  3. One of my favorite early proclaimers of the message was General William Preble Hall, the Adjutant General of the USA. He is probably one of the few Servants of Jehovah that was awarded the Congressional medal of Honor. He left the army, joined CT Russell and became a member of the society's "Missionary Committee" headed by Br. Russell. These were the brothers that made the 'round-the-world trip in 1911 to see the condition of the people and the need for the work to expand. Br. Hall was appointed as a "pilgrim" or "servant to the bretheren" which we now call Circuit Overseers. He served until health forced him to slow down in the 1920's. He died faithful in 1927. Note: in the group picture he is second from the left in the back row. The full-dress military picture is featured in the center section of the brochure "Great Battle in the Ecclesiastical Heavens" that Br. Rutherford wrote as a defense of Br. Russell.

  7. Hi, new here. Im not sure if this is the right place for this.... I have a bad mosquito problem where i live. I spray nasty chemicals bc they are so unbearable. I literally breathe mosquitos! A bro was over here the other day and we were complaining about the pests. He said an old brother told him years ago that mosquitos were created by Satan. I told him i didn't believe that and he said he didn't really either but he did bring up the magic practicing priests turning the rods into snakes, and satan had the power to do that. I guess thats not the same as creating something new though. But i started thinking about it for a few days. I guess mosquitos are just one of the pests we are stuck w as imperfect people, environment, etc. Maybe Mosquitos aren't doing what they were originally designed for. But then what about other animal designs like sharp claws, huge razor teeth, and other animal weapons that seem to be designed for ripping flesh, chewing meat, etc? Bear teeth & claws, lion teeth & claws, raptor talons & beaks, alligators .... or bee stingers, snake & spider venom. an endless list of animals w deadly weapons or defenses. I know Isa 65 says wolf and lamb will feed together. So why does the wolf have such big bad teeth? (The better to eat you with my dear!) Its silly i know. Just trying to make a first post:)

  8. @Stormswift *ears twitch* Did someone say Keto...? I have been summoned! 🐈 Manic Writing State Induced You've probably read some of my posts in https://jwtalk.net/forums/topic/34790-any-good-keto-recipes/ regarding Keto and Intermittent Fasting. If not, please review them when you have the time, I also dropped a ton of video links and podcasts there in some different posts and spoiler tags which are important to understanding the fundamentals. I'll link more of them directly related to the fasting side of things here. I'm coming from the attitude of taking the more cautious diet template to recover from chronic illness rather than fasting. Side note, studies indicate that Stevia (as well as anything that triggers sweetness to your taste buds) "may" trigger the process to raise your insulin, which is not what you want if your goal is insulin sensitivity or weight loss. My experience is that long term fasting / intermittent fasting, and even Keto if you have certain diseases or a restricted/unvaried diet, will inevitably lead to some form of malnutrition. That said, I am all for Keto as I find the benefits of it certainly outweigh any risks for me personally, especially in terms of cognition and metabolism. I mitigate the risks by adjusting my diet slightly time to time, by supplementing extra micronutrients, minerals and electrolytes, and I will cycle a few carbs back in like a small-medium sweet potato every/every other week. I can eat up to 4 full meals per day and no longer struggle with the daily blood sugar spikes or chronic adrenal fatigue as I used to. I have managed to safely gain weight on Keto by eating to satiation up to a modest 5' 4' 130lbs from a malnourished 110lbs, and that's where my body decided its content to stay until I can firm up some sagging muscles. I've reached the point that I could intermittent fast a couple times a week if I wanted to, but I try not to do it on purpose as it carries very little practical benefit for me at the cost of the risks with my disorders. I find it best for me to keep my reserves topped off at capacity for unexpectedly bad days or stressors. I usually only do it unintentionally on a rare day when a combination of sleep deprivation and external deadlines or pressure drive me into a manic phase along with video game addiction which prevents me from paying attention to my physical needs. I recommend against long term fasting in general unless you're suffering from chronic insulin resistance or obesity and need to reset your hormone threshold or your taste buds, again provided you're also supplementing with green vegetable juice (nothing starchy or fruits, focused on nutrients only) or bone broth, as well as electrolytes and minerals. Chronic fasting is a physiological stressor on the body, if you continue it long enough to burn through your nutrient reserves then your body will start cannibalizing itself which can go quite badly with certain disorders or if you're going low calorie versus no calorie. There is evidence that eating one meal per day can lengthen your lifespan, however, I feel that is also highly dependent upon the quality of your food and your health, and that it's not a good idea if you're suffering from chronic illness or malabsorption. Your body needs a lot of energy and nutrition to run digestion and detox and exercise compared to what low calorie is offering a sick body, which will end up crashing in adrenal burnout. If you are trying to lose weight in excess fat stores, then you need to eat even more fat to break the bonds of the fat you already have stored, sans carbohydrates and excess protein. Aside from obesity, the only thing I would consider fasting for is recovering from certain types of infections, cancer, or bowel / autoimmune inflammation followed by switching to an autoimmune paleo / keto diet. Make sure that you know the differences between nutritional Ketosis, starvation Ketosis, and Ketoacidosis. Chronic intermittent or long term fasting is like starvation Ketosis, whereas eating a Ketogenic diet along with occasional Intermittent Fasting is nutritional Ketosis. One is your body cannibalizing itself, the other is your body making its preferred fuel source from food. In order to see modest benefits of cellular autophage and hormones from the 'good stress' of Intermittent Fasting and without risk, it's generally only recommended one or two days per week for a person who is already at a healthy weight, eating well, satiated, having already dealt with their metabolic and digestion diseases. Otherwise, you're training your brain to expect starvation and turning systems on and off constantly, which makes it say 'Hey, I need to binge and store all of this food that I'm eating, I can't afford to let any of it be excreted as waste because there's no consistent access to food!!' The key to overall beneficial Intermittent Fasting is in the name - if it isn't intermittent, it's chronic. (Luke 18:12) I fast twice a week; https://justinhealth.com/how-to-do-intermittent-fasting-correctly/ https://youtu.be/dFT2IKmwyfg https://youtu.be/APZCfmgzoS0 https://justinhealth.com/intermittent-fasting-to-improve-fat-loss-podcast-144/ https://justinhealth.com/jimmy-moore-the-complete-guide-to-fasting-podcast-132/

  10. I have lost some of my historical material in a serious computer crash earlier this year. So some of my documentation is lost or misplaced. But there was a debate (like the Russell-Eaton debates) with Br.Rutherford and opposing clergymen. In that debate, JF Rutherford was assisted by his son, Malcolm. He said in the report, 'that is was a pleasure to have his son with the Bible and scripture ready each time he needed a quote'. So he continued at Bethel after CT Russell died. When the move of his family to California came, Malcolm went with his mother. The reports I found indicated that Malcolm did not retain any "prominence" in the organization after that, but he refused to be manipulated by the opposers of his father. As near as I can tell, he died as an ordinary faithful brother in California. I was in the same congregation as his mother. I used to go with my father to read to her in her old age. I was a member of the Monrovia Congregation until 1958-1959 (when we moved to Florida. NOTE: This is the information I can gather on Malcolm. Malcolm C. Rutherford born Nov. 10, 1892, died June 22, 1989 lived in Arcadia, California

  17. Maria Frances Russell (Mrs. C.T.Russell) was an ambitious and capable woman. In the beginning of our organization she was a co-editior of the Watchtower magazine and a contributor (or writer) of some articles in the magazine. I believe she was at one time a director, also. Her ambitions were encouraged by flattery and undoubtedly Satan. Br. Russell determined that women were not to be teachers to the congregation and restricted that activity for her. It caused upset and her eventual spiritual demise and the legal separation from CTR. I have attached 3 clips from the 1885 Watchtower. One shows the January issue heading, the second shows the bottom of the first page (page #707) where the directors are listed (showing MF Russell as Secretary-treasurer) and lastly a clip from the March issue of the same year (page #730) which has a contributed article by her. It is marked at the edn as "Mrs. CTR". Her actions remind me a lot of Miriam against Moses with worse results.

  18. A 36 year old ELDER, with a seriously rock solid theo family background, beautiful wife, happy marriage, new home, trips around the world, very active in every way,... just took his own life and no one understands why. There were no red flags, no known depression, no clues. We are related. I'm used to feeling sorry for myself, having a sub-standard life with non-believers BUT, in terms of pain, what pain could ever compare to this scenario?? A brother commented tonight "We may see more of this..." A reference to the times we live in. It is terrifying to watch a "stable" one fall. May Jehovah help us all. PLEASE, pray for our elders, we need them, each and every one of them.

  20. Thanks everyone. .. We were at a Farmers Market thing and set up outside in the parking lot. We were getting our canopy set up when a good gust came through, I saw at least 2 other canopies go over. We just happened to be holding ours at the time so we were okay. We had a couple other gusts hit but I had put the carts right next to the legs and our chairs right next to them too...I could see some trees a few hundred feet away and could tell when a gust was coming (mostly) so I just said 'grab it' and Denise is pretty quick. . A car group came by and checked on us and the Sister driving said she had bought some weights designed just for those canopies but they were at her house. She offered to go get them but we only had a half hour or so left so we declined. Plus, the wind had pretty much died down. All told, it was a good day. ... Thanks y'all. ...

    A new game

Some beautiful scriptures Acts 21 : 20 After hearing this, they began to glorify God, but they said to him: “You see, brother, how many thousands of believers there are among the Jews, and they are all zealous for the Law. Zec 8 : 2 “This is what Jehovah of armies says, ‘I will be zealous for Zion with a great zeal, and with great wrath I will be zealous for her.’” 1 kings 19 : 10 To this he said: “I have been absolutely zealous for Jehovah the God of armies; for the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, your altars they have torn down, and your prophets they have killed with the sword, and I am the only one left. Now they are seeking to take my life away.” Next word : fingers (When you will search for this word in the Bible you will enjoy more)

I am skimming through the high court decision and it seems to me the judges keep returning to the point that they can ndeed insist ghat a member of a religion has been treated fairly... but "fairness" is subjective, isnt it? if we are not speaking legally, I cannot understand how it is their business to ensure a regoius committee is fair (I know ours is but what if there was a religion called "The brotherhood of arbitrary Decisions" and one of the tenets was "you get no hearing, our God tells our leader who to expel and this can be for no reason" would an ex-member be allowed to sue? ...

  29. Interesting but I object to the suggestion that the sign was "illegal". I'm certain that if they needed permission (and the brothers knew that to be the case) they would have sought it. Plus the first link said they found written documents affirming the request for and approval of the sign... I'm curious as to whether the developers Lawyers approached the brothers to ask if they had any documentation... Still if it was actually illegal but the city overlooked the fact, we can chalk that up to it being Jehovah's will and he striking the city officials with a 50 year bout of blindness as with the Syrian army and Elisha.

  30. There is a sweet sister in my neighboring congregation - she approached the witnessing cart about 3 years ago. Her story is pretty amazing - she's been through all sorts before she came into the truth. Long story short: She is tattooed from her chin down (literally - entire neck, chest, arms, legs - and they are very colorful). So she wears a lot of scarfs and long sleeves in the scorching sun (not that we have much of that here in the UK but still...). Her ex-boyfriend is a tattoo-artist. She witnesses a lot informally and many who are very much into tattoos actually are happy to talk because of her appearance. They are curious why a witness would have tattoos (and so many!) and want to know why she became a witness. Despite her attempt to cover them up they are still quite obvious. She has mixed feeling about this as she feels that people are quite superficial for only wanting to talk because of her appearance but she realizes that they are imperfect, worldly people and sees it as an opportunity to give a witness and tells them why she regrets having them done. She was able to start a lot of studies - a lot of them would have never spoken to one of our "boring" un-tattooed brothers....lol Unfortunately some youngsters in the truth admire her tattoos and go on about how they would get one if they weren't witnesses so she tells them that it's is good that they still listen to the advice not to get one but that their admiration for her tattoos is misplaced - and then goes on to tell them how much she regrets having them done. I was actually quite surprised to see YPA articles about tattoos (and plastic surgery) - is this something that existing brothers and sisters need to be counselled on?

  31. Hello dear brothers and sisters, My wife and I plan to gift something memorable to all the newly baptized and regular pioneers in our congregation. There are around 20 of them and hence we are looking out for suggestions which will not be heavy on our pockets and at the same time will let us know how deeply we appreciate what they are doing. Yes, I will be writing a personal note to all of them. Any suggestions of top of this?

I bought him a pair of greenstone cufflinks (NZ Jade) So anything like that, tiepin something nice for the meeting - i thought initially a nice pen set - but the young ones usually just carry their tablets around. So maybe a nice tablet bag? Anything that would encourage pioneering like a nice big jacket - haha.

  38. I have two faves, too. When you have a dented bread pan, every loaf that gets baked in that pan will come out of the oven with that dent in it. Mankind's mold, Adam and Eve, were flawed by sin and death. Every human descendant of theirs inherits that sin and death from them. Meddling in politics is like rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic. No matter what furniture/politician/party is placed where, the ship/septic system of things is going down.

  39. I have two Illustrations I'd love to share ... one to do with the FDS and the other to do with trials and tribulations. One: When listening to all the videos and transcripts of the ARC Hearing (details on that is in another thread) - I listened to Brother Jackson's testimony, and one of the questions he was asked was "Are the FDS inspired?" and he went on to describe the FDS as "Guardians of Scripture" - which is someone who preserves scriptural truth and integrity. So now, when people, or new ones ask exactly how the FDS function - I use the following illustration: That of a Michelin Star Chef (Jehovah of course) and his Soux Chef (Jesus) who have provided people with the 'perfect' menu - but in order to supply all the restaurants it needs to be distributed accurately or as accurately as the chefs under the care of the Soux Chef can. So the chefs have been charged with replicating the menu in a manner that portrays the original menu as accurately as they can. They won't replace butter with margarine, or a light cream for a full cream, or processed meat with grass fed meat. Etc etc. It's about maintaining integrity to the original menu. Does that make sense? As these chefs were learning in the beginning some cooking mistakes were made - but under the guidance of the Soux Chef their skills improved and continue to improve. The other illustration has to do with attitude or submission maybe ... I've learnt it through my own trials and I love love love the result of this illustration. We all have trials and tribulations, and if we don't now, we will - in fact the scripture says that we will enter the new system through many trials. So it's about how we get through those trials. The Japanese have an interesting craft. It's below in the pictures - so if we subject ourselves to Jehovah and his processes, his glue is unlike any other - it's GOLD - we will still be cracked ... but in his eyes and those of our brothers and sisters we become more valuable - and we shine in a way we didn't prior to our trials. So my dear brothers and sisters - always submit to the processes from Jehovah or those who represent him - and he WILL put your heart back together - with gold. Doesn't matter what type of vessel we are. - Much Love - Mandi.
