"Now On Earth" A Book By Thomas Walker

Strictly speaking, we probably wouldn't, but that's also kind of the point. When Toasting was a custom, it was a way to offer tribute to someone. A toast in the 1600's was a pledge to a royal, or a leader. It's 400 years later today, and it's become part of the vernacular. Not a pledge or tribute, or an offer of any kind; merely an action to commemorate the moment by drawing attention to it. In the New World, will it still exist? In the book, I made the point that the Pyramids were gone. To us, they're tourist attractions, but they started as Temple/Tombs to honor a Pharaoh. So they went. Even if we all agree there's no significance to it beyond saying a kind word, would toasting still happen? I don't know, but the whole point of NOE is to ask the question: How much do we keep, and how much do we throw away? A question that is focused on when talking about the names of planets in the Solar System, and the months on the calendar.3 points -

At the beach. We are here with the carts. We have 5 cruise ships coming in this month too. 32 ships between now and 2019. Below is a pic from the last ship that was here in May. We have had the Queen Mary 2 drop anchor as well. It is too shallow here for the big ships, so they anchor about 5 mile out in the deep, and use 'Tenders' to bring the passengers ashore. About a 20min ride. The small cruise ships have 2, 000 pax, the big ships 5,000 pax (plus crew)! We meet lots of friends visiting from all over the world. jw-russia.org: Oblava and arrests in Tomsk On the morning of June 3, 2018, a round-up of religious repressions was held in Tomsk. Interrogations lasted until 2 am. Arrested and sent to IVS 48-year-old Sergei Klimov. On Sunday at about 10:00 am, law enforcement officers, including special forces soldiers, invaded a number of houses where believers live. About 30 people were gathered in a bus and taken for interrogation to the Center for Combating Extremism. Among the detainees was an 83-year-old woman. It is known that during the day several ambulances came to the building where the interrogation was conducted, one person was hospitalized.3 points -

"Now On Earth" A Book By Thomas Walker
Hope and one other reacted to Thomas Walker for a topic
While I've got everyone here, you mind if I ask for feedback on something? In JSY, I had unmarried pairs spending time together unsupervised. At first it was purely as a storytelling device. I find that male/female interactions have good rhythm; even platonically. But after that, it became a useful plot point. I made a reference to the fact that in the New World we're never 'unsupervised', ever; but it wasn't a major deal. In one or two cases, it was a prelude to a romance, in some cases it was to ask a question, like Rachel and Kevin asking 'what about when a marriage mate comes back from the dead centuries later'; and in some cases; it was to close the gender gap, and the generation gap simultaneously; like when a man from the 1300's has trouble with the idea of a woman professor. I'm currently writing the third book, and I seem to have fallen into the same pattern; but based on personality conflicts rather than academic or social ones. I wanted to let you guys know not to read anything into it. Nobody behaves inappropriately in the books, but if it was happening today; it would raise a few eyebrows. In the New World Series according to my books, a person is met and taught by whoever has the best chance of getting through to them, for any reason; totally independent of gender or marital status. I'm not pairing up my characters; I'm building mentor/ee relationships that don't fit into the rules of a world that doesn't exist anymore. I just wanted to make sure everyone was okay with this point. Because if it's going to cause some consternation, I'd have to make a few alterations.2 points -

Altho this pic is the afghan I made for Ross, I just completed another one this morning of the exact same pattern and colors for my spiritual mom. I’m bringing it this afternoon as I’m going for a visit as well. She doesn’t know anything about it so it’s going to be a big surprise. As she was fixing the strings on Ross’ afghan she said, ”O I wish I had the money for the yarn it’s so beautiful.” Hence the next project was born. Now I have plans to make another one for a sweet sister as well. Just gotta get the yarn.2 points

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-44350974 A mix of red-hot rock and gas, known as a pyroclastic flow, rushed down the mountainside and engulfed villages. Unlike slow-moving lava, which people may be able to escape from on foot, pyroclastic flows can reach extremely high speeds. Wikipedia: A pyroclastic flow (also known as a pyroclastic density current or a pyroclastic cloud)[1] is a fast-moving current of hot gas and volcanic matter (collectively known as tephra) that moves away from a volcano reaching speeds of up to 700 km/h (430 mph).[2] The gases can reach temperatures of about 1,000 °C (1,830 °F).2 points

BREAKING NEWS | Supreme Court of Canada Rules in Favor of Jehovah’s Witnesses
minister159 and one other reacted to Old for a topic
It is not unusual for an intervener to request to be heard by the court "In law, intervention is a procedure to allow a nonparty, called intervenor (also spelled intervener) to join ongoing litigation, either as a matter of right or at the discretion of the court, without the permission of the original litigants. The basic rationale for intervention is that a judgment in a particular case may affect the rights of nonparties, who ideally should have the right to be heard. " Our organization has appeared as a "friend f the court" (in US courts the term applied is Amicus Curiae) on specific cases where the decision of the court could have bearing on the functions of our organization. In one such case, the evangelist Jimmie Swaggart was being prosecuted for claiming the commercial side of his ministry was receiving large cash 'donations' to purchase Swaggarts music and sermon LP albums, in the form of a designated high price. Since our organization had set the modern groundwork for requesting a fixed contribution "These latest issues of the WT and Awake can be yours for a contribution of just 10 cents," a practice that had stood up in lower courts over many years, it had a direct bearing on how we carry on our work. In the Swaggart case, the court found Swaggart guilty of tax evasion, a decision that put our asking a fixed contribution at the door into legal jeopardy.2 points -
This is, I am sure, one of the reasons why the F&DS are at the moment putting so much emphasis on keeping the worldwide congregations close, clean and harmonious. The time will soon come when we will need to rely on one another and stick together like glue on both spiritual and physical levels. It will be no time for anyone to be a reclusive little island! When under attack, there is always strength in numbers and unity of purpose. When we truely regard each other as brothers and sisters, there should be nothing we won’t give or share to help out a fellow family member in hard times. ( That’s also why we are encouraged to practice this now, by looking around our congregations and offering to do what we can to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Pioneers especially, often have a hard time making ends meet.)2 points

We are paying $3.59 a gallon for gas. The cheap gas. I keep telling myself, “be glad that you can at least buy the gas.”. It is available, and, ar this point, I have the money for it. Same for food. The tariff thing. I’m asking myself if this is the same man who pushed through that pipeline? That comes from Canada, I think. It’s more then I can think about.1 point

Yes, l did watch that program. What i got out of it was what our Brothers said, we follow the laws. Seriously I know of no one who if they had an abused child who would not go to a Doctor, then to the Police, and also the Elders for help. Its just mother bear instinct. I am an abuse survivor from the world, not my Spiritual Family. Im glad to be prepared if this comes up in the Ministry.1 point

Monday, June 4 A man prone to anger stirs up strife; anyone disposed to rage commits many transgressions.—Prov. 29:22. The world abounds with people and societies motivated by a spirit of independence that fosters pride, egotism, and rivalry. Anyone who allows himself to be swept along by this spirit is, in effect, accepting Satan’s argument that it is the course of wisdom to pursue one’s own interests regardless of how doing so may affect others. (Gen. 3:1-5) Such a selfish course leads to strife. In contrast, Jesus taught people to seek peace, even if such a course would seem detrimental to their own interests. In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gave excellent advice about handling disagreements or potential conflicts. For instance, he urged his disciples to be mild-tempered, to be peacemakers, to eliminate causes for anger, to settle matters quickly, and to love their enemies.—Matt. 5:5, 9, 22, 25, 44. w16.05 1:4, 51 point

I remember when the economy collapsed back in 2008, many people were thinking the end was near because things were so bad. @trottigy would state that things would have to get better first, or else how could the world have this feeling of 'peace and security'. He was right, and here we are with a booming economy. The US and China have the biggest powerhouse economies on the planet if I recall correctly. This isn't likely to change. I don't expect another major economic meltdown before the end myself. I think we're at the end and world events are leading up to those final moments of this system of things. Things will appear all hunky-dory until Jehovah exercises judgment against false religion, and *then* things go bonkers.1 point -
