    A good joke

Descartes walks into a bar and asks for a pint of beer. The barman says "I think you've had enough to drink today." He says "I think not" and disappears!

It was the first time since the Demilitarized Zone was created in 1948 to divide the two Koreas that troops from either side crossed the demarcation line peacefully, South Korea's Ministry of Defense noted. ... Porch pirates

It's that time of year where porch pirates abound. You know, the person that pulls up in front of a house and grabs a recently delivered package. I hope no one here has been victimized by a porch pirate. I'm wondering if Amazon will eventually offer to include a GPS tracker in your order for an extra fee. For example, for an extra $5 they include a transmitter in your box, if your box arrives safely you put the transmitter in a prepaid envelope and mail it back to them. If they dont receive it back within a certain time, they charge you for it. When they ship your package they email a tracking code that you use on a site designed to track their packages. Once the package is delivered to you and its logged into their system as being delivered, you get a text notification if it moves from its last location. That allows you to track the package to your porch and track it if it unexpectedly moves. If you receive the package, you confirm you received it and the transmitter stops sending any notifications. Does that sound feasible?

    Baptists Sex Abuse

Such horrible news. Sad to say this happens in Jehovah's organization. There are lawsuits out there. Just recently an elder in US was disfellowshipped for immoral conduct with sisters and children.(my dear sister's daughter and granddaughters + others) That's why for years the Governing Body says never be alone with someone behind closed doors. Thankfully because of all the press in recent years, the Brothers have put this on JW.org. for ALL to be clear and see where we stand. We Humans are all corrupt. We always need to be aware of what can happen and what to do. From Publisher to Governing Body. Matthew 10:16. I understand this scripture is talking about preaching in this crooked world. But we always need to be awake to wickedness that can surround us in or outside of the congregation. https://www.jw.org/en/news/legal/legal-resources/information/packet-jw-scripturally-based-position-child-protection/

  14. When you live in a country where 1 in 400 people is a registered sex offender, things like this really don’t surprise me. It’s just further confirmation we are living in the latter part of this system of things.

  15. I think it would be a real deterrent. There’s a YouTube video floating around who tried an experiment with including trackers. All in all he lost some trackers. So as a way to recover packages I don’t think it would work. As a deterrent it would keep the more casual thieves away.

    California Fires

Update: SACRAMENTO, Calif. — PG&E has acknowledged to regulators that it found bullet holes, a broken transmission-tower hook and other flaws with equipment at sites where the catastrophic Camp Fire is believed to have started last month. In its most detailed accounting yet of the problems that might have led to the Nov. 8 wildfire that consumed most of Paradise, the beleaguered utility told state officials that its inspectors have found a "broken C-hook" on a high-voltage tower near the community of Pulga, northeast of Paradise. Lawyers for Camp Fire survivors suing PG&E have suggested the broken hook might have allowed a live "jumper" cable to make contact with the tower itself, showering the dry ground below with sparks. Separately, at a power pole in the Big Bend area of Concow several miles away, PG&E employees found that "the pole and other equipment was on the ground with bullets and bullet holes at the break point of the pole and on the equipment," PG&E senior director of regulatory relations Meredith Allen wrote in a letter to the Public Utilities Commission.

    Freedom of Religion

I've just heard on the news in Australia, that the government is pushing for religious equality - the same as equality for gender, age, etc. They say that everyone should be able to worship as they wish in this country. Interesting to see where this goes.

  25. I hope it won't be an issue for the publishers there, but you may want to ask them permission before putting even just their names on the web, especially since they are all published together there in the same spot; all together, that amounts to essentially a database of first and last names. Perhaps you could mitigate this by using first name and just the initial of the last names instead. Otherwise, you should probably ask each person's permission to include their last name in such a database (especially one that can be viewable but anyone with access to the web!) In fact, in some countries, the law may even *require* that permission be sought before doing this with their names.

  26. Attempts to incorporate a key scientific study into global climate talks in Poland have failed. The IPCC report on the impacts of a temperature rise of 1.5C, had a significant impact when it was launched last October. Scientists and many delegates in Poland were shocked and disappointed as the US, Saudi Arabia and Russia objected to this meeting "welcoming" the report. The report said that the world is now completely off track, heading more towards 3C this century rather than 1.5C. Keeping to the preferred target would need "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society". If warming was to be kept to 1.5C this century, then emissions of carbon dioxide would have to be reduced by 45% by 2030. https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-46496967 Just can't wait for a time, when Jehovah steps in and disbands those unruly human governments

  28. Seems to me all that the KJV needs is a comma. It would change the tone of the first part. See if you agree: "And lead us , not into temptation (because that would be unthinkable of God) , but (rather) deliver us from evil". This helps with the thought-bridge between 'lead' and 'deliver'.

We have saved up airline miles on our credit card, so our flight from Albuquerque to New York and back won't cost us anything. So thrilled that our itinerary is completely booked and set! Now it's time to cut down on eating out.

  34. Porch Pirates would just devise a method to defeat the tracker - like tossing the box and/or the tracker back in the front yard after they empty the box into their back seat

  35. Here a delivery company would never just drop off packages in front of your door. They ring the doorbell. If you aren’t at home to sign for it, they will leave the package at a drop off agent, such as a nearby store.

I think that is based on the barcode and scanning at each location. A gps tracking device would tell you if the package moves after it is delivered. You could even notify the police and give them the location.

  41. It might be simpler to Go to JW.org (homepage) Click on About Us (a menu with several options should drop down) Click on Offices & Tours (it should be the third one down on the right-hand list) This will take you to the Office and Tour Information page This page has descriptions, downloadable brochures and links to book you tour dates Enjoy Of course, you could also just click on the Offices & Tours link above and go directly there
