  4. A brother told us, at this morning's meeting, that he had received some ' inside information' that November's Monthly Broadcast was going to be extra special, and that we wouldn't want to miss it. EVERY Monthly Broadcast is extra special and I wouldn't want to miss any of them. Still...it makes you wonder...🤔

  6. Sheep? Maybe a couple? From some of the comments, it'll certainly sort out the sheep from the goats? When the majority find out how to 'join' I suspect there may be a cooling off. https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2018/11/205_258119.html?fbclid=IwAR3EwxHoR0gWlTuqMU5-rUHidbZiHwDgOI35Wfe414YPT-sDKn_iuohODW4 The Supreme Court's ruling on conscientious objection to military service last week is bringing an "unexpected" side effect ― a growing interest in the Jehovah's Witnesses, a religion whose adherents refuse to perform the mandatory commitment. Many people are asking questions to beat the system by using the ruling. "I am asking in a hurry because I can be exempt from military service. How can I register myself as a Jehovah's Witness?" a person wrote on a website. Another online user also said he welcomed the Supreme Court ruling, hoping he could legitimately avoid military service by joining Jehovah's Witnesses. He later replied that the religion often stations recruiters near subway stations. And then there's this apparently from us: On the other hand, Jehovah's Witnesses say there are obligations that need to be fulfilled to be part of the religion including spending 50 hours a week doing missionary work and not celebrating Christmas and other anniversaries. Someone caught violating the terms will have their religious status revoked. I wonder if doing aux pioneer work (50 hrs/month) is the condition set by the court for getting the exemption.

  7. I am writing this for a very dear witness friend of mine who used to live in England a couple of decades ago. Currently she is living in the United States being a full time caregiver to her 91 year old ailing mother. Because her circumstances are what they are, she would like to make her way back to England when she is free to do so (North Yorkshire is where her heart is). In the meantime, she would LOVE to cultivate friendships with friends from England (she needs to have this to look forward to just to get through all the challenges she faces now [without much help, I might add]. It would be such a great encouragment to her and really give her something to look forward to. She is single (so single or married sisters would be the best). If there are some of you out there who live in England who might even know other witnesses straight from North Yorkshire that you could put her in touch with - that would be fantastic! I hope someone here has room in their heart to reach out and see if you can stand one more friend in your life! If anyone is willing to reach out to her - please PM me with your name and email address and I will give it to her to contact you.

You're here...there's bound to be at least some controversy. I mean, who has ever seen a turtle with a beard? You'll have paparazzi at your door, you'll trip over your beard and die. This just isn't going to end well LOL

Here’s a movie I can heartedly recommend - Lion. It’s a true story of a little boy from an impoverished village who finds himself lost when he accidentally boards a long distance train. He ekes out an existence in the crowds of Calcutta, escaping many horrible situations, loneliness and hunger. Eventually he is brought to an orphanage, and adopted out to a family in Tasmania. They raise him up, but when he attends university he starts to have flashbacks of his infancy in India, and the pull to find his family back home consumes him. It’s quite amazing his perseverance using google earth, and the climax is raw emotionally. And there is a reason why the movie is called Lion, not apparent until the end. Thumbs up 👍

  11. Oh wow! That's just weird! It's just another manifestation of misinformation, big time! So, they won't be one of JWs for the blessings of eternal life in paradise, but will "sign up" just so they can avoid some time in compulsory military service. Yeah....

  15. Habitant is split pea. It's one of the basic survival foods that is used in times of crisis (hope I'm explaining that right, that's what it says in my cookbook). It's very nourishing and sustaining. I now cook for 4 of our disabled/low income friends and pea with smoky ham soup is what was on the menu today. I also put in micro-chopped carrot, potato and onion. Someone told me that bean with ham (bacon) soup is also a Habitant food. I'm not sure but it's also one I use for our friends. Made that one 3 days ago. When our friends go to the food bank beans, split peas and rice are a few of the staples given. Sustaining staples. https://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/habitant-pea-soup this isn't a recipe I like but it gives you a bit of a description.

  21. I have often wondered why so many choose to stay in areas like Russia and Venezuela? Is it because they can’t leave, they’re staying for the preaching work or they don’t have the means to leave?.... I know eventually the entire world will face such things, I just often wonder why some people stay in what I would term a disaster area. I pray for all dear ones in such locations....

  23. Maybe she can just join and lurk? It's quite a nice bunch of brothers and sisters here, and we don't bite I like the extended association we can have here, especially when our circumstances make it hard to be out there mixing with others (not advocating that this replace our congregations, just to add to the association). In any case, I hope she finds someone to tee up with from the UK. ❤️

  26. Clayton Woodworth was one of the seven brothers, including the Society’s then president, J. F. Rutherford, who were sent to Atlanta Federal Penitentiary on false charges at the climax of World War I in 1918 but were released in 1919 and exonerated thereafter. We used to have a Brother in our Congregation that was related to Clayton Woodworth. He had a letter that Woodworth had written while in prison that he shared with us.

  30. New update: JW Website Languages v2.2.shortcut Fixed bug where it didn’t notice there was only a single new language announcement on WOL. The brothers are thorough and clever enough to display “New language available” when there is one language to announce, instead of “New languages available.” Script only looked for “New languages available.” Sample for those unable to use shortcut: JW Languages List.html

  33. Clayton J. Woodworth was an early associate of CT Russell. He was a full-time minister for the IBSA in 1894. He was one of the compilers of the Finished Mystery (7th vol of the Studies in the Scriptures book). He became the first editor of our Golden Age magazine that is now called Awake. William E. Van Amburgh was another early associate of CT Russel. He was associated with the IBSA prior to 1900 (letters in the Watchtower in 1895). He was elected a director in 1901 and the Sec Treas in 1903. He resigned this post due to health reasons in 1947 and died that same year. In 1925, Br. Van Amburgh wrote the book “The Way to Paradise” for younger ones to be used in special schools for teaching them. It was published by the Watchtower Society for several years. These men (and others) are a part of our “Spiritual Heritage”. Loved by many and today remembered by few.

  37. Oh trust me i do understand! If it was me I couldnt leave the city I’m in, much less this country 😔 i Just didn’t know if all them couldn’t leave due to poor circumstances or if some chose to stay to help others... I guess i just hope deep down that soon all of Jehovah’s people can get some relief from Satan’s missiles...I know I couldn’t leave my spiritual family, it just makes me wonder what their inner choices are for staying I guess.... 😣

  38. Natasha sweetie, it's just not possible for many. Many of our brothers and sisters are excruciatingly poor, they wouldn't have money for a bus ride let alone a plane ticket for themselves and their whole family. That's not to mention the difficulty of getting a passport and a visa and permanent residence in a country where you have no fleshy relatives. They simply cannot start walking to a border only to be turned back because they have no papers ... they would probably be killed before they got halfway ...or And how many of our friends are living in religiously divided households, have dependent or elderly relatives or are themselves too old or sick to migrate to another country. It's simply not a viable option for many. If there is war or famine people flee with nothing to refugee camps thag are there because the governments of the neighbouring countries negotiate them but harsh living conditions or poverty must simply be endured by the vast majority of the brotherhood. Of course some more wealthy could leave and CHOOSE to stay to support the brothers and keep the preaching work going.... we cannot judge them either way. Jehovah supports both cases if they have made their decision prayerfully...

  39. I am at a loss for words, after viewing the video, and that is unusual for me. My heart hurts so much for our Venezuelan family. But think of the new ones coming in, that Bro. Morris mentioned, what a sweet blessing for the ones who remain in the country keeping focused on the kingdom. Ps 126:5-6 5 Those sowing seed with tears Will reap with a joyful shout. 6 The one who does go out, though weeping, Carrying his bag of seed, Will surely return with a joyful shout, Carrying in his sheaves

  40. Can you recount how many in your own congregation, or even service group, with the means necessary to leave the country at a moment’s notice when things go bad? Some could probably go, but I guess quite a lot would not be able to leave.

  41. The numbers are shocking but the report was very encouraging. I know Jehovah will support the brothers and sisters especially those traumatized by rape or attacks and that have lost loved ones. ISAIAH 41:13 " For I, Jehovah your God, am grasping your right hand, The One saying to you, ‘Do not be afraid. I will help you"
