A new font that aids memory
carlos and 7 others reacted to GeordieGirl for a topic
I have just been reading this and have downloaded the font to try it out. It installed straight into MS Word. Obviously wouldn't use it for complete documents but for extra important points it is worth a try. https://www.watoday.com.au/education/the-new-font-that-promises-to-boost-your-memory-20181003-p507ju.html It slants backwards, there are confusing gaps in every letter and it’s difficult to read. But the aptly-named Sans Forgetica has a major advantage: it’s believed to improve people’s memories. In a world first, researchers from RMIT University have designed a font to help people retain information. The font is based on the psychological principle of ‘desirable difficulty’ and improves memory retention by disrupting normal reading patterns. Unlike traditional fonts, which can be scanned over without creating a memory trace, Sans Forgetica requires a bit of extra work. Readers have to put in a bit of mental effort to close the gaps in letters, making them dwell on each word for a little longer. The font also has an unconventional slant to the left, instead of the slant to the right used for italicised text. This also boosts people's engagement with the words and leads to deeper cognitive processing. You can download it here: http://sansforgetica.rmit/ The box that pops up isn't a requisite .. just close it.8 points -
New Font on Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY

It seems that the Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY has changed the font it is using. Here is a snapshot of the site's Bible page from Wayback Machine last August 25, 2018: And here's what it looks like now, October 4, 2018: The first one looks like Segoe font, while the new one looks like FreeSans. I love both of them, they're stylish and very legible.5 points -

Volcano erupts in Indonesia days after devastating earthquake and tsunami
Friends just call me Ross and 3 others reacted to Tbs77 for a topic
A volcano erupted Wednesday on the same island in Indonesia where an earthquake and tsunami last week killed at least 1,400 people. The eruption of Mount Soputan on Sulawesi island in central Indonesia prompted authorities to warn of possible lava flows and ash clouds that could impact air travel. Evacuations were ordered for those living within a few miles of the volcano. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2018/10/03/volcano-eruption-rocks-indonesia-after-devastating-earthquake-tsunami/1507607002/ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk4 points -

Glass Blowing - illustration only??
califlorican and 2 others reacted to Qapla for a topic
I went back and watched the glassblowing illustration again and I read the transcript to make sure I got it ... There was a lead into glassblowing that showed how that skill changed the world. Then, the progression of a glassblowing shop was demonstrated to show how more than one person can have input into the finished product. It covered four aspects of glassblowing in a shop ... gathering blowing adding features to the blown portion final shaping This was followed by a four part explanation that used the various steps of glassblowing to illustrate how this world (under Satan) can use heat and pressure to mold us. It was summed up with these words: Since the shop produced "beautiful, useful" vessels, I do not get where it was saying that glassblowing is a bad/wrong/useless/unfit/detestable/something to be avoided. The example/illustration was not intended to shed a disparaging on the craft of glassblowing. It was only used to demonstrate how we can be molded. We can be molded by Jehovah or Satan. If we allow Satan to mold us - we will be useless!3 points -
Relentless misery for those poor people... I read a report today on Sky News about one lady who said that just as her husband came home from work last Friday the earthquake struck & it literally turned the solid floor beneath them into liquid & they all began to run, she managed somehow to get to safety but her husband, along with most of the village, was swollowed up! His body was eventually found & now she sits on the edge of a mass grave that he’s been placed in distraught....😔 i feel so sad for these poor people & pray that Jehovah can somehow get the truth to them so they can have hope of seeing their loved ones again.3 points

If you look at the picture, the capital "J" (like in King James) is not as 'complete' in rounding out the bottom of the letter. The newer version is more rounded and completed in the upward turn. This is a subtle but quick example.3 points

Thursday, October 4 Keep perceiving what the will of Jehovah is.—Eph. 5:17.
Myew and 2 others reacted to hatcheckgirl for a topic
How do we perceive what the will of Jehovah is? "In the absence of a direct Bible law", we pray to him and accept his guidance by holy spirit. This guidance may come through our own Bible reading, someone's comments at a meeting, a talk, counsel from mature ones, researching Bible publications etc. There are many matters that "could be decided one way or another, and Jehovah would still be pleased." As Gal 6:5 says, "each one will carry his own load of responsibility". So, it is not for us to rigidly insist on our preferences for another person. Even if your advice is based on Bible principles, and you have the best of intentions, "Christians must train and exercise their powers of discernment (Heb 5;14)". We each of us have to learn to trust Jehovah, and figure out how to gain his approval by the choices we make.3 points -

Here is a nice reference to glass and glassblowing: *** g95 11/22 p. 26 Glass—Its First Makers Lived Long, Long Ago *** It was much later that a new method, glassblowing, would revolutionize glass production…When Jesus walked the earth, glassblowing was in its infancy. …The glassblowing innovation, …made glass products more accessible to the common peopl “At a pressing machine, two men with minimum experience could produce four times as much glass as a team of three or four trained glassblowers.” Many artists and designers have been attracted by the artistic potential of glass. This has brought innovative design to glass products and the creation of more artwork in glass. Glass is certainly a marvel. Apart from all its domestic uses, consider some of its many other applications—in the Hubble Space Telescope, in camera lenses, in fiber-optic communication systems, and in the chemistry laboratory. Fragile maybe, but so versatile and beautiful.2 points

Keto, IF and OMAD...
Friends just call me Ross and one other reacted to LeslieDean for a topic
I have lost somewhere around 35 lbs. Marjority of that was the first 3 months. It has not been difficult at all! I researched all I could find, watched the Magic Pill on Netflix, and keep up with all the excellent videos on you tube. I find th FB support groups to be a tremendous way of support. I still eat a carb loaded diet occasionally but I have never gained any weight back. I IF, OMAD, and have fasted 1 x only for an extended fast of 36 hrs. What I love is with such a variety of information I can correct myself WHEN I consciously choose to do something not in the keto WOE. I no longer have have the mentality of ‘oops, I’ll start again tomorrow or will restart on Monday!’ No wonder I never was good at traditional diets with that attitude. Monday was always a week away. I start AT THAT TIME. With my 12 hr noc work schedule it sometimes gets dicey over times I choose to eat but still, I eat when I am hungry. If that means eating at 0730 after getting off at 0700, so be it. I am able to go home and sleep well after that. Sometimes I get up and eat when I get to work, making for no IF window so to speak of. I know there is always the possibility of regaining weight but I truly feel at this point that I am in control. NEVER experienced that feeling at all. i still wonder about fruit. It seems they all should be good for you. But I am learning to rethink my options and choices. I guess an occasional banana is good for you. But berries are a better choice. I look at recipes and try to think how I could make them LC or KETO friendly. Sometimes they work, others times I scratch my head and wonder. But I am able to wear my size 6 skirts and 8 zipper dresses that I have held on to for years. Yes, I finally did it....and I FEEL so much better!2 points -

Thursday, October 4 Keep perceiving what the will of Jehovah is.—Eph. 5:17.
Alexa reacted to GrumpysWife for a topic
Thursday, October 4 Keep perceiving what the will of Jehovah is.—Eph. 5:17. There are numerous situations for which the Bible provides no specific command. For example, the Scriptures do not contain detailed rules regarding what kind of clothing is appropriate attire for Christians. How does this reflect Jehovah’s wisdom? Styles and customs vary not only in different parts of the world but also from one decade to the next. If the Bible had provided a list of acceptable styles of dress and grooming, it would now be out-of-date in that regard. For similar reasons, God’s inspired Word does not provide a lot of rules designed to govern a Christian’s choice of employment, health care, and entertainment. What should we do in situations that do not involve a direct Bible command? Under such circumstances, it is our personal responsibility to examine the details and make a choice that is guided, not by mere personal preference, but by what Jehovah will approve of and bless.—Ps. 37:5. w16.05 3:2, 61 point -

Things have certainly gone from bad to worst and it is more evident as each day passes. Take every precaution you can to make yourselves feel safe as you continue to preach in these very last days. If we are disturbed by the news we hear, we can be certain that the general public are much closer to - faint out of fear -than we are. Right now we can be happy that they still verbally tell us to get the bleep out of their yard instead of shooting first and asking questions later. Maybe we should be thinking ahead of time of what to say if we are caught in an unfavorable situation. Jehovah teaches us that An answer when mild turns away rage. What are some answers or suggestions we can share with one another?1 point

Lyrics to October's JW Broadcast: (Compliments of Brother Chew) The Search JW Broadcasting—October 2018 We heard the words ‘seek and you’ll find’ The very priceless pearl of truth. It was a sea of doubts and questions to God That the search would take us through. But we carried on with our sails unfurled. Like merchants on a quest, we knew that truth was out there. The search—the search for the key To answer all the things, Things that we fight to understand: The origin of man, wondering why we need God’s Kingdom soon to come. Searching hard to find. We had never known God had a name. Jehovah is the one to call on. When we were shown, we found a piece Of what we were searching for. And we carried on with our sails unfurled, Finding truths about where we came from and where we’re heading. The search—the search for the key That answered all the things, Things that we fought to understand: The origin of man, a paradise that’s promised in God’s Kingdom soon to come. Search and you will find. Now we can never hold back when others are searching For the priceless pearl of truth, Sailing a sea of unanswered questions. So we help them to get through, And we share what we’ve discovered. The search—the search for the key To answer all the things, Things that they fight to understand: The origin of man, living forever in God’s Kingdom soon to come. Search and you will find. WhatsApp with You?

Here in Italy, practically everyone uses WhatsApp! There's no limit to the length of messages you can send. You can also use bold, italic, strikethrough and extrawide text and endless smileys. You can send photos, videos (even those that are too large to send via normal email), documents, links... You can make voice calls and video calls. And if you have unlimited wi-fi (as we do), then all this is totally free! Personally, I use WhatsApp to stay in touch with relatives in Australia and friends in Italy, Venezuela, USA, Canada, Ghana, Spain and Slovenia. It's amazing! On a congregation level we have two WhatsApp groups: The congregation group and each service group. The elders remind us of congregation or service group arrangements for field service, or of any changes due to weather or other circumstances. They also inform us of other congregation activies. When we have assemblies or conventions they use WhatsApp to make sure everyone has transport or accomodation. Recently, before the CO's visit, our service overseer used it to complete the appointments for field service. Each member of the group is free to post anything of interest - experiences, photos, videos. Sometimes someone will use it to find a companion for field service. One brother visited the new World Headquarters and then shared his photos with us all. Often brothers will post photos from field service. In winter, we often share photos of how each family is snowed in!! We have a lot of fun! I must add that our congregation is in the mountains in a sparsely populated area and we're all spread out in many little villages. The families tend to be rather isolated from each other. For example, my husband and I are the only witnesses in our village. So our use of WhatsApp actually contributes in a way to our unity.1 point -

And it’s great that our older Bro and sis are taking part in the chat as well, we love their enthusiasm and also their sense of humour, it’s been a great leveller 😀😀1 point -

Ironically enough, I've been avoiding the forums for a bit as it gets too stressful for me to keep up with or write with obsessive compulsions. That's part of why it's better that I avoid intermittent fasting until absolutely necessary and warn people who might have other health implications. If you have or are prone to chronically elevated cortisol and blood sugar dysregulation due to chronic adrenal fatigue, sleep disorders, infections, etc, then intermittent fasting can contribute to the cortisol issue which will hinder you from shedding belly fat or raising insulin sensitivity. Being in a chronically revved up metabolic state not only burns through your nutrition on neurotransmitters and hormones quickly but also inhibits digestion, meaning that you need to eat more quantity or higher quality (organ meats, liver) along with supplements to help break down the food in order to get an adequate amount of micronutrients. Learning how to cope with these frail bodies can be such a pain right now, for sure... but I find it so amazing at times how researching and coming to understand this biology and applying it on the individual level has improved my relationship with and trust in Jehovah. Even in a sinful and fundamentally broken state our bodies have an unbelievably amazing ability to adapt and heal, and we have even been given the mental ability to biohack our own bodies for optimal performance... it's the most metaphysical experience that I know of. What other God except Jehovah would be so gracious with us sinners? We need courage to keep on fighting, even against our own flesh, so that we can give our best service to Jehovah as a sacrifice of praise. (Psalm 139:14) I praise you because in an awe-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, I know this very well. (2 Corinthians 3:17) Now Jehovah is the Spirit, and where the spirit of Jehovah is, there is freedom. (Galatians 5:1) For such freedom Christ set us free. Therefore, stand firm, and do not let yourselves be confined again in a yoke of slavery.1 point -
