    All Things LDC

Just had our Kingdom Hall maintenance training for the rest of us today. The brother and his wife has been going over the hall taking photos and getting everything organised including throwing out our step ladders and replacing them, and training elders etc. 90 minutes of talks presentations and explanations. Savings of around $80,000,000 per year I believe he said are likely through doing this. We had 104 show up to be shown the ropes on how to use the manual and worksheets and what was involved.. Youngest there was about 4 oldest was in their 80s and every age between. My 8 year old son kept asking questions and offering his thoughts, as he always does. It was great to see the brother take time to answer him and encourage him.

  2. A teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it. The next day the kids came back and one by one began to tell their stories. Kathy said, "My father's a farmer and we have a lot of egg-laying hens. One time we were taking our eggs to market in a basket on the front seat of the pickup when we hit a bump in the road and all the eggs went flying and broke and made a mess." "And what's the moral of the story?" asked the teacher. "Don't put all your eggs in one basket!" "Very good," said the teacher. Next little Lucy raised a hand and said, "Our family are farmers, too. But we raise chickens for the meat market. We had a dozen eggs one time, but when they hatched we only got ten live chicks and the moral to this story is, don't count your chickens until they're hatched." "That was a fine story Lucy. Johnny, do you have a story to share?" "Yes, ma'am! My daddy told me this story about my Aunt Marge. She was a flight engineer during Desert Storm and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory, and all she had was a bottle of whiskey and a machine gun. So...she drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't break. Then she landed right in the middle of 50 enemy troops. She used the machine gun until it ran out of bullets! Then she finished the last of 'em with her bare hands." "Good grief!" exclaimed the horrified teacher. "What kind of moral could possibly come from that horrible story?" "Stay away from Aunt Marge when she's been drinking."

  3. While reading about Antarctica, I found some interesting info on Admiral Richard E. Byrd. While reading about Admiral Byrd, I came upon this, beautifully expressed, "Ah-hah!" moment: Star trails seen during the Antarctic winter over the Harker Glacier on the island of South Georgia. PHOTOGRAPH BY SAM CRIMMIN, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC I thought it would be neat if others had ever been reading and had suddenly come across similar "Ah-hah!" moments, that they could share them here.

    A good joke

An aged farmer and his wife were leaning against the fence of their pig-pen when the old woman wistfully recalled that the next week would mark their golden wedding anniversary. 'Let's have a barbecue, Homer,' she suggested. 'Let's kill a pig.' The farmer scratched his head. 'Gee, Ethel,' he finally answered, 'I don't see why the pig should be punished for something that happened fifty years ago.'

  8. My favorite power tools has to be the Sears Craftsman Radial Arm Saw and the Router. I have made a dining room set out of Nicaraguan Walnut, a oak bedroom wall unit that goes at the head of the bed having floor to ceiling cloths cabinet on each side and mirror across head of bed. I also remodeled older cabinets through out the house with oak trim. My latest project was to cut out of 2' x 12' rough cut redwood all the pieces, small and large, to make an eight sided gazebo.

    Watchtower Library on DVD

A literature shipment arrived at the AH this week and as the brothers were sorting it out, I noticed a lot of small boxes. I assume our DVDs have arrived, I'll know in the next week or so. However, thanks to the kind brothers here at JWT, I already have the new WTLIB.

  11. Like ChocoBro, in Britain it is a non-issue. I do often think with sympathy, though not with personal experience and understanding at what our brothers go through in flag-saluting countries. However, the excerpts above are good! Years ago I went to a classical concert where Charles, Prince of Wales attended along with Camilla. It was a case of all rise for the 'God Save the Queen', so we decided to remain seated. We were nervous like anything as we were on the sides of the auditorium, openly exposed to everyone. Then lo and behold, another family remained seated in front of us. Slightly relieved at not being the only ones, we were curious as to perhaps they could also be our brothers. Sadly it turned out they were Welsh Nationalists who didn't recognise their 'English Overlords', so refused to stand. I still chuckle over it years later at how our stand for the truth was distracted by some disgruntled Nationalists....

  12. Its interesting that a recent watchtower, in enumerating things that lead to happiness, would make a direct reference to the book of Galathians 5:22, 23 The listed qualities are; love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness and self-control; and goes further by annotating each of these wonderful qualities; * Love:-----Moves others to love you in return. *Peace: ---Gives you the strength to cope with challenges. *Long-suffering:--enables you to stay happy when under trials; * Kindness:---Draws others to you. * Goodness:--- on your part makes others to respond when you need help. * Faith:----will assure you of God's loving direction. * Mildness:---Will bring you calmness of heart, mind and body. *Self-control:---Means that your mistakes will be fewer. So these composite qualities as today's text mentions, help us help us to handle difficult situations without unduly complaining and to endure disappointments without losing hope.

    A good joke

Henry's family were country folk of modest means. One day his Uncle Festus came to visit. Since there were limited accommodations, they were required to share Henry's room. When Uncle Festus came into the bedroom, he saw Henry kneeling at the side of the bed with his head bowed. Thinking this was the child's religious upbringing, he decided to present a good example and kneeled at the other side of the bed with his head bowed. Henry looked up and said, "Whatcha doin'?" "Why, the same thing you're doing", replied Uncle Festus. "Ma's gonna be mad", said Henry, "The pot's on this side."

  23. I am a horrid jokester/prankster, especially with close relatives but today I held my tongue and only smiled. My brother in-law had knee replacement surgery this week and in three months he will go back for the other knee replacement. The Co says "he is like the Energizer Bunny, he just Keeps Going, and Going, and Going." What I held my tongue about was a suggestion that he might consider the Chinese alternative of transplanting his head on a new body. His level of pain didn't permit my crude humor.

  24. When I was at school, we had an assembly once a week and with it the national anthem. We would sit on the lawn at the front of the school and be told to stand for the anthem. I would remain seated. Quite a few students would take it upon themselves to encourage me to stand. As a consequence I would go home with many bruises, but I went home happy that I had obeyed Jehovah. I was however very happy to leave school at 15 and go into the workforce. I have never had an issue since, as I don't have to attend events of the sort that play the anthem. Even if it is not compulsory to sing the anthem etc. continue to pray for the children at school.

  28. My pound puppy, K-LEE the K-9: We adopted K-LEE from the shelter when she was 10 months old. She will be 15 in April. K-LEE has never barked at ANYBODY in her entire life. She barked at the cat once, for walking a little too close to her favorite toy. And she howled at the heifers, when they broke out of the barn one night and were dancing on the front lawn. She is now 100% deaf. Most definitely NOT 'guard dog' material. In fact, because K-LEE is so quiet, it's like having a picture of a dog.

  29. Saturday, January 14 The fruitage of the spirit is love.—Gal. 5:22. Other aspects of the fruitage of the spirit—such as mildness, self-control, and patience—are important too. (Gal. 5:23) They can help a mature Christian to handle difficult situations without becoming irritated and to endure heartbreaking disappointments without losing hope. In his program of personal study, he continually searches for Scriptural principles that can help him to distinguish right from wrong. Thereafter, when he makes decisions, he gives evidence of spiritual maturity. For instance, he listens to his Bible-trained conscience. The mature Christian shows humility in that he recognizes that Jehovah’s ways and standards are always better than his own. He zealously preaches the good news and contributes to the unity of the congregation. No matter how long we have been serving Jehovah, each of us can ask, ‘Are there areas where I yet should model myself more closely after Jesus, thus continuing to progress spiritually?’ w15 9/15 1:6, 7?

  34. Here is a recommended pump supply in Miami that has submersible well pumps and Jacuzzi style pressure booster pumps, along with miscellaneous one-way brass valves, contactors, control boxes, pump-savers etc. with good prices on E-Bay. https://waterpumpspro.com/ Talk to Scott or Luis , They are highly knowledgeable. They go by the name D Pump Doctor on E-Bay. We purchased a Goulds Jacuzzi style this past summer from them and they saved us $650.dollars. Our original Goulds pump lasted 15 years. Also tractor supply has the large Black 1000 or 2500 gallon water storage tanks available locally, but they are quite expensive. You might do much better with a wholesale local pump supply for the storage and pressure tanks in Portland or Vancouver.

Some local brothers recently attended an LDC meeting, I heard that the brothers were told that if they weren't using the Builders Assistant program, they weren't part of the LDC. It sounds like the Builders Assistant will be the only means of communication when the LDC is looking for help. Everyone that filled out a DC-50 is encouraged to update their BA profile.

    A good joke

A very zealous young minister came upon a Tennessee farmer working in his field. Being concerned about the farmer's future the minister asked the man, "Are you laboring in the vineyard of the Lord my good man?" Without even looking up, the farmer replied, "Naw, these are soybeans." "You misunderstand," said the minister. "Are you a Christian?" With the same amount of interest as his previous answer the farmer said, "Nope my name is Jones. You must be lookin' for Jim Christian. He lives a mile south of here." The young determined minister tried again asking the farmer, "What I mean is, are you lost?" "Naw! I've lived here all my life," answered the farmer. "Are you prepared for the Kingdom?" the minister asked. This caught the farmer's attention and he asked, "When's it gonna be?" Thinking he had found interest, the young preacher replied, "No one knows, it could be today, tomorrow, or the next day." Taking a handkerchief from his back pocket and wiping his brow, the farmer remarked, "Well, don't mention it to my wife. She don't get out much and she'll wanna go all three days."
