  1. Back in 1978 I attended the International Convention held in New Orleans. We were asked to unload the truck(s) that had the new publications. They needed to get out of the truck at the loading dock, moved through the warehouse to the freight elevator, up a couple flights and taken to a large empty room down the Hall. While it may have been easier to use a forklift, as it turned out, it would not have been quicker. There was a call for volunteers. The Brothers expected about 20-50 Brothers to come help. I was in the truck lifting boxes from the stack and handing them back. Each time we cleared a row and stepped up, those we were handing them to were still right there directly behind us. As we moved deeper into the trailer, more brothers were added to the line inside the truck. After the truck was about half empty they told us in the front to take a break and replaced us with "fresh bodies" (it was rather hot in there) When I got out of the truck I got to see why the emptying process was going so fast. The line of Brothers came out of the truck, went across the loading dock, weaved around the other things in the way and ended at the elevator. They were placing the boxes on pallet jacks outside the elevator. As soon as the doors opened, the empty pallet jacks (they were taking them up three at a time) were pushed out and the full ones were pushed in. The Brothers started loading the now empty pallet jacks for the next load. I got to go up the elevator to where the boxes were going. When the doors opened, they pushed the full pallet jacks out of the elevator and there was another line of Brothers emptying the pallet jacks right there outside the elevator. They pushed three empty pallet jacks into the elevator and began on the full ones they had just taken out. The line of Brothers extended down the hall all the way to the room where they were being sorted and stacked. We emptied three semi-trailers in under an hour with all the boxes moved, sorted and stacked. That was the longest line of Brothers all doing a single task I have ever seen or had the privilege of being part of. If we had used a forklift there would have been several hundred Brothers disappointed.

  2. This subject reminded me of the old "Quick-Build" days before the RBC and LDC. At our "kick-off" meeting, the brothers reminded us that efficiency was not the total focus of the project. We were to include as many of the volunteers as possible. So on one project we had to unload pallets of red bricks to be used in the facade. The bricklayers needed a steady supply near their workstations. Some organizers wanted to use a fork-lift truck to move the pallets from the parking area to the other side of the building. The brothers in charge rounded up about 70 volunteers (including young ones), and had them form a "conga-line" around the building and pass the bricks from hand-to-hand and then restack them. Everyone participating enjoyed the work, were laughing and singing and even the younger ones felt that they were valuable in Jehovah's service. We could have done it much more efficiently if we had "optimized" the procedure. These are fond memories.

  6. New Chapter Day! Chapter Eight: The Tower Test Chapter Nine: What Paradise Means To Me We're coming up on the release date for the Kindle edition, and of course it will be put up free as well on the blog. Paper version will take a bit longer, but we'll get there. Is $3 (US) too much for the Kindle version? Kindle works on a 30% or 70% Royalty threshold. If you ask for 70%, you have to make it a minimum price of $3. I put Just See Yourself up for a dollar, originally, and got about twenty cents per copy sold. I'm hoping my fanbase is forgiving enough to go for the higher price; but at the same time I don't want to charge too high, given that my brothers and sisters are the target audience.

  10. Does anyone recall that phrase? It was a key point in a JW Broadcast talk around the beginning of 2016... it was about being patient and humble. I believe it was a talk, but possibly a morning worship. Can anyone let me know how to find it, please?

  12. THANK YOU, YES!!!! This is what I have been looking for! Side point -- having a better search function or dates associated with talks/morning worships would help optimize things.... but that's just me, probably... You brothers here optimal... thank you!

  13. Hmmm... I don't think this is it. It wasn't a vignette.. it was just a brother giving a talk, either as a morning worship or an actual talk. And he actually said, "everything doesn't have to be optimized", referring to the fact that, despite perhaps knowing a better/more efficient way to accomplish something, it's often best to hold back to see what transpires rather than run ahead.

  14. We just use common sense. Face it, animals eat things we would, never never eat. Poop for instance. I feel we can get carried away. If we take on the responsibility of owning pets, we just need to do the best we can. It is hard to compare pets and humans. We do not put humans down because we don’t want them to suffer anymore. Me? I could not use blood transfusions, or the blood to treat an ill animal. Nor would I purposely abort a litter. (We did one time, did not know a kitty was pregnant when we got her fixed) We neuter all our pets. We could be responsible, treat our pets wonderful, then, off they go. Running amuck, reproducing themselves. We see too many starving unwanted domestic animals in the service. Too many. I could go on and on. I just want all of Jehovah’s creation to be as they were created to be.

  15. We have had a few weak quakes in Northern Colorado since the fracking started. Brings to mind another prophecy, Rev. 11:18 "God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth." We know we are very near the end of this system. All the prophecies together tell us that all we are waiting on is Jehovah's command and the fall of Babylon the great.

  17. Some posts here reflect an inaccurate understanding of what our position is. As a general principle, once our blood goes out from our body it is unacceptable for Christians to have it reintroduced. This applies both to our own blood as well as blood from other humans beings or animals, and both by eating or by transfusion. Here is what the most recent publications say about the subject: As explained in those references, we cannot store our own blood and reintroduce it later in our body. That blood must be "poured out on the ground like water" (Deuteronomy 12:24). Most Christians accept a blood analysis with a good conscience because their blood samples are ultimately disposed of after they are analyzed. They are never reintroduced into their body. Now there are some medical procedures that add an external circuit to your circulatory system, extracting your blood, cleaning it or doing some other tasks, then reintroducing it without interruption. Since the Bible writers obviously didn't have those procedures in mind when they wrote, this is where each Christian faced with this situation has to make a decision according to their conscience. The same goes for blood fractions. If blood is extracted, some elements of it are processed and then reintroduced, some Christians may consider that what is reintroduced is no longer blood, the same as if you extract the water from milk it is no longer milk, but water. One fact that has helped some make a decision is that some blood fractions are passed from the pregnant mom to her fetus, and that's a mechanism that Jehovah himself created. Of course, other Christians reject all these treatments and procedures and that's ok too. But we would never accept in good conscience to have our blood stored somewhere, then reintroduced at a later time.

  18. I'll stick with our Bible Museum up at Warwick, at least this one didn't cost millions and it's not based on politics. I wonder how much he'll charge and what the vendors inside will charge for food and drinks. Isn't Hobby Lobby, a religious entitie? I've heard of this name before in the news years ago, not sure, but I think I heard of this name before.

  20. Tuesday, November 21 Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.—John 11:5. Although Martha was the only woman mentioned by name as being one whom Jesus loved, he also had pure unselfish love for other godly women, such as his dear earthly mother, Mary, and Martha’s sister, Mary. (John 19:25-27) Why, then, is Martha mentioned in this way in the Gospel account? Jesus loved Martha not only for her hospitable and industrious nature but, no doubt, because of her spirituality. She was a woman who truly believed Jesus’ teachings. Martha had remarkable faith in Jesus as the promised Messiah. (John 11:21-27) At the same time, like all of us, she was not perfect. On one occasion while Jesus was being entertained in her home, Martha presumed to tell Jesus what he should do to correct a situation she thought to be wrong. “Lord,” said Martha, “does it not matter to you that my sister has left me alone to attend to things? Tell her to come and help me.”—Luke 10:38-42. w15 10/15 3:1, 2

    Pope Francis

RELIGION Pope Benedict Disputes Jesus’ Date of Birth With the release of his new book, Pope Benedict XVI asks how much we really know about the birth of Christ By Sorcha PollakNov. 22, 2012 Pope Benedict XVI has revealed in the third installment of his trilogy, dedicated to the life of Christ, that Jesus may have been born earlier than previously thought. The calendar we use today, which commences with the birth of Christ and was created by a Dionysius Exiguus, a 6th century monk, may be mistaken. According to the Telegraph, the Pope explains in his book that Exiguus, who is considered the inventor of the Christian calendar, “made a mistake in his calculations by several years. The actual date of Jesus’ birth was several years before.” The suggestion that Jesus wasn’t actually born on Dec. 25 has been tirelessly debated by theologians, historians and spiritual leaders, but what makes this case different is that now the leader of the Catholic Churchis the one asking the questions. http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/11/22/pope-benedict-disputes-jesus-date-of-birth/ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk

Perhaps if large numbers of applications have been received, the host city may try to run more convention dates to accommodate the delegates. 44. If we were speaking of cell-salvage, dialysis, or other procedures that maintain an 'unbroken connection' to the owner of the blood (thus it is not "removed from the body"), there have indeed been clarifications of the matter. But even in these cases, blood cannot be removed and stored for extended periods of time. But we are not speaking of human medical procedures of placing blood back into one's own body, we are speaking of removing the blood of an animal or human, and giving that blood to other animals as food. Regarding that matter, the quoted article makes it absolutely clear that blood separated from the body should not be used for other purposes, including being fed to animals. Have you heard this in writing, or from the branch, HLC, CO, or other reliable source?

  45. Animals eat blood all the time. Every day. While I wouldn't purposefully add blood of any sort to the food, I don't give the ingredients in the food a second thought. And my son has a snake that I've regularly fed live rats to... blood and all. I've always believed the prohibition of blood was meant for humans, not animals.

  46. I really appreciated Sister Sylvie's post for many reasons, thanks for your post. While animals are not be viewed as more precious than humans, what some people might not realize is that the blood of animals is still sacred in God's view - because the animals blood represents life. And for this reason an animal's blood should not be used in a non-sacred way, like a transfusion. Here are some articles Sister Natasha for you so that you can refer to in case someone you know needs confirmation about God's view on the blood of animals.
