  7. Fire is a chemical reaction that releases light and heat. The ancient Greeks amazingly started fire with concentrated sunlight. A parabolic mirror that focuses solar rays is still used to ignite the Olympic torch. Amazing fact is earth is the only known planet where fire can burn. Everywhere else you don’t find enough oxygen for fire to occur. Fire triangle represents the three components that fires need to exist: heat, oxygen and fuel. Fire is extinguished when one of these components is missing. Fact is oxygen supply influences the color of the flame. A low oxygen fire gives off a yellow glow. A high oxygen fire burns blue. Candle flames are blue at the bottom because that’s where they take up fresh air, and yellow at the top because the rising fumes from below partly suffocate the upper part of the flame. Amazing fact is fire can make water. Place a cold spoon over a candle and you will observe the water vapor condense on the metal. Wax contains hydrogen which combines with oxygen to make water. Assuming stable fuel, heat and oxygen levels, a typical house fire will amazingly double in size every minute. Fire is faster than generally thought as it takes less than thirty seconds for a fire to become very difficult to control. A candle flame typically burns at around 1000 degrees Celsius (1800 Fahrenheit). Amazing fact is that more people die from smoke inhalation than flames. Fire can suck all of the oxygen from a room and fill it with poisonous smoke and gases before flames even reach a room. During wildfires it’s amazing that trees can explode if water deep inside the tree quickly turns to steam. The heat from a fire alone is enough to kill. It can get as hot as 315 degrees Celsius at eye level , hot enough to scorch your lungs if you breathe it in and to melt the clothes you’re wearing into your skin. If you’re in a burning house, you might not be able to see. It can be pitch black because of the dark smoke. Amazingly you might not be able to find the exit in fire even if you’ve lived there for years since smoke can be extremely disorienting. Memorize your escape plan beforehand and practice it blindfolded. Air is 21 percent oxygen which combines with acetylene and you get an oxyacetylene welding torch that burns at over 5500 degrees Fahrenheit, the hottest fire you encounter. A gallon of gasoline has the explosive potential of 30 sticks of dynamite. Amazingly you can start a fire with ice. At 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit, unprotected steel may collapse under its own weight during fire. Amazing fact is that forest fires move faster uphill than downhill! The steeper the slope, the faster the fire travels. Once a forest fire begins, it can spread at an amazing rate of up to 15 miles per hour, consuming everything in its path. On 13 August 2012 scientists at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, Geneva, Switzerland, announced that they had achieved the Highest Manmade Temperature of over 5 trillion K and perhaps as high as 5.5 trillion K , more than 300,000 times hotter than the center of the sun. When John Walker used a stick to stir a pot containing antimony sulfide, potassium chlorate & sulfur, some of the mixture stuck to the end of the stick. When the lump was scraped , it caught fire which led to the birth of match sticks. Fire extinguishers control fires by discharging water, foams, carbon dioxide, dry chemicals or other substances. No one knows who invented the fire hydrant, because its patent was destroyed in a fire. A single fire hydrant in San Francisco survived a massive earthquake in 1906 and aided fire fighters in saving the Mission district. The hydrant was painted gold in memory of the event. Walt Disney World is the largest consumer of fireworks in the United States launching the fireworks with compressed air instead of gunpowder to reduce fumes and gain better height and timing. There’s a bush called dictamnus albus which secretes a flammable, oily substance which can be lit on fire, without burning the bush itself. Amazingly cotton will catch on fire if super glue is applied to it. More than 80 percent of all wildfires are started by humans. The most common cause of fire deaths is cooking fires , the risk emanating from kitchen. Two of every five home fires started in the kitchen. In the great fire of London in 1666, 80 % of London was burnt down but only 6 people were injured. It burned out of control for 5 days and destroyed 13,000 homes and 87 churches. Great fire of London also ended bubonic plague epidemic that had killed 65000 people as rats and fleas were fried. A natural gas vent in Iraq known as The Eternal Fire has been burning continuously for over 4,000 years A coal seam about 140 miles north of Sydney, Australia, has been amazingly burning for thousands of years. America’s deadliest fire took place in 1865, aboard the steamship Sultana when the boilers exploded. The ship was six times over capacity mostly carrying prisoners released recently. The death toll was amazing 1,547. During WWII, Japan actually sent 9000 “fire balloons” towards North America to cause damage . About thousand of them actually hit land and killed 6 people. The Cairo opera house was destroyed by fire in 1970. Amazing thing was it also housed Cairo fire station. Fire houses have spiral staircases because the horses that used to pull the fire wagons learned to walk up straight ones. Ashtrays are compulsorily required on every commercial airplane because 123 people died on a flight in 1973 when a lit cigarette caught fire in a lavatory waste bin. On August 19, 1980, a Saudi Arabian Airlines Flight carrying 301 people caught fire shortly after takeoff. The plane landed safely but when the ground crew opened the doors, everyone was already dead due to poisonous gases.. In 1985, Philadelphia police used a helicopter to drop two bombs on a house during an armed standoff which resulted in a fire that killed 11 and destroyed 60 homes. The Black Dragon Fire of 1987, the largest wildfire in modern times, burned some 20 million acres across China and the Soviet Union, an area about the size of South Carolina. A fire in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 2002 killed 15 school girls . They were not allowed to leave the burning building by the state’s religious police because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress. In 2004, over 300 people died in a supermarket fire in Asunción, Paraguay because the owners shut the doors so that people wouldn’t leave without paying.

  8. Oh, please don't rely on Google. Your English is perfectly understandable, Victoria. (I find your English better than some native English speakers here!) I always appreciate the efforts of those non-English brothers and sisters who participate on this site. If a non-English brother or sister visits my congregation, I would like to hear their English, not a comment that's taken out of Google. We used to have a brother from Moldova in our congregation. His native language is Romanian, but he and his family also speak Russian fluently. His English was perfectly good, so he had no problem giving comments. But his mom, who still lives in Moldova, speaks barely any English. Whenever she visited Canada and came to our congregation, she wanted to participate in the meetings. So she would give a comment in Russian (we have a couple of Russian-speaking sisters here), then her son would translate it into English for the rest of us. It was always a delight when she visited. But there was once she surprised us and gave a short comment in English! (She must have had some coaching from her son beforehand.) That was so encouraging to hear that effort! We appreciate your effort here too.

Like the bible tells. The suffering is only increasing, for example the children in syria, yemen; they are dying. Many are dying without food even though the whole world have the resources to feed everyone. But, unfortunately no one in this world will care, they will support this rule of Satan. But, we can be happy that we are not supporting this; this brutality by negligence of the powerful. Be happy that we are people of Jehovah and that He selected us from this garbage world.

  11. I am sure it's OK to use Google translate for the letters of encouragement for our brothers. I believe it's better to use short simple phrases. As for the Bible verses you can copy them from the Russian Bible.(Maybe it's better not to use NWT) I am afraid it is the only way for those brothers to read the Bible. So I am sure the best way to help them is to send them encouraging passages of the Bible. And pray so that the letters are given to them. Another idea is to send pictures of some Bible accounts.

  15. Saturday, June 16 [God’s] invisible qualities are clearly seen . . . They are perceived by the things made.—Rom. 1:20. “To perceive” means to recognize something that may not be immediately visible or obvious. (Heb. 11:3) Perceptive people, therefore, use their mind, not just their eyes and ears. Jehovah’s organization has supplied many well-researched aids to help us. These can enable us ‘to see’ our Creator through our eyes of faith. (Heb. 11:27) These aids include the video The Wonders of Creation Reveal God’s Glory, the brochures Was Life Created? and The Origin of Life—Five Questions Worth Asking, and the book Is There a Creator Who Cares About You? Awake! has often presented interviews with scientists and others who have explained why they now believe in God. The series of articles called “Was It Designed?” has highlighted examples of the amazing design that we see in nature. Scientists often strive to imitate those wonderful designs. w16.09 4:4, 5

  18. Well Greg, I agree that Russia is acting very much as we would expect from the KOTN but the Slave has said (and I agree) that we may not actually be able to say for sure who the King of the North is until he finally attacks. Jehovah is full of surprises and I have no doubt there will be a final twist in affairs... so we will just have to see how the current events play out.

  20. Sister Linda/Loopy and I have attended Conventions twice in Tuscon...back in the 1990's. It was really awesome!!! We could pick fresh oranges right from our hotel balcony. Between sessions, we got to visit the Desert Museum, and Nogales, Mexico. Much of Old Tuscon had just been wiped out by a fire, so we didn't get to see a whole lot there. Witnessed to our tour guide all the way to the border and back and picked up some super souvenirs: A colorful plaster parrot on a perch, a silver necklace for my Mom, a poncho, a marionette, and a big bottle of pure vanilla.

I’m just beyond. We all know Satan has no mercy. And, making children a target, beyond comprehension. Jehovah brought Noah’s generation to an end because of violence. Can’t be long now. News is on now. Like nightmare stuff. It used to me sick to ear the reports, daily of deaths during the Vietnam war. Today, it is the same, with no formal wars going on in this country, anyway. Yet, deaths, and more deaths. Horrendous.

  22. "Public" generally means government-owned or government funded. In this case, the school asked for official government endorsement (along with the tax dollars it brings), and they were turned down. The school was not banned from enforcing their rules, they were only told that they could not use tax dollars to promote their message. Since we do not ask for special use of public spaces, seek government endorsement, or spend government dollars, this should have no effect on our preaching activity whatsoever.

  24. Restriction that will affect us ... is the limit of religous practices in public places and the expectation on students to accept the position of others lifestyles that conflict with the scriptures certainly make it harder. I get that. But isn't this going in the direction we need it to though? We all know it's going to get harder before things get better, and for some MUCH harder. It's going against the UN Charter ... but it wouldn't take much for the UN to change the charter.

  27. Its interesting that Rom 1:20 refers to Gods "invisible qualities are clearly seen". Paul referred to qualities rather than Jehovah's power, love, justice and wisdom specifically. Satan has limited power, justifies his own course, wisely plots his own agenda and loves himself, as do the demons. Their qualities are used in a far different way from those of Jehovah. The current world shows visibly their qualities. It takes perception and meditation on creation itself, along with biblical knowledge to equate Jehovah's qualities with His cardinal attributes, and then have that knowledge draw us toward pleasing and loving our Creator. Just my thoughts....

  29. I'm so senile, I can't remember if I've posted this, or not. But that's not the joke. This is: This is the tale of a woman...reading a book. One morning her husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the woman decides to take their boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and continues to read her book. Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you doing?" "Reading a book," she replies, (thinking "Isn't it obvious?") "You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her. "I'm sorry, officer. But I'm not fishing, I'm reading." "Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up." "If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault." "But I haven't even touched you!" "That's true," says the woman, "But, you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment." "Have a nice day ma'am", the warden replies and leaves the woman to her reading.

  31. The article talks about being against Canadian Charter rights you are correct, but will end up in the UN I'm sure. I just don't understand the concern ... we take our instructions from Jehovah and the slave, all this indicates is it's marching to the tune of prophecy and Jehovah is in the drivers seat. (Or at least will be when his time is right). We need to focus on the kingdom not get too concerned about the storms around us even if they look scary. Its good to hear these news articles because the result is us unifying with our Brothers and Sisters, and consolidating our trust in Jehovah. Thank you for sharing.

  32. https://www.jw.org/en/news/jw/region/cuba/plane-crash-20180607/ Witness Family Dies in Plane Crash in Cuba On Friday, May 18, 2018, a Boeing 737 crashed shortly after takeoff from Havana, Cuba. Of the 113 people on board, only one person survived, making this the country’s worst airline accident in many years. Sadly, included in the death toll was a family of three of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a father, mother, and 22-year-old son), who were active, beloved members of their congregation in Cuba. A funeral was held for the family on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Along with the emotional and spiritual support that is being provided by the local elders to the friends and family of the victims, local authorities have also kindly offered practical assistance. We are confident that Jehovah will continue to bring ‘comfort to all who mourn’ during this difficult time.—Isaiah 61:1, 2.

  34. Its really disgusting. They will come to their end in Jehovah's due time. We can sense that something is happening. Its like the world has turned sideways. Everyone in the world can sense something is wrong but they can't put their finger on it. Its like they see the picture and its out of focus. They can sense that the car is drifting off the road and can't grab the steering wheel. This Russian situation is one more thing to push it over the edge.

  47. I don't expect this to let up. This is the beginning of the final attack on God's people by the King of the North. Daniel's prophecy was chugging along until 1989 when the Soviet Union collapsed, leaving only 2 verses left unfulfilled - Daniel 11:44-45. That's a 27 year gap, which was great since it opened the door to preach the good news in those areas. But that door is shut, and things are moving forward again.
