https://www.sbs.com.au/news/trump-to-dump-1987-gorbachev-reagan-nuclear-missile-treaty?cx_cid=edm:newswe:2019 Trump is pulling out of a 30 year treaty with Russia that bans a wide array of nuclear weapons because Moscow violated the agreement. When asked what that meant practically, he said "We'll have to develop those weapons." https://www.sbs.com.au/news/trump-unsatisfied-with-saudi-response-to-journalist-death-but-backs-arms-deal "We have $450 billion, $110 billion of which is a military order, but this is equipment and various things ordered from Saudi Arabia," Trump told reporters. "It's over a million jobs; that's not helpful for us to cancel an order like that. That hurts us far more than it hurts them," he added, noting Riyadh could obtain the weapons from other countries like China or Russia. "But there are other things that could be done, including sanctions." .....oh, the insanity......🙄4 points -

France and Germany will meet Russia and Turkey this October for a four-way summit on Syria, a potentially groundbreaking gathering that could finally see key EU states working together with local players to end the war. The meeting will focus on "the situation on the ground, the Idlib agreement and the political process," according to Erdogan's spokesman Ibrahim Kalin. It will aim to "harmonize joint efforts for finding a lasting solution" to the devastating seven-year conflict in Syria. Russia welcomed the participation of Western powers. President Putin is against "isolationism" and is looking for "dialogues with all countries and all leaders," his spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. With German and French participation at the highest level, the meeting has all the makings for a pivotal milestone on the way to a solution for Syria, experts have told RT. https://www.rt.com/news/441768-summit-syria-turkey-russia/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=RSS2 points

Trump said Friday he would discuss reducing nuclear weapons when he meets Putin in Helsinki. "If we can do something to substantially reduce them, I mean, ideally get rid of them, maybe that's a dream, but certainly it's a subject that I'll be bringing up with him," Trump said. "The proliferation is a tremendous, I mean, to me, it's the biggest problem in the world, nuclear weapons, biggest problem in the world." Meanwhile, America's top nuclear commander has described a grim scenario for U.S. forces facing off against these new types of high-speed weapons that both Russia and China are developing. "We don't have any defense that could deny the employment of such a weapon against us," Air Force Gen. John Hyten, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee in March. This means that, as of now, the U.S. has to rely on deterrence against these so-called hypersonic weapons, he said. "Both Russia and China are aggressively pursuing hypersonic capabilities," Hyten said. "We've watched them test those capabilities." https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/13/russia-new-hypersonic-missile-likely-ready-for-war-by-2020.html1 point -
For some reason I don't believe the life of a journalist will be viewed with the same weight as the life of an Archduke. At the end of the day nobody is really going to care all that much. Austrian Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated by a Bosnian Serb. Austria then declared war on Serbia. In contrast a Saudi journalist was killed while in Saudi custody at a Saudi embassy. Who would Saudi Arabia declare war on? Itself?1 point

Sunday, October 21 Unrighteous people will not inherit God’s Kingdom.—1 Cor. 6:9. We must certainly avoid choosing to practice the serious sins that some in Corinth had been guilty of. That is vital if we are to say that we have accepted God’s undeserved kindness and that ‘sin is not master over us.’ However, are we also determined to be “obedient from the heart” by doing our best to avoid sins that some would view as less serious? (Rom. 6:14, 17) Think of the apostle Paul. We can be sure that he was not sharing in the gross wrongs mentioned at 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Nonetheless, he confessed that he was still guilty of sin. He wrote: “I am fleshly, sold under sin. For I do not understand what I am doing. For I do not practice what I wish, but I do what I hate.” (Rom. 7:14, 15) This shows that there were other things that Paul viewed as sins, and he was fighting against those wrongs too. (Rom. 7:21-23) May that also be true of us as we strive to be “obedient from the heart.” w16.12 1:15, 161 point

I recently recorded and watched a documentary moderated by the actor and vintner, Sam Neill. It's called Great Innovation..The Rise of Australian Wine. It mentioned that Australia is now the 5th largest exporter of wine on earth. They talked a lot about Penfold's and their Grange Hermitage wine. This fact surprised me, that 98% of Australian wine is screw-capped. Shows what a change in thinking about corked wine.. It's on National Geographic if anyone is interested in looking it up...It was quite interesting.1 point

I appreciate more and more how many ways there actually are that “BtheG” holds people in a viselike grip. Fear, unscriptural practices, politics, tickeling of the ears. But yet Jehovah can still draw people out of these contrary practices. His statement of ‘ Get out of her my people’ shows there are still some of Jehovah’s children, our brothers and sisters, who need help getting out of this viselike grip. Although I was never involved in church the world and it’s ways held a viselike grip on me. Still have to fight it. Easy to trick ourselfs into thinking we have succeeded and let our guard down. Constantly need to hold on to Jehovah’s hand.1 point

Thomas Walker, Nice observation. I think very soon (couple of years or so) we should see much more developments in regards to KOTN. Interesting events are awaiting for us. Russia and China are probably the main ones and then other countries (allies) will be more visible soon. For now it is still blurred I think. Its like when you direct the camera lens toward the object and manually trying to adjust the sharpness (focus). Not much left now I think bu if not, at least iour watchfulness will keeps us spiritually awake.1 point

Things do not translate across all areas, cultures, and technologies, as someone here said, and I apologize again for any confusion. I think a few of the most recent comments are good-natured teasing. It does remind me of one brother I knew years ago who had this particular 'shtick.' Whenever anyone would crack a truly hilarious joke that had everyone in stitches, he would wait till the laughter had almost faded out before saying, in mock perplexity: "Um.....I don't get it," and that would crank up the laughter all over again. Good will to all. Just having fun here. There is nothing like chumming around with the friends. As long as I am at it, I will spill another: Last week's Watchtower featured a brother named Tom who almost jumped to the wrong conclusions upon finding a brother holding hands with a woman not his wife. Thankfully, he did some investigating before mouthing off, and discovered that she was his fleshly sister. After a few comments, I raised my hand and said: "In hindsight, I was rather embarrassed over the whole thing, and I am glad I did not blow the brother in." I am still working on this week's meeting, which features an elder named Tom. I am unsure which way it will go, but it may be something like: "Brothers, sister Cloudnine just laid a little dilemma on us. Maybe we can take time to discuss it now. It shouldn't take more than two or three hours. Oh, and that life that you think you have? Forget about it."1 point -

Yes. The point is not to read any significance into specific absences. There are always some for many reasons. It is more the pattern revealed that is helpful. You a) learn new names, and b) spot it when people are having difficulty. If anyone has ever said ‘Wow! I haven’t seen so-and-so forever’ and feels bad for not having spotted it before, this is the answer. (It would look a little silly if everyone was doing it, though)1 point -
