  8. We're in good company, by design. "For you see his calling of you, brothers, that there are not many wise in a fleshly way, not many powerful, not many of noble birth, 27 but God chose the foolish things of the world to put the wise men to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world to put the strong things to shame; 28 and God chose the insignificant things of the world and the things looked down on, the things that are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 so that no one might boast in the sight of God." --- 1Cor. 1: 26-29 "Now when they beheld the outspokenness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were men unlettered and ordinary, they got to wondering. And they began to recognize about them that they used to be with Jesus; 14 and as they were looking at the man that had been cured standing with them, they had nothing to say in rebuttal." --- Acts 4:13, 14

  10. Anzhelika adds: “To me, the important thing is, not who left the garbage behind, but what I can do to remove it.” Lois, who is 78 years old, also joined the campaign. She says: “Instead of getting upset about the garbage when you go for a walk, it is better to pick it up and get rid of it.” What a great attitude. Getting mad doesn't contribute anything, but helping to clean it up certainly does. Imagine the scale of the clean-up we'll be doing during the 1000 year reign!

  15. Gog of Magog as spoken of in Ezekiel is a coalition of nations (most likely including Russia), but Daniel is speaking of the king of the north specifically which is quite different from GOM. I find it interesting that in the UN, Russia hasn't had anyone stand up support it yet. They're acting alone here.

  18. Many years ago I worked with a man named Jehovah - His last name was Godbolt .... I found it hard to call him by his name, especially since he used "bad" language and smoked marijuana His mother had taken all her children's names from the Bible - his older brother, who also worked for the same company, was named Northern - after the Norther Ten Tribes .... I forget what his sister's name was ... she was named after a river in the Bible

  20. Well this survey proves Jehovah's Witnesses really live their faith. Jesus message doesn't appeal primarily to the rich and powerful, he said that its easier for a camel to get through the eye of an needle than for a rich man to get into the kingdom. Having a lot of money therefore can be an challenge to spirituality. Jesus said to seek the kingdom first, so those with the potential to earn more may choose not to for spiritual reasons. Keeping ones life simple is not synonymous with getting into the top earning bracket. We live well on less. Thanks to the bible even with modest means Jehovah's people live surprsingly well, have clean comfortable homes, are well dressed (check out our pioneers and those in special service) and are often debt free. I could earn much more than I do, I'm sure that's true of many of us. I've even had employers beg me to go full time or seek an added qualification so they can employ me for a better post, outsiders may think that our being amongst the "poorest" means we are sad and needy, we can all testify how much Jehovah blesses us and keeps us when we put kingdom interests first. When the money is being thrown in the streets the blessings will continue to flow for us, its a shame there wasn't a question about that in their survey!

  24. I think this is interesting and potentially significant. I also think there's a lot more to come on this. I may be going out on a limb here but I personally believe Russia is the "King of the North". Not sure if that's the general consensus currently, but I've been of this opinion for some time and especially so in light of recent developments regarding our freedom of worship there (or lack of it). I'm particularly interested in Daniel's prophecy, chapter 11, verses 44 & 45 in particular. I can't help feel that what Russia has done by outlawing JW's in that country shows he has 'planted his royal tent between the grand sea (the general population) and the holy mountain of decoration (Jehovah's organisation)' effectively preventing anyone from attaching themselves to Jehovah's organisation in that country. He appears to have gone out in a 'great rage to annihilate and devote many to destruction'. The last part of verse 45 says 'he will come all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him'. If this is indeed the case, then the first verse of chapter 12 helps us to appreciate where we are in the stream of time, as it says: 'during that time Michael will stand up...in behalf of your people'. That being the case, the Great Tribulation may be upon us imminently! I'll definitely be watching this closely.

But especially spending time with her, which we haven’t done for far too long. I’m just not used to being waited on. Very hard to accept. Ross was great. I especially have a hard time because she has her own health issues and deals with that every day. Not lookng forward to finding out what they tell me they have to do...if anything. Time will tell.

  33. I have PDF copies of all the old material. Some of these I have made myself. You take a copy and either cut out the pages or fold them open very carefully, then place them on my scanner and scan them as a JPG photo. Then I convert them to PDF pages. Then I stitch them together with an app that combines PDFs. Other copies I have received from others. It varies. I have selected the best copies to keep (clearest, brightest, most readable). All of the Society's publications fit in a file of about 60 GB in size. I have a copy on my desktop computer and on my tablet for safekeeping. I have stored them by topic (books, brochures, tracts, etc.) I have categorized them by date (splitting them up into decades). I use the Publications Index to locate the correct material (1944 Watchtower, July 15, page page 410). It is not as easy as using the JW Library app or even the Watchtower Library DVD, but it includes items that are not reproduced in those formats.

  36. If you've been relying on Google for translation, you may want to give Microsoft / Bing translator another go: in recent years it has been using neural networks, AI, and machine learning to not only catch up to google, but for certain language pairs, actually beating out the big "G." Just this week a member of this forum from Mexico and I used Microsoft's "Translator Conversations" feature to instant message with each other, in two different languages, while each seeing the other's messages in our preferred one! (I have previously tested this chat feature with up to 4 people, none of whom knew any second language--microsoft does all the bridgework to cross the language barrier!) And today they announced their Chinese - English machine translation has now reached parity with human translators--wow! They've also partnered with smartphone maker Huawei, which makes a phone with a built-in AI-dedicated computer chip which allows offline translation that rivals the power of google's supercomputers. It's almost like a star trek-type universal translator that doesn't even need internet access. This could be useful for need-greaters I imagine. As lifehacker put it a year ago when they reviewed these two options side by side, "Google Offers More Languages, But Microsoft Chooses Quality Over Quantity" Microsoft Translator is available at Bing.com/translator and in the mobile apps for iOS and Android.

    JWTalk.net Changelog

Some email providers/programs are oversensitive about the rDNS entry pointing back to a different hostname than the originating email domain. If you have a CIDR block suballocation of your own, your host should be able to give each IP its own rDNS entries for each IP (some hosts even give you a self-serve form), though if your server has manually assigned static IPs out of your host's CIDR block, it'll probably be more trouble than it's worth.

That's your email program or browser flashing that warning. I don't know why it would though.

  45. Parts of "Heal the world" by Michael Jackson remind me of the truth: "...And The Dream We Were Conceived In Will Reveal A Joyful Face And The World We Once Believed In Will Shine Again In Grace Then Why Do We Keep Strangling Life Wound This Earth Crucify Its Soul Though It's Plain To See This World Is Heavenly Be God's Glow... In My Heart I Feel You Are Al My brothers Create A World With No Fear Together We'll Cry Happy Tears See The Nations Turn Their Swords Into Plowshares..."

  46. I don't know if this song has been mentioned or not but the Jackson 5 did a song a while ago called "Can You Feel It" - you'd swear Micheal wrote it when he was still in the Truth. Here are the lyrics, I especially like the line "and promising salvation is near this time": Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it! If you look around The whole world's coming together now. Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it! Feel it in the air The wind is taking it everywhere. Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it! All the colors of the world should be Lovin' each other wholeheartedly. Yes it's alright, take my message to your brother and tell him twice. Spread the word who tried to teach the man who is hatin' his brother, When hate won't do 'cause we're all the same Yes the blood inside of me is inside of you. Now tell me! Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it! Can you see what's going down, you can feel it in your bones Every breath you take, Is someone's death in another place. Every healthy smile, Is hunger and strife to another child. But the stars do shine And promising salvation is near this time. Can you feel it now, So brothers and sisters Shall we know how. Now tell me! Can you feel it, tell me can you feel it, can you feel it! Talk now can you see what's going down open up your mind. All the children of the world should be Lovin' each other wholeheartedly Yes it's alright Take my message to your brother and tell him twice. Take the news to the marchin' men Who are killin' their brothers, when death won't do. Yes we're all the same Yes the blood inside my veins is inside of you. Now tell me! Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it! Can you feel it, can you feel it, can you feel it!
