Feds: 4 attacks on Jehovah's Witnesses churches linked; $25,000 reward offered Three arson attacks and one shooting at Kingdom Halls in Thurston County, Washington are linked, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person(s) responsible. Local authorities are calling the attacks "hate crimes", and some members of the general community are publicly offering their support to our brothers:9 points -

A lady I know is renowned for being talkative and not listening to other people. She just talks about herself all the time and rarely comes up for air. She was telling me the other day how her friend had called round for coffee at 6pm one evening. .....And I quote..... "Well, we had coffee and I was chatting away and the next thing I looked up and my friend was asleep. Mind you, it was 2am in the morning"6 points

I'm quite new here, but I am already feeling very nice and warm because of help, love and encourage that are so abundant in here. Although I'm like, an ocean or two away from most of you guys, I'm looking forward to enjoying every post here, at least until Armageddon comes! Emma said yesterday ‘These new glove-shaped wipes for my feet are really good. Much easier.’ But I thought she said ‘Much cheesier’. I think I got carried away on Amazon Prime Day. My pistol-shaped infrared thermometer has turned up, along with 2.5kg (5.5lb) of bicarbonate of soda for scrubbing my teeth.5 points

Can I suggest you look at http://codiumlabs.com/ios/offline-pages/ I use Offline Pages to save certain pages of jw.org for use in the ministry. For example setting the app to download 45 pages plus media to a link depth of 4 gives me all the Bible study section unit one with it’s videos allowing for a good demonstration of the course. It works exactly like it does when online except tapping a scripture link doesn’t work at that link depth. Depending on your needs you could download each unit separately.4 points

I also like his quote "Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." That reminds of one of Judge Judy's favorite sayings: "Beauty fades, but stupid is forever" XD XD XD4 points

My all time favorite TOS episode was "The city on the edge of forever". But, I have always liked Harlan Ellison's writing.3 points

Perhaps just the beginning? I have been to the RC yet, but I have my suspicions we are being prepared for such. One day soon, our battle, “getting out that door, to go to meetings, getting out in service, getting that personal studying done,”, may be the need of the courage Jehovah is preparing us for!3 points -

I am happy to see this thread, Brother Dillip. Because, while researching info for a story I was writing, I came across some interesting facts about how Jehovah has programmed our amazing bodies to deal with injuries. My research was compiled by visiting a dozen different medical websites and it shows how Jehovah has pre-programmed us to compensate for changes in bodily functions. It covers more than one vital organ, because it deals with shock: Coolest thing of all is…if we are in Jehovah’s memory when we die, there is no NRP.3 points -
Exactly. We did one lesson for our family worship, and even as advanced students (of course) I can see the learning power behind these lessons. Apparently, the organization had this in the works for some time, as evidence by the videos produced a year or so ago they're using.3 points

A very interesting point from the above book, something I had not really thought about before. When discussing the existence of God, if the atheist refers to evolution then it is totally irrelevant! Evolution, even if it were true in all its Darwinian glory, has no bearing on the existence of God. Evolution can only operate on life (if it operates at all) so the real question is: How did life originate? No-one has any idea, say all the scientists researching this area. To get from non-living chemicals to the "simplest" of cells i.e. the bacterium, is absolutely beyond any scientific explanation. I put 'simplest' in quotes because a bacterium is anything but simple! The dna, the rna, the nanomachinery, ribosomes, cell membrane etc etc. are incredibly complex, not to mention its ability to self-replicate.3 points

I just came from the C-L& M meeting, particularly thinking about Brother Jackson's talk on neutrality. These are scary times, but he spoke of not being able to buy or sell without having the mark on the forehead and hand. Although all I know about are the horrible experiences of our brothers in other countries, I can't help but think of how to maintain the form of worship that is clean and undefiled from Jehovah's standpoint - to keep oneself without spot from the world. I don't want to badmouth (or goodmouth) Trump and lose my escape out of the great tribulation. Brother Jackson is in my generation, and I, like he, can remember the pressures that were brought on the brothers by the Vietnam war.3 points -

I wrote the Mickey Spillane summit parody for Jane Spillane, who is re-releasing the Mike Hammer tough-guy series of late 1940's private eye books. It is a spoof on what if the President had handled Putin like Mike Hammer might handle a crime boss. She loved it. She said so right here just two posts ago. I wrote it because Mickey Spillane later became one of Jehovah's Witnesses and his work changed a lot. That triggered my interest in his books. Now, Jane is not a Witness, probably has mixed feelings about them at best, and may feel they were responsible for 'sabatoging' his work, since his post-JW writings lose the excess sex and violence and thereby become less of what Mickey himself once said about Hemingway and the highbrow authors: "What those guys could never get is that you sell a lot more salted peanuts than cavier." Nonetheless, there is no way she could not have picked up on his enthusiasm for the truth, and probably concedes that that is what ensured he remained the upright man he always had been. Jane is intensely political, another reason for the theme of my post. She assures me that Mickey would have been a Trump-man, too. I have not the slightest doubt of it, with the exception that he would know how to keep political leaning its place, and not disturb the peace of the congregation with such matters. All human governments will drop the ball, usually it is a bowling ball, and the only open question is upon which toe will it land. As individuals ponder their own toes, some will favor the left and some the right. Anyhow, I said to Jane that we could help each other. I will use the story to hopefully (this is extremely hard to do) flag the attention of some high profile figures, and did she want to be tagged or not?. She did. Good. It's a win-win, potentially helping both our causes. Mine is to direct attention to my blog, www.tomsheepandgoats.com, the first thing that hits the eyes is a link for my free ebook Dear Mr Putin - Jehovah's Witnesses Write Russia, which calls attention to the plight of our people there, (along with answering many a scurilous charge) and that goal motivates nearly everything I do these days. I draw some of my inspiration from Anton Chivchalov Blog. These days it is important to bring one's gift to the altar. The post is here: http://www.tomsheepandgoats.com/2018/07/showdown-at-the-summit.html Since the violence and sex is excessive in those pre-Witness days, it is easy to dismiss the novels as so much garbage. However, as to the writing itself, Ayn Rand (The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged) lavished high praise on them and compared them favorably to some elite authors of the day. Mickey's own dad, I think he was a bartender, called his writing "crud." Ayn Rand did not feel that way. Atlantic Magazine (I think it was) interviewed him in later years ('I may write one more Mike Hammer, but that's it. I can't sit eight hours in a chair anymore. My rear end gets sore.') and pointed out that his latter books were winning some critical acclaim. "To Mickey's disgust, one suspects," one suspects, the author adds. Come on! It is impossible not to love this guy. He had the combination of intense interest, yes, even love, of people, coupled with an absolute lack of pretence, and a willingness to go 'in your face,' traits that were a trademark of Witnesses of a certain generation. Jane herself, I am not sure that she realized it, give me the ultimate green light, when she said of my scheme: "Mickey would love it."2 points -

On second thought, it is woefully lacking. I do not see Tom Brexit, Tom Irregardless, Dr Mike "Ace" Inhibitor, (or his colleague Dr Hep See), And where is Dr. Tom "Hammer' Urabi? And don't get me going about Tom and Pearl Pearlsandswine, or even the brother who went bad, Vic Vomidog.2 points -

I love this site. It is by far the most complete list I have ever seen. I like their explanation of criteria. I like the author's insight. He knows, for example, that it is an absolute lie to say the Witness religion stifles creativy. You should never expect a non-Witness site to get it all right. If they did, get it all right, they would probably become Witnesses themselves. it is that sort of a topic, that divides heart and soul. There is a Pew survey on the breakdown of U.S. political leaning by religion. Mormons are at one end, overwhelmingly Republican. African Methodists (I think) at the other, overwhelming Democrat. A steady flow from one end to the other. Jehovah's Witnesses, as one would expect, are in the center, with no strong leanings either way, but what leanings there are are more Democrat than Republican. I account for it in two ways. 1. Participants self-identify. They might allign themselves with Jehovah's Witnesses, but that does not make them publishers, which is our criteria. 2. What little most of us think on the topic is influenced by what is seen on TV. People see Trump, and they say: "He is bombastic, whereas I try to be polite."2 points -
Sorry, but when I read the tptle to this topic all that came to mind was; "Who am I? Jean Valjean! "2 points

To the best of my knowledge, he died faithful. That is not to say that he was not in and out a time or two. At any rate, he did much witnessing in his day, within his daily contacts, reaching some high profile people that we would have trouble reaching. http://www.tomsheepandgoats.com/2006/10/farewell_again_.html2 points -

Ah, now I am in the company of those 'operating within normal parameters'. I watched Blake 7, Space 1999, along with Star Trek growing up. As an adult I've no choice but to continue watching. No, I won't admit to owning every episode or movie ever made. But if I did my defense would be: "Resistance was useless"2 points
