    How do you button?

Just thought I would mention .... we just had our RC last weekend. I am not one who takes a lot of pictures during the meeting and/or the Brothers giving their parts so I do not have any pictures to post. That said, I can tell you, we DID have some Brothers give parts on the platform who DID NOT have their coats buttoned.

    How do you button?

My Brother gave a talk on the TMS (when we still had that) and he was wearing his cowboy boots (they were clean and shiny). After the meeting he was told by the TMS Overseer that, if he wanted to give another talk, NO MORE COWBOY BOOTS! He said they were not to be worn on the platform. A few weeks later we had the visit of the CO - it was the first visit with our new CO - he was wearing cowboy boots So, I guess the point is, if you cannot show the direction is from the FDS (you know, in writing) it simply becomes "personal opinion". As to bare knees - I have seen plenty of them at the meetings and on the platform .... and no comments were made about them not being allowed

  11. To answer a few of your questions.. the drive from SF to the west Yellowstone entrance is fairly easy and takes about 19 hours. If you map it don't go thru Salt Lake, go through Wells NV. I've driven it over 20 times. Drove to Montana when I lived in Cali and drove to Cali when I lived in MT. As far flights costs go... the smaller the city the more it costs to fly there. Denver to SF is way less than Billings to SF and so on.... Try Google Flights then tell it to also choose choose close by alternative cities. SF to Bozeman or Boise or Billings and then rent a car. For car rental try Tero (Google it)where you are actually renting from the car owner. Yellowstone is HUGE so plan on at least two days or even 3 to 4. Have fun!

If you make it to Yellowstone, don't think for a minute that the animals are tame. I've seen people do the stupidest things. One gentleman with his camera got within 3 feet of the head of a grazing bull elk. They try to keep the bears away from humans but on a rare occasion you might see one, keep your distance. The bison/buffalo are cantankerous, don't trust them for a second. If they are grazing close to where you need to walk, be aware that they can loose their temper at the drop of a hat. They are everywhere and it is easy to let your guard down but give them space, always have an exit plan. There is a bridge at the north end of the Yellowstone lake leading to the East entrance. People fish off that bridge and mistakenly think that when a bear comes along, being on the other side of the bridge is safe enough. It is not, you cannot out run a grizzly or black bear. https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm

  15. I have been to Yellowstone 4 times but all times from Oregon. It was always a pleasant drive. One can spend two days and see a lot but miss a lot too. It really depends on how much you want from your visit. If you want the most from your visit, 4 - 5 days would not be too much. It can get very hot and high altitude can make an extended stay uncomfortable, especially for kids.

  16. So true! The only tie my husband owns is the one he wore on our wedding day, a tie that I selected because it matched the red of my dress. I was actually just looking at our wedding photo to see how he had buttoned and I was thinking how handsome he was with his black suit and that tie.

Thanks! I just know better than to take issue with counsel at the time I'm receiving it- especially from a brother. Nine outta 10 times, I'll understand it better later and/or after research but if not, I may ask at the next meeting. I'm very into the submission thing.. 😉 pssst... if your jacket was buttoned you wouldn't look like you had a big belly.. 😝

  20. I really liked how they did not show the decision made by the sister regarding the wedding. Because this could affect the conscience of some brothers and sisters... "The society showed she didn't go to the wedding so we are not allowed to" or "The society approves because it showed so in a video". No, let your conscience decide

  24. This is a repeat but it seems appropriate to tell it again. Brother _____ served as as a DO in Texas, he was from the NE part of the country. He had served us in N California as his first assignment as a CO, we became good friends. He was talking to me about how the brothers are quite different in different parts of the country. He became a DO and one of his first assignments included part of Texas. During a pre-assemby meeting one of the local brothers asked if he would approve cowboy boots on the platform. Brother _____ said he looked around and decided that either he would have to do all the parts or allow cowboy boots on the platform. Done deal, he didn't do all the parts.

Make sure you have good insurance on rental car. Hot one minute and golf ball size hail storm the next. Car will look like some one hit it a hundred times with a ball teen hammer.

When you asked about which buttons to close, I thought you were talking about my dress Bib Overalls. We are mostly concerned with the two buttons on both sides (see picture-1). Got to button both buttons or the trousers flap open on the sides. Here are a couple of other snapshots. My wife and I going to meeting (pic-2), my brother coming home from service (pic-3) and a new brother (got hi m to wear a tie but we have to work on the grooming)....Just kidding, I couldn't help myself. We live in the rural area and have had publishers in bibs.....😉

  37. With Arizona just starting to warm up, I feel the need to post this warning again! Don't say I didn't warn you! What Ever You Do Don't Move To Arizona. May 30th: Just moved to Phoenix, AZ...Now this is a city that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. Mountains and deserts blend together. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here. Welcome to our town: June 14th: Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air conditioned home, drive an air conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a real sun worshiper. June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here. July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least it's nice and windy though. But getting used to it is taking longer than I expected. July 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed two days of work, what a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the old sun in a climate like this. July 20th: I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got out to the hot car for lunch, Morgan had swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and exploded all over $2,000 worth of leather upholstery. I told the kids she ran away. The car now smells like Kibbles and poop! No more pets in this heat!! July 25th: This wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as heck. The home air conditioner is on the fritz and AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts. July 30th: Been sleeping outside by the pool for three nights now. $1,500 in stupid house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here? Aug 4th: It's 115 degrees. Finally got the air conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to about 90. Stupid repairman leaked in my pool. I hate this stupid city. Aug 8th: If another wise acer cracks, "Hot enough for you today?", I'm going to tear his throat out. Stupid heat! By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like roasted freaking Garfield!! Aug 9th: Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts and sat on the black leather seat in the ol' car. I thought my butt was on fire. I lost two layers of flesh. Now my car smells like burnt butt and fried cat. Aug 10th: The weather report might as well be a tape recording: Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do Squat for two months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this barren desert? Water rationing will be next so $1,700 worth of cactus just might dry up and blow into the damn pool. Even a cactus can't live in this heat. Aug 14: Welcome to Hell!! Temperature got to 113 today. If I had wanted to move to Death Valley, I would have moved there instead. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damned windshield out of the Lincoln. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the $1,500 house payment to bail me out of jail. Author Unknown

  38. Sunday, July 8 Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.—Matt. 24:36. Jesus said those words while he was on earth. But Christ has been empowered in heaven to wage war against Satan’s world. (Rev. 19:11-16) Thus, it is reasonable to conclude that Jesus now knows when Armageddon will occur. We, however, do not know. It is imperative that we stay watchful until the tribulation occurs. Yet, the timing of that event has never been uncertain to Jehovah. He has determined exactly when the end will come. He is counting down the time to the start of the great tribulation, and its start “will not be late!” (Hab. 2:1-3) How can we be sure of this? Jehovah’s prophecies have always been fulfilled right on time! We can be certain that Jehovah’s promise of deliverance through the great tribulation will not fail us either. However, if we want to survive the destruction of this system, we must keep on the watch. w16.07 2:4-6

  39. So today I came across something really fascinating. I was reading about the origins of Chinese dragons and myth. I came across dragon worship and that the ancient Chinese called themselves "decendants of the dragon". And that this ancient belief was very much like modern evolution. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_dragon Essentially, reptiles became men over a time span, but this belief had a far more mystical element to it. But what we are seeing really is that... the world is still run by false religion, even amongst "non religious" scientists. We've always talked about how evolution really is in it's self a faith system as you can only go so far with the "evidence". And we see here.. it's nothing new at all. So it's just more modernised Babylon which really is no surprise with the "world in the power of the wicked one". Nothing we see that speaks against Jehovah is free of false religious influence and we know where that comes from.

    Climate Change News

Out of all the stories I've encountered on the horrors of climate change, I've not seen much if any commentary on man's encroachment in areas they shouldn't that contribute to the disaster. New Orleans, for example, is below sea level. Think about that. It is on the coast and below sea level. That sounds like a recipe for disaster. Credit to the engineers that developed the city, but come on! At some point something like Katrina was going to happen regardless of climate change. The same goes for Florida. I have much respect for Carl Fisher for developing Miami. The fact remains that Miami is built on a swamp. ON A SWAMP. Is it any wonder there is a constant battle against nature reclaiming Miami? In top of that, neither city is stagnant. They constantly grow. At some point the balance between urban development and nature will be passed. The reclaimed /above sea level land can only support so much before collapse. Southern California is the same way. IT'S A DESERT! Even with modern technology the desert can only support so many people. Yet people keep moving there. Or being born there. As the population grows, the demand for water increases. At some point that will be unsustainable even without climate change. Locally I see areas flood that never flooded before because of urban development. The water must go somewhere. I think a holistic approach to climate change is necessary and overlooked. All these stories of doom and gloom overlook or play down the aspect that man is encroaching on nature in ways that are unsustainable in the long run.

  47. Just listed to the whole book all the way through yesterday while doing some work. Really great. I felt like I was learning about the early history of the modern organization. It was chillingly good. I remember one talk a while back, the speaker recommended that we take a day where we have a few hours - 2 or 3 - and just read all of Acts straight through to get the full picture of what took place. And I have to say that listening to it is a great way to do that. I feel I got so many insights that I never have before just getting it all in one 'sitting'.

  48. I've been waiting for this one for quite some time. I have to say the wait has paid off There are some things that I have learned about Acts that I never knew just by listening to this. Hearing the different characters and there expressions really helps to see whats going on better. For instance, some parts that I always subvocalize as the narrator are actually conversation. For the first time I really paid attention to the disciple's prayer in Chapter 4. Overall, really good stuff.
