    Bible Teachings

There are some great tools for us on jw.org Sometimes I forget about the section "Bible Teachings". We should all explore this section every now and again. For example: look at all the good info in "Science & the Bible"

  3. The conversation has ran it's course and we've drifted away from the original topic. There are numerous scientific questions we are all eager to have answered in the New System. Life before the Flood, the Flood mechanisms, and how life migrated after the Flood are close to the top of that list. There are many theories and opinions that we must keep in balance until we can get those answers. Thank you all for your participation.

  9. Lyrics to the July JW Broadcast song: (compliments of Brother Chew) I'm Not Alone Abandoned and betrayed, Forsaken and alone, Despair my one companion, My heart within me like a stone With no one here for me, No kindly word of care, Who’ll offer consolation? My heavy burden, who can share? I’m not alone; I never was. I’ll never be, And all because Jehovah knows; Jehovah sees. He hears my prayer; He’s here with me. Whatever comes my way, I’m never alone. Whatever I may lose By sticking close to you, No matter who may fail me, I know you’ll never be untrue. You’re close to me, O God, And never far away. My faith, my hope, reliance? — I know you never will betray. I’m not alone; I never was. I’ll never be, And all because Jehovah knows; Jehovah sees. He hears my prayer; He’s here with me. Whatever comes my way, I’m never alone. I never was. I’ll never be, And all because Jehovah knows; Jehovah sees. He hears my prayer; He’s here with me. Whatever comes my way, I’m never alone. I most of all love the prospects of a New World where I can enjoy all these things except "old people". What a wonderful father we have. Nice topic.

  26. Thank you. I hope it is. Between Christmas and the 4th....I hope it is. I would leave town even if I didn’t have Sophie. Maybe not quite so early but I would definitely get out of Dodge. Because I had the brother’s truck I didn’t go down the highway from the Holiday to my spot I “camp” out (in my truck) as we don’t hear the booms like at the Holiday. ☹️☹️☹️☹️ So Sophie was just a little scared. speaking of which some donkey 🦓 hasn’t had enough fireworks 💥 and has set off 3 of very loud booms at 12:40 am. Grrrr! 😡😡😡😡😡 Sophie just ran upstairs. Grrrrr! This is one time I’d love to Box people ears.

  27. Hi Greg, I was thinking about an illustration but it may not be exactly what you were looking for. But I will share it with you anyway and maybe it can help with some ideas for the kind of illustration you are looking for. Throughout all of history, people from every society have went out sailing on the ocean. But no matter their culture, language, race, they all have 1 thing in common, they are inclined to ask: "I wonder what is below the surface?" Similarly, throughout all of history, people from every society have been inclined to search for the "deeper" meaning of life, a spiritual search for a higher power, Creator, God. These spiritual desires have started many religions, and therefore religion has been an intricate part of every society.

  31. If I may offer my humble view of 'religion' - take this word down to its brass tacks Greg and follow what Rudyard Kipling says: "I keep six honest serving men: They taught me all I knew: Their names ar What and Why and When and How and Where and Who." (example used in this months broadcasting) So let's take religion on an interesting journey: What is religion? Religion is the putting first of something in your life ... ie: Money could become your religion Sports Or Religion based on the scriptures or other creeds. Why? Because fundamentally, mankind either consciously or subconsciously recognizes that they have a spiritual need, so spend time fulfilling that need either with valid or invalid pursuits. When? When something moves their heart to the point they become passionate, it may not always be tangible or reasonable, but it is something that adds depth to their lives and gives some meaning. How? By how they dedicate their money, their possessions and their time, conveys what becomes their religion. Where? Where they find like minded ones who have developed the same passion, usually if the foundation of their 'religion' is weak, they will bounce from one religion to another. Being in a world controlled by Satan, often their hearts are trained towards patriotism to the point of religious fervor. They may not call it religious, but it is no different to the fervor one shows towards Jehovah, when considering the basics. Who? Because mankind has a limited knowledge on a wide range of subjects, it doesn't take much for someone to come along and seemingly answer their unanswered questions, and even seem miraculous as in the events of cults. Iconic sports stars evoke worship and adoration and truly become their whole core of somethiing that seems to make sense to them. Rudyard Kipling also said something else very intersting: "If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten" So religion for people tell a story that appeals to their hearts, their ideals. The Idol series for instance ... uses stories to appeal to the audience of contestants who have had a hard luck story almost like they are creating a 'god' who has their respect and if successful possibly even their worship. So Greg, you could concentrate on the conventional view of religion and base it on historical religions that were often used to consolidate Kings and Queens and hold the common people in captivity ... or you could concentrate on the wider definition where idols can creep in to lives of even those who vehemently despise 'religious' people.

  33. It's speculated Moses had access to Noah’s logs. https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2003361 WHILE giving the prophecy about the sign of his presence and of the conclusion of the system of things, Jesus said: “Just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be.” (Matthew 24:3, 37) Clearly, Jesus foretold that what is happening in our day has a parallel in Noah’s time. A reliable and accurate account of the events of Noah’s day can prove to be an invaluable treasure. Is Noah’s log such a treasure? Does it have the marks of a true historical document? Can we really determine when the Flood occurred?

  35. Noah did not write Genesis, Moses did many years after the flood under the direction of Jehovah’s Holy Spirit. 1. It was Jehovah that guided the animals to the ark. 2. It was Jehovah that caused the flood 3. It was Jehovah’s will that they swarm out after the flood to the whole earth (Gen 8:17) 4. It was Jehovah that said he would “wipe from the surface of the ground every living thing that I have made” 5. It was Jehovah that had recorded that every breathing creature perished (Gen 7:23) I have not seen anything to the contrary that would prove this didn’t happen as is plainly stated in the Genesis account. There are viable explanations for the repopulation of the planet of various animals even in Australia and New Zealand. I see no reason to confuse ourselves by getting an explanation that disagrees with what the bible says or trying to explain clear bible sentences to fit with my own interpretation of scientific evidence. To me that is pointless and not really in any bodies interest.
    2 points
  36. Wm, you keep trying to twist what the Bible says to fit so-called "science". You won't be able to for the most part.. Because science is man's thoughts and the Bible is God's.
    2 points
  37. And this is the problem. The available evidence. The available evidence is not enough to support your theories, either. If it was, the scientific community would be in agreement with your findings. They aren't. Your theories, while they may be correct, are still just unproven theories. I've stated before that I find your hypothesis on the mechanisms used to cause the Flood intriguing. That doesn't change the fact it's still just a hypothesis. It's just your opinion and it's an opinion not shared by many in the scientific arena. The available evidence the scientific community uses simply is not enough to support the Biblical account. Scientists reject the Bible. They do not support it and go to great lengths to discount the Flood as merely myth, legend, or a localized event exaggerated out of proportion.

  38. See the thing is the bible says Gen 7:23 So He wiped every living thing from the surface of the earth, including man, animals, creeping animals, and the flying creatures of the sky. They were all wiped off the earth; only Noah and those with him in the ark survived. You are right it is only talking about land And flying animals here but after talking about these types of animals it says only Noah and the animals on the ark survived. The bible does not say only Noah and those with him in the ark survived (and also a few other animals that escaped on drifting things) The bible is quite clear and unambiguous about the account. Is it too much to think that divine intervention was involved afterwards? After all the whole flood account was an act of divine intervention. This would fit with the bible account more closely and the faithful slaves thoughts on the matter. Anything contrary disagrees with the bible and our publications which is a dangerous road to go down.

  39. Thursday, July 5 Brothers, continue to rejoice, to be readjusted, to be comforted, to think in agreement, to live peaceably.—2 Cor. 13:11. Continued effort is required in order “to be readjusted” and manifest “the new personality.” Paul reminded fellow believers: “You were taught to put away the old personality that conforms to your former course of conduct and that is being corrupted according to its deceptive desires. And you should continue to be made new in your dominant mental attitude, and should put on the new personality that was created according to God’s will in true righteousness and loyalty.” (Eph. 4:22-24) The expression “continue to be made new” indicates that putting on the new personality is an ongoing process. This is encouraging, for it assures us that regardless of how long we have been serving Jehovah, we can keep making progress in cultivating and refining the Christian qualities that make up the new personality. Yes, the Bible can continue to change our life. w16.05 4:8, 9

  40. I'm with Doug on music 🎼🎵🎶 Hmmm Idk if I have a favorite single creation. I have a lot of favorites more in how things are made. Math and physics are comforting. I don't understand a lot of it, but it's a comfort to know that what's true on earth is true on the other side of the universe; if, hypotethically, there were life on the other side of the universe, many of the same rules would apply to it. The existence of color and how it works. The way chemicals and elements are, the way DNA is, and how everything is data that can be interacted with. The way the human brain is made so that we can interact with things. I mean, humans have messed up a lot of things on earth, but....we also made a movie by moving individual atoms. That kinda blows me away. We can manipulate tiny little things that without the aid of technology, you couldn't see.
