  4. Just got back from a structure fire call. Ten fire apparatus and twenty-five firefighters responded. The home already a loss when we arrived and its sole occupant was deceased. Hard to just go home and fall asleep after a run like that. Wish I hadn't seen the remains.

  8. They speak of churches in Minnesota, but give info on the decline of other churches nationally. Don't know how reputable the site is, just sharing. Quotes from article, "When La Salle Lutheran locks its doors in August, it will become the latest casualty among fragile Minnesota churches either closing, merging or praying for a miracle." "Church attendance has been declining for decades nationally, but the pace appears to be accelerating." http://m.startribune.com/index.php/as-minnesota-churches-close-a-way-of-life-fades/486037461/

  10. It's now possible (again) to see a long list of every convention in a particular country, the only limiting factor is language (you can't see multiple languages together in the list; you must select one language and this filters the list of conventions in the country). To search for and generate a list (no jw.org account needed), follow these steps: 1. visit donate.jw.org 2. click "Online Donation" (with the credit card logos) then "My Regional Convention" tab* then "Find Convention" button 3. click the link "Continue without using an account" 4. click the "Location" tab at the top. You can now choose any country, and click "search" to see all conventions in the selected language! (you can leave the 'city or venue' box empty when you search to see all results) *note that if you don't see the "My Regional Convention" tab (or the entire "Online Donation" dropdown is missing) then simply change your country to US or Canada under the dropdown menu near the top which says "Select your country to see your local donation options"

  15. I did my first programming in 1967. My school was in a math competition with 101 other schools. Each school could bring 4 team members and 4 alternates if they wished. There were between 404 and 808 math students. I was number 19 overall and was invited back and taught something called Gotran, which was supposed to be a simplified Fortran. I later programmed in Basic, C and C++, I got away from programming because it just seemed useless. Then, in the 90's I taught myself Assembly Language and did some batch file programming, web page design. Programming is really not worthwhile any more because almost anything I can think of to program is already available from someone else. "But," like everyone keeps saying, "that was a long time ago".

Its a lack of required nutrients, which they add back in to commercial cat food. For example, Taurine gets removed when you cook meat (which any protein in commercial pet food will be), which is why they put it back in, 'fortify' it. If you're feeding a cat yourself, it should not be cooked, they need raw meat like chicks, mice, rabbits, birds, fish, or eggs in order to not suffer malnutrition. There's a lot of reviews on Pottenger's Cats for and against raw diets on the internet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_M._Pottenger_Jr.#Pottenger's_cats

  23. Actually, horse poop is not really that good of a fertalizer - cow is far better and chicken is sometimes too "hot" The problem is, if you are horse and buggy - they poop on the road while pulling the buggy - not only can it bounce up and hit you, if everyone is using h&b to get around, that is a lot of poop on the roads. Now, while it is true you can put a diaper in the horse They are not that easy to use and are not always effective ... plus, it is one more piece of equipment to have to deal with and maintain. Not to mention it does nothing for when the horse pees - and horses can pee gallons!

  24. I love 'boodles', too. And I hope we do get to meet some day. Guess 'Rozz' would be more phonetically correct, short for Rosanne. But there is a story about how it became Ross. A guy stopped by our farm one day and said, "Son, is your father around?" I related the experience to my friends. They thought it was hysterical. So they nicknamed me Ross, the hired man. It stuck. So, now, friends just call me Ross.

  27. I vividly recall what it was like before this flag salute issue was settled in 1943. I started 1st grade in Lead SD in 1940 and it wasn't so bad that year as it was in 1941 when I was in second grade. That teacher was very patriotic and insisted that we salute the flag every morning. At that young age and my parents just coming in the truth, I don't know that I really knew the whole story of what was happening and the why of it. What I really got from my parents was that JEHOVAH did not want us to bow down to the flag and I being the obedient child that I was taught all my life, I wasn't about to salute it. As a consequence every morning she took me in the coat room and spanked me. But she never succeeded in making me salute. She could have beat me and I would NOT cry--or salute! I never told my mom about it cuz dad had told me right off if I was bad and got a spanking at school, I would get another when I got home. When they finally figured out why I didn't want to go to school, Mom went with me to check it out. The teacher said "I will teach her to salute the flag" and she grabbed me, took me to the coat room and gave a hard spanking in front of mom. But I didn't cry or salute! Then my dad got involved and reported it to the school board. That was the end of the spanking but NOT the name calling by my classmates. I was the only witness in the school and the patriotic furor was really rampant. That area in SD was a hotbed of persecution for the witnesses. Several times my mom and the special pioneer sister that studied with her got hauled into the police station and in 1942 at our "Peace Can It Last" convention in Deadwood,SD a mob gathered to break up the assembly. The police quellled that and the brother on the platform said "let's go out and show them we are still here." We all donned the placards and did an information march. Being only 8 yo my placard came clear down to my feet. In the old video of "The New World Society in Action" there was a little girl about my age with a sandwich sign....almost to her feet! I was baptized at that convention and for a long time, I questioned if that would be a valid baptizm and just to be sure, I was baptized again. As a recent WT. study about young ones getting baptized, it said if one is old enough to know right from wrong, they could be baptized. That was reassuring but I have always felt a strong sense of right and wrong and especially where my worship of Jehovah is concerned. I thought the issue was long ago settled but I guess not. 🙄The book "Persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses and the Dawn of the Rights Revolution" strongly shows what went on in those days and howJWs fought for the rights we now have!

Jehovah used a non worshiper to prophecy about Jesus and the last days. Who is he? Clue: The first fulfilment of the prophecy was in David. Sent from my Infinix X572 using Tapatalk Sent from my Infinix X572 using Tapatalk

  31. For those who think horse and buggy is a "simple, carefree" way to travel have never done. They may have had a ride in a carriage, but they have never had to train and care for the horse(s), the harness and bridles as well as the buggy itself. They are a lot of work - not to mention that, even when you are not using the them for transport - unlike a vehicle, the horse still has to be fed and cared for every day. And, I am speaking from experience!

  33. I was deeply touched by this month's broadcasting. It has been a real eye opener on how to really delve into the scriptures and make it come to life. I really liked how to use the 6 questions and how brothers n sisters used different colours to identify subject topics in the Bible. It was such a humbling experience that has made me see that I have a lot to learn. As for the song...... Wooooww, i think i did share a tear and i looked round to see others wiping tears from their eyes too. Such valuable gems from Jehovah's organization.!!! May He keep blessing us with more of these and help us to apply the things we learn.

Thank you for the mp4 Sister Mandi. I know us Aussies have our own lingual peculiarities as Brother Lett noticed whilst he was here in Melbourne for the International Convention several years ago. Maazing (amazing) is one, as is Straya (Australia). Then there's Eggnishner (air conditioner), but my favourite would be the story of a famous author at a book signing in Melbourne. A woman pushed through the crowd with a book in her hand, thrust it under the authors nose and asked, "How much is it?" Without blinking the author opened the book and wrote, to Emma Chisit, and handed it back to her. Now having said that I will stir it up a bit more with the updated list to understanding New Zealand english. Mwuhahahaha

    Books that you enjoy!

How many of us from all corners of the earth were raised on Enid Blyton? I loved The Folk of the Faraway Tree best. Before my Enid Blyton days, there was a series of books for younger children known as Ladybird books which I loved. They were mostly folklore and fairy stories. Who could forget Chicken Licken and Henny Penny😂 my adolescence was spent lost in sci fi, particularly Douglas Adams, Robert Heinlen, then later Terry Pratchett. My desert island books would be David Copperfield, Wuthering Heights, and Mist Over Pendle (Robert Neill), the two latter books probably because I am familiar (and very fond of), the locations and local history.l These days I read all sorts of variety and genre. I loved the EK Jonathon books and I enjoy history in general. Aside from our own publications or bible based books, the best books that I have read recently are :- Elizabeth is Missing (Emma Healey) Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine (Gail Honeyman) The Curious Incident Of the Dog in the Night Time (Mark Haddon) My oh my, I just love books. To echo other comments, thank you for a lovely thread😁

  42. The other children in Kindergarten when I was five tried to make me put my hand over my heart. But that was because they thought everyone had to do it. They didn't understand. They left me alone after the teacher told them to. In first grade one of the teachers I had said that saluting the flag is so that we can learn the difference between our right hand and our left hand. I thought to myself; "I know the difference." In third grade I was ridiculed regularly by most of the other children in my class for refusing to salute the flag although I stood respectfully. I did try to explain my position to the other children. The teacher didn't help and made things worse, when he said one day, that it isn't worship like some people think it is. I ended up homeschooled not long after that, but not because of the flag salute issue.

I don't know how long it will take me but I hope in a few months Spanish-speaking friends will be able to enjoy this book too. I'm excited!
