  1. A California family has been fined for holding weekly Bible studies in their home, meetings that are allegedly in violation of the city's zoning regulations. Stephanie and Chuck Fromm have been living in their San Juan Capistrano home for 18 years and were shocked when they received a notice of violation from the city. They have already been fined $300 and have been told they will be fined an additional $500 per meeting if they continue to meet without a Conditional Use Permit. http://abcnews.go.com/US/california-family-fined-bible-study-home/story?id=14582868

    Facebook - Birthday

What is interesting is that you can block your birthday so that it never shows up, and yet I see it over and over again with the pages of brothers and sisters, where worldly people are wishing them a happy birthday. And I have yet to see any response letting them know that they don't celebrate birthdays. So my question would be why allow people to see that in the first place?

  4. "Had to be removed" is probably a poor choice of words. It was removed under the direction of the FS. The chief writer of the book, Ray Franz, was asked to leave Bethel and was disfellowshipped shortly thereafter. He became apostate. Later the book itself was not received well by those that knew the background story and it was not referenced by many publications as a source of information on the book of James. Outside of studying it after it's release I have never felt a need to consult it again. Just assume it is outdated but feel free to read it if you so desire. It may contain a lot of good information but the FS has decided we don't need it in our library.

  5. Way prior to 2011 it became a court case of great magnitude for us living in the US. Did you ever wonder why the congregation book study arrangement was dropped and we now have a mid-week meeting? A number of years ago several cities had passed laws restricting scheduled meetings in private homes that interfered with neighborhood activities, mainly using up all the street parking available. One case involving a Baptist group that had a program similar to ours of having weekly Bible Studies in private homes. According to TIME magazine, the zoning law passed the test of not interfering with freedom of religion. I believe JWs were brought into this legal review as A FRIEND OF THE COURT, as we were the most known for meeting in homes on a scheduled basis. The state supreme court, Arizona or Colorado, I can’t remember which, found in favor of the City’s right to restrict such activity through zoning laws and did not find these laws were in violation of ‘freedom of religion’. Very shortly after this legal precedent was set, our organization abandoned the Congregation Bible Study arrangement in favor of a Family Worship Night. A similar situation took place when we discontinued requesting fixed contributions for our literature in the United States. The TV evangelist preacher Jimmy Lee Swaggart was charged with tax evasion due to the manner in which he carged for his recordings. He demanded a fixed contribution for his records claiming it was a non-profit arrangement. Our organization was brought in A FRIEND OF THE COURT as we were well known for requesting a fixed contribution for our literature and we were a non-profit organization. Swaggart had been demanding very large sums for his albums and discounting his profit as religious contributions. The courts found him in violation of the law and demanded back taxes. It was also noted that he ran a for-profit business under the guise of religion and the action by the courts was not in violation of Freedom Of Religion. Shortly thereafter we dropped our fixed contribution request for our literature. At that time this only affected the US Branch, not the Canadian Branch but shortly thereafter it became policy in all western Branches of JWs. Do you know why palm trees survive hurricanes? They bend with the wind and so do we if it does not interfere with our right to preach the good news.

UZBEKISTAN: TORTURE AND DEATH THREATS UNPUNISHED http://www.forum18.org/archive.php?article_id=2374 By Mushfig Bayram, Forum 18 In a test of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's newly-professed intent to ban torture and punish the perpetrators, Jehovah's Witness Anvar Tajiyev has been seeking redress since October 2017 for torture inflicted on him by police in Urgench in Khorezm Region. More than six months after the police torture, Tajiyev still suffers headaches and has lost hearing in one ear. We were outlandishly dressed, wearing black matching outfits with glittering red and silver dragons on the trouser legs and on the backs of our jackets, which still embarrasses us when we think about it. But we were kindly treated, and no one made remarks about our dress." --- g89 2/22 p.15 I was serving at Brooklyn Bethel the day they visited. It was lunch time and they had been invited to join the Bethel family for lunch in the main dining room. We were all assembled and waiting for one of the Governing Body to ask us to join in giving thanks, when they conspicuously walked in and all heads were turned. I remember the men quickly taking their hats off, and noticed their large afros and outlandish outfits. You could have heard a pin drop. After they finally made it to their seats, the chairman began with the prayer, and a brother at our table told us who they were, specifically Larry Graham. It was right up there with the day Katherine Jackson toured the factory buildings with Michael and Janet, and some of the young brothers tried to get Michael's autograph. It kind of shocked and disappointed Michael who was overheard saying to his mother, "I thought Jehovah's Witnesses were supposed to be different."

  9. Also the Watchtower Library update brings back the Greatest Man book. And the OD book is there as well. Both of these books are on the Online Library as well since it updated. I guess both are now in sync. As for the Choosing book, its still there, so nothing wrong with it. It was just the James book that had to be removed.

  10. I been reading a book "A Century OF Dishonor" By Helen Hunt Jackson 1881. The book is about failed treaties of the Indians. On page 106, it mentions about a family from the Nez Perce tribe. "The woman seated herself between her children. The Indian then bowed his head and prayed to God....calling on Jehovah in the name of Jesus Christ!...While eating, the frequent repetition of the words Jehovah and Jesus Christ,, in the most reverential manner..." Although the Nez Perce deprived of their teaching, there is a reason why. On pare 124, in the book gives an indication why. This issue was having schools on the Wallowa Reservation and Chief Joseph had a meeting with the commissioners. Here what it says: Com, "Why do you not want schools?" Joseph, "They will teach us to have churches?" Com, "Do you want churches?" Joseph, "No, we don not want churches." Com, "Why do you not want churches?" Joseph, They will teach us to quarrel about God, as the Catholics and Protestants do on the Nez Perce Reservation, and at others places. We do not want to learn that. We may quarrel with men sometimes about things on the earth, but we never quarrel about God. We do not want to learn that." I once read that .Crazy Horse did not except the doctrine of Hell Fire. It will be amazing to see those died be resssureted to learn the truth Acts. 24:14

  13. Ok guys. This thread really irks me. First of all the ONLY one that knows any of these things is Jehovah. He is the personification of love and compassion. Therefore No one has the right to say a person will not or may forfeit resurrection by this act. The act of suicide is the last ditch cry for help from a mind and heart that cannot fathom that there is anyone that cares to hear a physical scream. That mind is so far removed from reality with pain grief heartache and anguish of spirit mind and heart they can be said to be not in their right mind at all. What they want that no one can give is and end to the pain they are experiencing. they may not even know what is causing that pain they just want it to stop. There is no physical thing that can relieve it there is nothing anyone can do other than stop them and hold on till help arrives. I have not attempted this but I sure have thought about doing it. I was working in an 18 story apartment building and I was out on the balcony thinking about jumping. The only thing that kept me from climbing over the railing was what what my wife mom and sister would go through if I did it. I didn't think about jehovah what he would think of it or feel just them. That was when I went to my doctor for help. It took me over 15 years to get over that and figure out why I felt I needed to do that The whole I was in was so deep my wife couldn't stand to come home from work. I didn't realize it at the time. I stopped going to meetings because I couldn't stand to talk to anyone. It was 2 years before I went back. Even then it wa hit and miss. I eventually went to a counselor to get help for my issues. That along with antidepressants helped me the most. I have a lot of compassion for those that have emotional and mental depression problems. Elders do not have the tools to deal with this kind of trouble. No one should expect them to. A person with this kind of problem needs professional help. Of course friends can give loving help and support but they should not try to fix the person that is suffering. Most times it makes it worse. an elder should listen and really hear the person. Prayer should be offered but that is it. Counsel from the bible should be offered after very careful consideration along with its application. Showing scriptures showing Jehovah's love and caring may help but don't be surprised if it doesn't. If no one shows love to them how can they believe that Jehovah cares about them? Its a problem of self worth and self esteem. A person in this mind set cannot fathom even their mate could still love them. Even though their mate may be the most loving and caring person you know. Its in the person's head that is suffering. There is nothing you will be able to say to snap them out of it and to suggest that you might as well shoot them in the head. That is the effect you will have on them. If you see someone having a mental or emotional crisis tell them who you are and ask if you can help them. Call the crisis line and ask them to call 911. That is the best help that you can get for them at that time. Let the emergency people contact their family or whoever. Do this even if it is a Brother or Sister in the situation. To do anything else could lead them to more danger. Do not leave them alone period. Pray for wisdom compassion and clear thinking along with insight immediately. Then step in to help. That is the best advice and insight I can give anyone. The problem I had was over 25 years ago. I am far removed from it now. But I sure can give insight and love to anyone that has these types of problems.

Several times over the last few months I have seen/read of people laughing at humans because we open bananas at the stem end. “Chimps know best!” they say. “They open them from the other end!” Thinking that perhaps humans were the fourth most intelligent life form on earth rather than the third, I gave it a try. Well it’s rubbish! Chimps are stupid and we should be showing them how to do it properly. #rantOver #neverAgain

  17. A new Quake Alert APP that I have been waiting for, it is in Beta Phase and you can submit for the access to the APP when its ready, just have to go on the site and put in our email. https://earlywarninglabs.com/mobile-app/ Right now only few states have the sensors but they are being added as time goes on, So far California, Washington and Oregon have the sensors that are managed by USGS. The objective of an earthquake early warning system is to rapidly detect the initiation of an earthquake, estimate the level of ground shaking intensity to be expected, and issue a warning before significant ground shaking starts. A network of seismic sensors detects the first energy to radiate from an earthquake, the P-wave energy, and the location and the magnitude of the earthquake is rapidly determined. Then, the anticipated ground shaking across the region to be affected is estimated. The system can provide warning before the S-wave arrives, which brings the strong shaking that usually causes most of the damage. Warnings will be distributed to local and state public emergency response officials, critical infrastructure, private businesses, and the public. EEW systems have been successfully implemented in Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, and other nations with varying degrees of sophistication and coverage. Earthquake early warning can provide enough time to: Instruct students and employees to duck, cover, and hold Initiate mass notification procedures Open fire-house doors and notify local first responders Slow and stop trains and taxiing planes Install measures to prevent/limit additional cars from going on bridges, entering tunnels, and being on freeway overpasses before the shaking starts Move people away from dangerous machines or chemicals in work environments Shut down gas lines, water treatment plants, or nuclear reactors Automatically shut down and isolate industrial systems

  19. From new scientist April 28 2018 TREES aren't as sedate as they seem. Many move their branches up and down at night. The findings hint that the plants are pumping water upwards, and have a slow "pulse". "We've discovered that most trees have regular periodic changes in shape, synchronised across the whole plant and shorter than a day-night cycle, which imply periodic changes in water pressure," says András Zlinszky of Aarhus University in Denmark. In a 2017 study, Zlinszky and his colleagues used lasers to scan 22 tree species in windless, lightless conditions to see if the trees' canopies changed shape at night. In seven species, branches moved up and down by about a centimetre every 3 to 4 hours (Frontiers in Plant Science, doi.org/cnp8). Now Zlinszky and his colleague Anders Barfod at Aarhus have a possible explanation: trees have a "heartbeat", and pump water up from their roots in pulses that last hours. Previously it was thought that trees just wait for the evaporation of water from leaves to "pull" the water up. "No fluctuations with periods shorter than 24 hours are assumed or explained by current models," says Zlinszky. Moving the water up in stages may save energy, says Zlinszky. "If water is pumped between sections, only the hydrostatic pressure of an individual section would need to be overcome by transport, not the full pressure resulting from the height of the tree." It isn't clear how a tree might pump water upwards. Zlinszky and Barfod suggest that the trunk might gently squeeze the water, pushing it up through the xylem: a column of dead cells through which most water moves up the trunk (Plant Signaling and Behavior, doi.org/cnp9). They say this is supported by studies showing that tree trunks can shrink at night by 0.05 millimetres. "We suggest a so-far-unknown pumping mechanism," says Barfod. This article appeared in print under the headline "Trees have a hidden regular 'heartbeat'" Andy Coghlan

    Bill Cosby Convicted

https://www.allmusic.com/album/for-adults-only-mw0000691574 A Redd Foxx adult comedy album, sure, but Bill Cosby? That's right. For Adults Only isn't at all a record of foul-mouthed comedy, darn it! It is "for adults only" because it is about parenting, which the comedian believes is a job only done by, and only of interest to, adults. Isn't that so typically Bill Cosby? These live performances date from the early '70s, and the audience is, of course, the Las Vegas crowd. It was well before the rhythms of a television situation comedy took over the workings of this man's inner mind, so what you hear is still the bristling energy of a stand-up comic who had already mastered the question of timing as well as the medium of the phonograph record as a mode of communication with legions of fans. By sticking just to family humor, and once again, it is the subject being described and not the language, the comedian limits his subject matter to the point of narrowing the possible audience. It is also an area in which listeners may agree with what he is saying while at the same time lamenting that it is a subject that makes this comedian go a bit soft and sappy, resulting in less than his funniest material.

  29. Tuesday, May 1 The Ammonites were subdued.—Judg. 11:33. Jephthah realized that he would need God’s help to free Israel from the Ammonites. He promised Jehovah that if He gave him the victory, he would offer to Jehovah, as “a burnt offering,” the first one who came out of his house when he returned home from the battle. (Judg. 11:30, 31) What did that offering involve? The sacrificing of humans is something detestable to Jehovah. Thus, it is clear that Jephthah did not intend to sacrifice anyone literally. (Deut. 18:9, 10) Under the Mosaic Law, a burnt offering was given entirely to Jehovah, so Jephthah evidently meant that he would devote the person to the exclusive service of God. This promise implied permanent service at the tabernacle. Jehovah accepted Jephthah’s terms and blessed him with a resounding victory. (Judg. 11:32) When Jephthah returned from battle, who went out to meet him but his beloved daughter, his only child! Then came the test. Would he keep his word? w16.04 1:11-13

  31. This subject reminds me: I remember much earlier in the 2000's at a convention when it was said that at that time 20% of Jehovah's Witnesses in the United States were part of Spanish speaking congregations which would probably increase. This of course did not include congregations that were meeting in a number of other languages besides English, including American Sign Language as well as foreign languages. This was expected to increase as I'm sure it has. I believe that Spanish is still the largest foreign language group for congregations in the United States. But of course not the only one. Then there's American Sign Language that we use for those that are deaf and deaf and blind here in the United States. I know that in many countries there are foreign language groups as well as different sign language groups among us. These congregations and Bible Study Groups come in many different sizes. Some are considered big in comparison to other ones and yet others are much smaller as this post brings out. I just thought that I would share.

  33. Even chemical and or hormonal imbalances can throw some off from thinking properly, thus making them unable to think rationally enough to not commit suicide. That is why they may need help in the form of therapy and or medication. However!, these forms of help don't always keep working or never work at all. Even doctor's say some may need additional or different types of help from different forms of help. I know I've been told that even with medical doctors. So who knows why some can avoid fulfilling those impulses of committing suicide and others can't. We can't see the whole picture with our imperfect eyes of understanding, brains and simply imperfections. Jehovah and his son Jesus don't have such a limits. We don't have the right to say what may cause someone to commit suicide, what they will experience after this life. Imho! For one thing, these people already have low opinions of themselves from whatever causes and may thereby, go ahead and do it because if they already feel the lowest of hope, that will take away any amount left, and may make them go ahead and commit suicide. We are not mental health professionals. Even so what works for one does not work for all. We don't know people DNAs make-up and the F S, have told us not to recommended any health recommendations whether they be medical or mental.

I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving round town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does everyday.I also listen to their conversations, give them the “thumbs up” and tell them I like them. 42. I believe in this report it was mentioned since that heatwave in 2016 a further 30% of corals had died. Here’s a quote from this site i read of what happens when the reefs die out. https://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/what-if/what-if-all-coral-reefs-disappeared.htm So what happens if the coral reefs vanish completely? Some experts predict hunger, poverty and political instability as the livelihoods of the peoples of entire countries disappear. Once the coral is dead, the reefs will also die and erode, destroying important marine life spawning and feeding grounds. Animals that rely on coral for protection and cover, such as grouper, snapper, oysters and clams, would also be negatively impacted. And because this marine life is a vital staple in many peoples' diets, the death of the coral reefs would exacerbate the problem of feeding these groups

    Un-United Nations

On the subject of the United Nations, a new scandal is emerging in German-speaking countries concerning an event that happened in 2012 in the Golan Heights, where a group of Austrian soldiers - part of a United Nations peacekeeping effort - observed terrorists establishing an ambush with machine guns in preparation for Syrian police and soldiers, and not much later waved through a Syrian patrol of nine men without warning them about the ambush. On the video, it can be heard how Austrian soldiers discuss whether it isn't their responsibility to warn the Syrian forces of the set trap. One soldier notes that if they let them pass one of them were to survive, he would come back to shoot them out of revenge. The Austrian UN-troops don't seem comfortable, and yet somewhat passive, as they observe the Syrian patrol get gunned down. In the meantime, Austria hastily pulled out of Golan in 2013 https://www.reuters.com/article/us-syria-crisis-idUSBRE9530VE20130606 Now, what's really interesting is that in the meantime, the Austrian soldiers are being accused of being accessories to murder, while one of the former soldiers claims they were "just following orders", meaning they had orders from the top not to get involved in any way or means, even by warning the Syrian patrol. Interestingly, these orders will not have come from the Austrian ministry of defense, but more likely from a United Nations command post. So, once again, the UN has given even more people the impression that it is utterly pointless and useless. Again, I can't figure this one out. A wild beast, a beast soon to ravage the harlot, but how, without any teeth? What am I missing here?

    A Question Of Faith

There was a great spot on us on Spanish TV in the Extremadura region called "Cuestión de fe", dated 17/04/18 (17th April 2018). It formed part of a program analysing the different religions in the region. One elder, Josué de Andrés is the spokesman for the congregation in Badajoz and for those beard lovers amongst us, you will be pleased to know he was sporting his beard on national TV, all approved by Bethel obviously. It is in Spanish so sorry if you don't understand it. Maybe Carlos has time to translate! It's a great witness anyway. Enjoy!
