  2. While out in service Saturday my wife and I were enjoying the autumn colors, gold, browns and reds when we came upon this tree. Not sure what we are looking at, at first we thought a wild pear was seasonally mixed up thinking it was spring, we have had some unusual weather, but not that unusual.

  3. I woke up this morning very tired and in despair. I’ve been praying to Jehovah for strength to keep going for the last to days. This song has expressed beautifully what I have been feeling. I had been feeling like I have been holding my breath for such a long time. Hearing this song made me exhale if you will. There truly is power in Kingdom music & songs to lift our spirits. I must remember to turn on the Kingdom songs now when anxiety strikes me something I had neglected. Thanks Sis for sharing the gift of music and sing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Her husband said 'I am a writer. That's what I do for a living. 70% is crap. I make a living off 30%. I like to imagine how rich I'd be if I were any good.' She also does voice overs. The other morning about 4 am, she was sitting at the desk chuckling to herself. Someone asked 'What are you laughing about?' She said 'You all. You're halirious. Or at least you will be by the time I'm through with ya.'

  7. Our floor has recently had the addition of an ICU nurse to help when we are in a bind. She is very easy to work with and everyone has enjoyed her sense of humor. She and her husband are a,so standup comedians and writers. They write jokes for SNL and done for Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert Ellen, and others. The other night she was engaged in a topic with several others re: teen years and how kids think they know everything. She said off the cuff: 'No man knows the hour of Christ's return. But I'm pretty sure there's a teen girl somewhere who knows when. Because mine knows everything.' I asked her to describe her style of writing and she said 'Christian'. Digging deeper , because that's what I do, she said to her that means no sexually perverted material and no vulgar swear words. Her husband is also a radio personality here who I have heard of but did not know was her husband.

  8. My baptism was May 11, 1997. Just a few days before it my teacher said 'Oh, I forgot to tell you about dedication!' She explained it to me so later, on the way home from my daughters wedding, I made my formal dedication to my creator while driving back to LA. It was a 4 1/2 hr dedication!

I see a lot of pensioners there. & Boy do you see some crazy older drivers trying to speed their way out of the car park. Sometimes they have great deals. But still don't have everything. You have to pack your own bags. Which is ok if ya not in a hurry. They sell a great gluten free Selfraising flour

  12. I think we had another 'spring' early this fall. I have a second growth of tomatillo that came up in September. They began growing so good I moved them into the green house and now they have blooms on them. I'm still growing and harvesting lettuce too. Lew tried his hand at planting potatoes in there too for early spring harvest, not realizing how they'd take off this fall. In the garden I have 5 potato plants and, believe it or not, so much more dill I'm picking it for stronger dill flavor in the frig pickles. Loooong growing season this year.

I said I'll sleep in the dirt for you if I have to, and I'll give up my life if you ask it. Meant every word of it, and still do.

Ancient peoples looking like us physically. For some reason we tend to see people from years ago as somehow different to us. It's most likely the portrayal of media and such. You'd think them no different to someone walking the street today other than fashion.

  17. Some conditions help in the preservation of mummies. Desert climate, freezing temperatures, high altitude (the Andes in that case) tend to slow down the decomposition process. Where the climate is humid, mummies are not so well preserved.

  21. Nothing wrong with apologizing for it. Suppose you were on the phone with someone or you were sitting together and you nodded off? You'd come to and apologize. Of course, your friend would be understanding about it. I can also see the falling asleep in your father's arm aspect. You don't apologize for that. You were being rocked to sleep, after all.

    What IsAn Audiophile?

For me, there is no such thing as "background music", only music that is way too quiet in the background. When music plays it does become a center of what I'm doing, whether that's driving, dancing, or working. I'm one of the few people who professes to notice a distinct difference between MP3s and original audio-CD's. Our Kingdom Hall has a terrible set of loudspeakers that date back all the way to the 80ies, I believe. Up until recently, we had a live orchestra with piano, guitar, sometimes violin and keyboard (ugh) and it was so much better to sing to than the (otherwise beautiful) orchestra renditions being played from MP3 source through those less than mediocre loudspeakers. Having said all that, most people don't seem to notice any impact in the change at all (even though our singing has become terribly out of tune and out of rhythm since the change). So I am one of only few that actually suffers from this. It also seems that there are people who can't tell the difference between a home-made, hand-made patty and a McDonald's burger.

  29. I guess it all depends on what you call "Hi-Fi". It seems that, today, it is defined/described as "high-quality reproduction of sound to distinguish it from the lower quality sound ". However, when I was young and had a "hi-fi" system - systems were not considered to be hi-fi just because they were loud or even "high-quality" - they were only said to be hi-fi if they could produce music from 20 hz to 20 khz, something that not all systems back then could do. Many only produced from 50hz to 10 khz. Although these systems produced "high-quality" sound, they were not said to be hi-fi. Now, this may not agree with what Wikipedia says about hi-fi - but then, I do not know how old the person(s) who wrote the Wikipedia entry .... but, I did live in the 50's, 60's and 70's when the "golden age of hi-fi" gave way to solid state. So, why doesn't everyone love hi-fi. Well, quite plainly, many today cannot hear 20 hz - 20 khz. They think "loud" is good and don't understand that the loud is ruining their hearing. Now, as to getting the same sensations and emotions of a live concert .... there is not a music system on the face of the earth that can do that. Having heard and played in orchestral settings and hearing live concerts as well as live jam sessions ....... there simply is no recorded music that can match "the real thing" - at least, that is my opinion

    What IsAn Audiophile?

Unfortunately I don’t have the time, or money to be an audiophile. If I had more of both then I could see myself getting involved in the finer things in hifi. Coming from a music background I do know when something sounds good and when it doesn’t though. I am happy for the moment to have a basic sound system that gets me by but appreciate a good sounding amplifier and speaker set up. My wife is into old vinyl so I recently bought her a 1980s retro Marantz amp for £29 to get a relatively authentic retro sound for her records. Sounds good and it was within our budget. I must admit that during meetings and assemblies I notice every bit of feedback or too high/low volume and wish I could do something about it, whereas most people don’t notice it. Maybe that’s OCD or just the music background sounds in me.

  34. That's why I'd rather sit to pray, finish my prayer then get in bed and continue to express some feelings to God. To continue the example of the kid/father, it's like the kid have an important conversation with his father, then get in bed and continue a little bit... and... fall... asleep... As a father I like that very much with my daughters... the slow "falling asleep with a smile" moment is very cute.

  35. Friday, November 3 If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself and pick up his torture stake.—Matt. 16:24. Some might be confused about the difference between dedication and baptism. For example, some young people say that they have made a dedication to Jehovah but are not ready to get baptized. Does that make sense? Making a dedication means telling Jehovah that you will serve him forever. At baptism, a person shows others that he is dedicated. Therefore, baptism is a public expression of a private dedication that you have already made in prayer to Jehovah. Before you get baptized, you need to be sure that you understand what dedication means. Simply stated, when you dedicate your life to Jehovah, you give up ownership of yourself. You promise Jehovah that you will put the doing of his will ahead of everything else in your life. Any promise should be taken seriously, but how much more so a promise made to Jehovah God!—Matt. 5:33. w16.03 1:14, 15

  36. Interesting. I used to think like this as a child. But when I was having my Bible studies with a brother, he told me off for it and said Jehovah was angry with me when I did that, as it was rude and that I should never pray in bed to avoid it. All these years and I have still had that idea ingrained into my head. That I had to ask Jehovah for forgiveness if I ever feel asleep praying at night in bed.

I think a major reason our brothers go out of the way to avoid showing any violence is because many are very sensitive to it. Let's face it, there are several things that would be perfectly acceptable in themselves (like b***ds) but because of overly sensitive individuals we avoid it. I'm not complaining.... It is what it is. We don't want to stumble or offend others unnecessarily.

The difference is that the Bible isn't glorifying the violence, it is merely keeping an accurate record and not hiding what really too place. The account in 2 Kings could easily have gone on and on about how each Assyrian soldier was killed by the angel, which would also be accurate, but the focus would have shifted somewhat. I'm sure if Hollywood made a movie about this they would really draw it out. Chapters could have been written about the event, but instead, this is all the account says... "On that very night the angel of Jehovah went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When people rose up early in the morning, they saw all the dead bodies." ~ 2 Kings 19:35. I think the movie about Hezekiah did a good job at imitating the Bible, where it clearly shows that this event took place, but it doesn't draw out a lengthy scene of violence...and if they had've really drawn it out, what would be the point in doing that exactly? If Hollywood did the same, the point would certainly be to entertain people with the violence. There's an interesting correlation to history. In ancient Rome, many people would go to see gladiators fight to the death in creative ways, but of course the 1st Century Christians wouldn't participate in that form of entertainment for obvious reasons. Now, in the last days of this system, things can be a lot more subtle, yet just as bad. We do not have people literally killing eachother in from of us when we go to see a film, but they have gotten very good at making the killing look realistic, and really drawing out the violent scenes. The focus of many of these films really is to entertain the plebeians by showing people killing eachother in more and more creative ways...Of course, we can reason that the people are just actors, and that nobody really is getting killed, however is it really all that different when it looks just as real as if someone were actually being killed by someone, and we are getting entertainment out of it? I feel the need to reiterate: Violence is often used for historical accuracy, and not always glorified ~ in fact, some films are rather anti-violence or anti-war, and may even use violent scenes to shows the truth about wars, rather than to make it look appealing. The question is, is this film portraying violence for historical accuracy, or is it really drawing out the violence and gore, and trying to entertain the audience by use of the violence? Without watching the film, I cannot say, but I am very suspicious that that is indeed the case ~ and it would be a Satanic thing to do to make a Biblical account all about the violence rather than about Jehovah, and to mix lies in with it, and we can expect that such things would happen in Satan's world, especially in our time. Then again, as I haven't seen this film, I could be misjudging it, and it could be done accurately without glorifying the violence or adding lies, and maybe they will even use the Divine Name where appropriate. If that is the case, then I would like to know.

Imagine how different this movie would be if it were made by the friends, rather than by the world. Also, imagine how different that movie about Hezekiah would be if the world had made it instead...I'm sure that scene with the angel coming to kill the Assyrian army would have been a lot more detailed. Is the movie about the truth, or is it about entertaining people by the use of violence?

  46. I think the danger is making it about the violence, and maybe this movie wont - just like in the past with some versions of Moses it became about a battle between two brothers as in the Prince of Egypt not the vindication of Jehovah as it was about. No-one can say that the violence shouldn't be included, but knowing the world they will not only glorify it, but amplify it until the message is lost.;Hope not in this case.

The ad appears to be glorifying the violence. No doubt there will also be lies mixed in with it too, as is always the case when the world makes Bible-based films.
