Hi Brother Ruben, You asked, "Why is it always more important when this kind of thing happens that no brothers were hurt? Maybe initially it may seem that all we care about is our brothers and sisters, but if you wouldn't mind closely looking again at some of the posts, you may see something different than what you initially thought. Here are a few quotes from some of the posts above: Sister Natasha - " It's sad anyone had to die or get hurt" Sister Shey - " Pray for their families to search for comfort from Jehovah " Brother Tracy - He started this topic because of the concern for what happened to the people in Barcelona. Ruben, if you went on vacation and found out that several bombs exploded back in your hometown of Munich, while you would be sad about what happened to those who were injured or died, wouldn't you have a special concern for your friends and family? Wouldn't you desperately be calling to find out if any of your friends or family were hurt? Yes, because those people are special to you. It is not that some people 's life is worth more than others, but each of us, including you and me, have an emotional attachment to those who belong to us, our family and our spiritual family and friends. So please be assured that we care about all human life and that we feel very bad about what happened to these people in Barcelona. But we are glad that no more people were hurt or killed, including those that "belong to us".5 points -
I've been thinking a lot lately about what John wrote in Rev. 11:18 - that god would "bring to ruin those ruining the earth". I would think John had to be puzzled by these words - how could man possibly "ruin" the entire earth?? It wasn't even remotely possible for man to do that in his day - in fact, it wasn't remotely possible until the last hundred or so years! And now man has done it - in a little over 100 years, he has truly ruined the earth - every part of it - sky, land and sea/ocean! Species are disappearing everyday, some we know about and others we destroy before they are even discovered! This kind of thing would render me hopeless and wanting to no longer be a part of the human race - so I thank Jehovah he let me find him!!!5 points

Sorry if I am reading something into these comments that isn't there. It's just this thing always comes up every time on this board when there is a terror attack. Sometimes it sounded like due to the nature of the event in question (Eagles of Death Metal concert, Ariana Grande concert), a sigh of relief goes through the forum because the ones who actually matter could not be so directly affected, could they? I always get the impression this relativates the suffering. This kind of thing seems exclusive to this forum to me, I never get this impression vis-à-vis from my brothers. By the way, I am equally angered when terror attacks killing over a hundred Pakistanis are not mentioned in mainstream-media but an attack with a knife injuring one person in Germany is worth hours of reporting. In any case, if brothers were affected I'm sure that Jehovah will find some way of using that for the benefit of his name or to help others, as he did in the case of Robert Oliver Calvo in 2015 with the Germanwings plane crash. I personally feel so much more pity for the families of the victims who have no palpable resurrection hope. The parents of a little girl who are about to be told by their priest that "God needed another little angel". People who never even knew what they were turning down when they closed the door on us. I pray they will listen now.4 points

Brother Reuben, it always hurts when we see this kind of thing, or an accident with loss of life. We know life is precious to Jehovah, He doesn't want anyone to die, He teaches us that. It is no great surprise to see that His worshipers, people like yourself, feel the same way... I don't look at the pictures very much, most times it's too painful and I don't want that vision to stay with me. I have 3 daughters, what you said about the little girl, well, I'm not even gonna look...I know from experience that it will only scare me and enrage me, historically that was how I reacted to threats to my girls. ..I don't want to go there. You, me, all of us, we all hate this kind of crap, hate it to our core but we also have that beautiful promise of the Resurrection, a hope so awesome that I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. That hope is what gives us solace during these trying times, it helps us to realize that though this situation is horrific, it is only for just a little bit longer and then those victims, that little girl, will be back, better than before, with a hope of growing up in Paradise. That is what helps me Brother, and I know it helps you too. I'm sorry you're hurting. You are not alone, I'm right there with you.4 points -

What would we do without Jehovah... There is no way I can handle any of this news these horrible things that go on all over the world if it wasn't for the hope of a wonderful future and for the resurrection of those in his memory.. Luke 21:26 .. People will become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth, ...... Luke 21:28 ... But as these things start to occur, stand up straight and lift up your heads, because your deliverance is getting near.” Only with Jehovah's help and holy spirit we will get through this. I've been baptized for over 43 years and never dreamt in my wildest dreams the Earth and the inhabitants on it could get this bad couldn't imagine 2Timothy 3 5-6 would be fulfilled in such a dramatic, dramatic way. praise Jehovah for all the Bible truths he has allowed us to understand in order to give us peace in Satan's wicked system of things as it near it's end Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk4 points

Got about an hour of informal in doc's waiting room. 3 tracts. One lady was my former student and has been called on by two Sisters (who are also sisters) from our Local cong. Went to a couple of meetings at KH some years ago, but did not get the df arrangement. We had a long conversation and she said she really gets it now. As it turns out, her current church is folding and she is looking for a new place to attend.4 points

I wonder if at some point we will be instructed that its a good idea to stop attending worldly functions? Things like sporting events, entertainment parks, concerts etc. Places where the majority of people attending are not witnesses. Places where the players, actors, musicians etc are not witnesses. I wonder if at some point we will be instructed to cut off all not essential association with the world. Like other than work or shopping for food or preaching. Just thinking here. Here is a crude example of "Focus Stacking." Three pics taken with a cell phone, handheld on top of a tripod. Each pic had a different focus point. Using Adobe Photoshop Elements + I used "Focus Stack" to combine the Focus of all three pics to make pick 4. With a proper camera used properly on a tripod, this can be done in 4K with outstanding results. Normally one would not need to crop this much but because the camera was handheld and the wind was blowing with bright sunlight bouncing off a wall this is what I get. All four pics were reduced in size to 25% of original.2 points -

Correct me if I'm wrong but are you saying you would have the same feeling if a close loved one were killed(child, sibling, parent, or close friend) as if anyone else were killed? I think this is human nature. It always comes up because it's a perfectly natural response. I think if our first concern was not for our brothers and sisters it would indicate a problem. When disaster strikes, such as an earthquake, the brothers immediately send aid to the friends in need....if they are able they help others as well. But primary recipients are our brothers. Doesn't mean we're not sad for others.2 points -
It used to really bother me when they would report on the news how many US soldiers we killed in Iraq, which usually wasn't that many, but wouldn't tell how many tens of thousands of Iraqi innocent civilians were killed. Less than 4,500 US soldiers were killed between 2003-2014, while 173,000-194,000 Iraqi civilians were killed between 2003 and 2017. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War2 points

Bittersweet news. On the one hand, this is bad for the preaching work and for the life of our brothers in Russia. On the other hand, this proves we are on the right side for being vilified and persecuted for being peaceful and neutral, while the servants of Babylon the Great move about bombing people, shooting people, beating people up, driving cars into people, burning homes, Kingdom Halls, but also churches and mosques and spreading hate.2 points -

It means that I shouldnt got classes back then when I was younger, not to have friends who is in the world, not to hear anything from tv who were mostly worldly people. I always like the thought of it but Paul said when what he want to do its not his will. It mean he is weak in doing spiritually perfect. We are grateful to the ransom and the example Jesus laid about the law is not to be subject on anything in the world but just love Jehovah and also neighbor as ourselves sis normaclutter2 points

Obviously we can get sidetracked in this discussion. It was mentioned in the Watchtower with some enthusiasm. I cite one instance: *** w76 7/15 p. 443 A Solid Basis for Confidence *** MOVING AHEAD WITH INCREASED CONFIDENCE 24 The chronology in the Bible is not there without good purpose. That chronology indicates that we are at the close of six thousand years of human history. While not revealing when God’s day of adverse judgment upon this wicked system of things will begin, this chronological fact does add one more reason to the many, many other reasons we already have for being confident that the remaining time is very short. It gives added support to these reasons as a basis for strong confidence in God’s word, that it is alive and powerful and will lead us on into a righteous new order.2 points -

Alas, the forecast for landfall doesn't look too promising. From "News Lincoln County": "Eclipse Viewing… The countdown for Monday’s Great American Solar Eclipse continues. With just five days left, forecasters are refining their predictions. Right now, it looks like it’ll be partly to mostly overcast here on the Central Coast during the eclipse itself, from about 9:00am-11: 30am, depending on how fast any morning low clouds burn off. The real wildcard of course is fog, often developing or dissipating quickly especially at prime viewing locations like the beaches and headlands. National Weather Service eclipse website is here." I remember the 1979 eclipse which was an overcast day. It was still very interesting. Birds started singing their twilight song, street lights went on, got very dark and reversed the procedure and got daylight again. I was not in a totality area at the time. We have guests coming some 350 miles to view it. Nobody took me up on my offer of the other guest room, guess I should have included room service. If we get light fog or light overcast the view will be okay. When no neighbors were looking I tried out my eclipse glasses. (Note to self, do not walk while wearing eclipse glasses,) forgot there was a shrub in front of me. No broken bones but shrub looks crushed.2 points

Athens is not too far from me but I will not be traveling to see this magnificent viewing. For now (this side of Armageddon) I will be content to view away from the crowds. It still amazes me that Jehovah made the sun and though 93 million miles away we still can't look at it without protection. Sometimes I become overwhelmed just thinking about it. I really really look forward to the future eclipses viewing with perfect eyes! Hey I wonder if we would need viewing protection then.2 points
