  1. As part of our recent forum reorganization initiative, we have created a dedicated Tech forum, and are in the process of putting all tech related discussions, including help topics regarding our organizations official apps, into this forum. This work will take some time to complete. Since we sometimes see some confusion as to what goes where, we have tried to name/title this forum very clearly. The tech forum is called "Computers, Tablets, Mobile Devices, & Apps" and is located here.... https://jwtalk.net/forums/forum/48-computers-tablets-mobile-devices-apps/ So, please, if you are wanting to start a topical discussion based around modern technology, please post it in that forum.

  3. Ok guys let set a few things straight here. If someone sics dogs on you or anyone else that is assault with a weapon. Call the police. If anyone threatens you with a gun or even shows you a gun that is a death threat call the police. We do not take abuse or threats lightly and they do need to be reported. As far as 3 sisters going to the door that is a matter of safety. I would never let a sister work alone door to door. Also yes it should be a constant practice in these last days. A sister working alone is at risk of attack or abuse. Therefore a lone sister should never work alone. Some areas of some cities it is not safe for 2 brothers to work door to door alone. 3 or more will attend at doors for safety reasons. This person in this case could be charged with a hate crime. That is very serious and would have the same result at antisemitism crimes again muslims hate crimes against any other race or religion. We should not shrink back from taking those steps.

JW are the lowest earners compared to all the other religions... in almost all of the categories we are the lowest on the totem pole! I actually felt proud.. if anyone was following Jesus footsteps as far as his command not to be worried about monetary wealth and procuring items for ourselves... we are obviously following his commands.. some people (and I think back to Saducees and Pharisees) that think the poor “ordinary” people were worthless but really Jesus and Jehovah loved them very much! ... I was thinking.. maybe we’re the lowest earners because there is less of us? Just wondering what everyone else though about this survey. Sorry if it’s in the wrong area!

  7. I think this is interesting and potentially significant. I also think there's a lot more to come on this. I may be going out on a limb here but I personally believe Russia is the "King of the North". Not sure if that's the general consensus currently, but I've been of this opinion for some time and especially so in light of recent developments regarding our freedom of worship there (or lack of it). I'm particularly interested in Daniel's prophecy, chapter 11, verses 44 & 45 in particular. I can't help feel that what Russia has done by outlawing JW's in that country shows he has 'planted his royal tent between the grand sea (the general population) and the holy mountain of decoration (Jehovah's organisation)' effectively preventing anyone from attaching themselves to Jehovah's organisation in that country. He appears to have gone out in a 'great rage to annihilate and devote many to destruction'. The last part of verse 45 says 'he will come all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him'. If this is indeed the case, then the first verse of chapter 12 helps us to appreciate where we are in the stream of time, as it says: 'during that time Michael will stand up...in behalf of your people'. That being the case, the Great Tribulation may be upon us imminently! I'll definitely be watching this closely.

I tried to help him get on his feet one time so he could be near his family... sad but he died faithful and true. Good basketball player too. We had a connection, we are both middle children. We got to stick together, haha. Oh a positive note, my kids made me laugh, that is one thing I did accomplish on my to-do list. Laugh everyday.

  15. First thing I thought is prejudices creep in. We saw that with that other survey on mental illness. Then I thought. Stop, and think. We are among some of the best dressed, nicest homes around. And we drive decent cars. And we support our God, and the hall, and our brothers and sisters around the world. I don’t care wha the survey says. I know our God is proud of us, and I am so proud to be one of you! And, surveys we are a happy people! (Mental illnessses or not!)

    Really dislike snow and ice

Well, I finally did it. I only had to go down the alley a short ways, walk passed the bank, cross a street to get to the Family $. Never made it passed the ATM machine and feet went in all directions. The ice under the snow was like an ice cube. With a bad knee now hurting (just a little) I managed to get myself up. Took 2 steps and legs went up in the air and down I went once again. This time REALLY hurting bad knee. Had to crawl to a snowbank hoping it would help me get up...it did. Family $ wasn’t important anymore. I limped home. Hoping I wouldn’t wipe out a third time. Managed to get to the deck steps and get into the house. Hoping it doesn’t get so swollen or sore that I can’t get to the garage tonight for my meeting. A brother asked me to read one of the scriptures tonight. Ive been dying to be asked to share in that.

  30. How ,many 100's of thousands are in bethal with no income or working as missionaries with no income. Or special pioneers? They all take a vow of poverty. They do not have jobs. How many regular pioneers are there around the world who live on minimal income to serve Jehovah with all they have? These surveys have no idea how many of our brothers and sisters have to live on welfare or government assistance in different countries. One thing they never survey about is how happy their petitioners are or how many they know in their church! How many of their fellows would give their life for there fellow believers? Or when was the last time they invited someone over even for coffee. Or what ever. These surveys are a joke.

  32. Tuesday, March 13 From now on you will be catching men alive.—Luke 5:10. Jesus had limited time to carry out his ministry. Nevertheless, he took time to cultivate the interest people showed in the good news. For instance, Jesus taught a crowd, using a boat as a platform. On that occasion, he miraculously gave Peter a huge catch of fish and said the words of today’s text. What result did Jesus’ words and actions produce? Peter and his associates “abandoned everything and followed [Jesus].” (Luke 5:1-11) Nicodemus, a member of the Sanhedrin, became interested in Jesus’ teaching. He wanted to learn more but was afraid of what others would say if he spoke with Jesus in public. Jesus was flexible and generous with his time; he met with Nicodemus at night—away from the crowds. (John 3:1, 2) God’s Son set aside time to build up the faith of individuals. Should we not be diligent in making return visits and conducting Bible studies with interested ones? w16.08 4:10,

  33. Well, to reply my own question in case it helps someone else. The point was to find the easiest method to watch the monthly broadcasting on a non-smart tv for some tech-challenged friends. I finally went for the Chromecast because that will allow them to play any other videos too. Besides, I was not sure that the Jw Broadcasting Roku channel worked in Spain. The Chromecast installation was very simple and troubleless. You need to connect it to an HDMI input in your tv and it will show the instructions on screen. You install a Google app in your phone, give a name to the Chromecast, and you're ready to go. Using it is extremely simple. Just use Chrome to play the broadcasting from tv.jw.org (or any video from any other site) and then click the Chromecast button. The video will immediately be displayed on your tv. Then a friend told me he has a Roku 2 device that he doesn't use and I borrowed it from him. The installation is equally easy. The biggest annoyance was having to enter the long wifi password using the remote, but you do that just the first time. There appears a menu with lots of apps you can install. Go to Religion an dthe first one is JW Broadcasting. Just click on it to install it, and in a few seconds it will appear in your Home menu. Just click on the icon and the website appears. So I can confirm that JW Broadcasting under Roku works perfectly in Spain, both in English and Spanish. Both devices are very easy to set up and to use. Roku has its own remote while with Chromecast your tablet or phone is the remote. Thank you very much to all the friends who have sent their suggestions. They have been very useful. Thanks!

All those videos are linked in with the Good News from God brochure. https://www.jw.org/en/publications/books/good-news-from-god/ Its a question we know the answer to, but to explain the answer to someone in a few minutes is a challenge. This video really gives the answer in a short time. Then hopefully you can return and start a study in the Good News brochure.

  47. This study is about the wealth of the Catholic Church, itself, in Australia and admits it is probably falsified in view of pedofilic law suit payoffs. The PEW study is of families professing to belong to a number faiths, who responded to a survey. It also seems to be flawed, standard deviations aside.

  49. Hi Everyone, Below are some very intriguing points about the Ransom. While we all know the basics of the Ransom, are there some further Gems about the Ransom that can encourage us and move us to love our Father Jehovah and Jesus our King even more? Yes! So whichever points you find valuable below, please express your thoughts and feelings about this or any other aspect of the Ransom as we can all encourage one another during this special time of the year! For example, below you will find interesting points in connection with the Ransom such as > orphans > "ready cash" > The one who paid the Ransom is the same as the one who provided the Ransom? > Jesus' blood is greater than ALL of something here on earth > What all did Jesus sacrifice? > When exactly did Jehovah view the Ransom as paid(very interesting!), > Does the Ransom apply toward people who died before Jesus' death? > Is the Ransom just a pointless exchange? > What type of transaction was the Ransom? > Jesus had to die for the Ransom but he didn't need to suffer? > Who owns all the humans? > Jesus has a "Rehabilitation" Center > How to lose out on the benefits of the Ransom ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** bh chap. 5 p. 50 par. 10 The Ransom—God’s Greatest Gift *** How did Jehovah provide the ransom? He sent one of his perfect spirit sons to the earth. But Jehovah did not send just any spirit creature. He sent the one most precious to him, his only-begotten Son. (Read 1 John 4:9, 10.) Willingly, this Son left his heavenly home. (Philippians 2:7) *** bw chap. 2 pp. 26-27 pars. 22-23 Encouraging Aid to Stick to Our Decision *** Having been redeemed from the condemnation of sin and death, we are under obligation to Jehovah God who made the arrangement for our being ransomed. Suppose a large amount of silver or gold had been paid to ransom us from death. Would we not feel deeply indebted to the one who made such a major material sacrifice in our behalf? How much greater, then, is our indebtedness to Jehovah God and to Jesus Christ! The ransom price paid was far more valuable than any material treasure that can be lost, stolen or destroyed. Its value is greater than all the silver and gold found on earth today. The precious blood of the sinless Son of God is the valuable ransom price that was paid. It is the lifeblood of someone who had the right to live forever and, hence, of one who did much more than give up his life prematurely, as other men have done for what they thought to be a noble cause. *** w14 8/15 p. 18 par. 8 How Jehovah Draws Close to Us *** Jehovah has made it possible even for people who lived before the time of Christ to benefit from the ransom. From the moment Jehovah prophesied about a future Savior for mankind, the ransom was as good as paid from his viewpoint, for he knew that his purpose would not fail. (Gen. 3:15) Centuries later, the apostle Paul expressed gratitude to God for “the release by the ransom paid by Christ Jesus.” Paul added: “God in his forbearance was forgiving the sins that occurred in the past.” (Rom. 3:21-26) What a vital role Jesus has in our being close to God! *** w11 6/15 pp. 14-15 par. 18 God Recommends His Love to Us *** That cannot mean that Abraham was sinless while serving Jehovah over the decades. No, he was not righteous in that sense. (Rom. 3:10, 23) However, in his limitless wisdom, Jehovah took into account Abraham’s exceptional faith and his works resulting therefrom. In particular, Abraham exercised faith in the promised “seed” to come in his line. That Seed proved to be the Messiah, or Christ. (Gen. 15:6; 22:15-18) Accordingly, on the basis of “the ransom paid by Christ Jesus,” the divine Judge is able to forgive sins that occurred in the past. Thus, Abraham and other men of faith in pre-Christian times are in line for a resurrection.—Read Romans 3:24, 25; Ps. 32:1, 2. *** w05 8/1 p. 29 par. 13 Jehovah Is “the Rewarder of Those Earnestly Seeking Him” *** The greatest indication of mankind’s potential value in Jehovah’s eyes is the provision of the ransom. The apostle John wrote: “God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) The provision of the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ runs counter to the very notion that we are worthless or unlovable in Jehovah’s eyes. Indeed, if Jehovah paid so high a price for us—offering his only-begotten Son—he must surely love us deeply. *** cl chap. 14 pp. 144-145 pars. 14-15 Jehovah Provides “a Ransom in Exchange for Many” *** To whom would that ransom be paid? Psalm 49:7 specifically says that the ransom is paid “to God.” But is not Jehovah the one who arranges for the ransom in the first place? Yes, but this does not reduce the ransom to a pointless, mechanical exchange—like taking money out of one pocket and putting it into another. It must be appreciated that the ransom is, not a physical exchange, but a legal transaction. By providing for the payment of the ransom, even at enormous cost to himself, Jehovah affirmed his unwavering adherence to his own perfect justice.—Genesis 22:7, 8, 11-13; Hebrews 11:17; James 1:17. In the spring of 33 C.E., Jesus Christ willingly submitted to an ordeal that led to the payment of the ransom. He allowed himself to be arrested on false charges, judged guilty, and nailed to a stake of execution. Was it really necessary for Jesus to suffer so much? Yes, because the issue of the integrity of God’s servants had to be settled. Significantly, God did not allow the infant Jesus to be killed by Herod. (Matthew 2:13-18) But when Jesus was an adult, he was able to withstand the brunt of Satan’s attacks with full comprehension of the issues. By remaining “loyal, guileless, undefiled, separated from the sinners” in spite of horrific treatment, Jesus proved with dramatic finality that Jehovah does have servants who remain faithful under trial. (Hebrews 7:26) No wonder, then, that at the moment before his death, Jesus cried out triumphantly: “It has been accomplished!”—John 19:30. *** w77 10/1 p. 586 par. 3 What the King Does for Us *** By his ransom sacrifice paid to Jehovah God, the Owner of all things, Jesus Christ owns the human race, to deal with each one according to God’s righteous purpose, until he eventually rehabilitates all obedient ones, completely reconciling them with God *** w74 6/15 p. 370 par. 8 ‘Living No Longer for Ourselves’ *** It is only those with an approved standing before the Creator who gain the full benefits of the ransom provision—permanent release from sin, sickness, old age and death. While all are invited to gain that approved standing, not all want to accept it because of the responsibility that is involved. Many do not want to act in harmony with the fact that a ransom or redemptive price has been paid in their behalf. They do not want to acknowledge that they have been bought and that Jehovah God and Jesus Christ are their rightful Owners or Masters, deserving of full obedience. All who persist in disobedience or who later renounce Jehovah God and Jesus Christ as their Owners lose out on the benefits of the ransom provision.—Matt. 10:33; John 3:36; Heb. 10:26, 27; 2 Pet. 2:1-3. *** gh chap. 13 p. 116 A Release from Death to Life *** A Release from Death to Life THE cruel wars of this twentieth century have resulted in many orphans. Imagine a family of orphans who have lost both parents. Without home or means of support, they are wandering destitute through life—hungry, sickly and without hope for the future. However, suppose a kindly gentleman takes note of their plight, and shows love toward them. He instructs his own son, who is unmarried, to befriend these orphans and to bring them into the home. There he cleans them up, feeds and clothes them, and pays off their debts. Becoming like a real father to them, the son raises them to enjoy a full life. Should not those orphans be thankful to the kindly gentleman and his son? Truly, they should thank them! Do you realize that you are a member of just such a family of orphans? Yes, for you are a descendant of Adam, the father of mankind, who through his own willful sin abandoned the entire human family to the miserable condition in which it finds itself today. Just like those orphaned children, we are “sold under sin,” inheriting this unhappy condition from Adam.—Romans 7:14. CANCELING THE DEBT OF SIN Just like the kindly gentleman’s son in our illustration, who paid off the debts of the orphaned family, Jesus could cancel the debt of sin that the human family had inherited from Adam. However, Jesus must first have on hand the value of his life, like “ready cash,” to pay that debt. He had to die as a human in order to release his right to human life for use elsewhere. To this end, he willingly submitted to a cruel death at the hands of God’s enemies. But these enemies could not take from him that right to human life. It became now like “cash” in his hands. When God had resurrected him “in the spirit” and he had ascended again into heaven, he still had that “cash” on hand to pay over to Jehovah as a “ransom.” Thus he could buy back what Adam lost—life for all Adam’s offspring.—1 Peter 3:18; Romans 3:24. As in the case of the orphaned family described earlier, Jesus, as God’s agent, took action to relieve mankind of their distressed state.
