder what they could do with our songbook??
