  1. Wow. Tort - hopefully it works out with that. Our chappie who came is an atheist ... we've started a study in the good news brochure ... well he's also an alcoholic so attention span is a little short for now. He's very honest and says he wants to believe but can't, so his head knowledge is stopping his heart, hopefully giving him accurate knowledge will jumpstart the heart. He came to the meeting ... looked at me (Tom was sick so another couple and myself picked him up) and said: "Don't expect me to sing the songs will you? - I said No No just observe so you know what goes on here that's fine. Welllll ... he sung all the songs and was the loudest out of all four of us - very nice voice. Young chap well 44ish ... looking foward to where Jehovah is taking us on this one.

  3. I must say, it's been quite exciting not just for me but our local congregations, there's seems to be an upsurge of studies coming to the meeting. Jehovah blessed me with two coming and another thinking about it. It's very encouraging not just for myself but for my studies and the congregations. How's the Bible Study attendance by you all? Any nice experiences?

  7. Back in the 60s. I was a Londin Trafic cop. My oppo was ex RUC. Hey I could relate so many stories. Andy and I have remained good mates. He served 31 yrs in the job, ending up as an Insprctor. Sadly, poor chap. He always held me in high esteem. According to him, I was a great cop and would have mad it to Superintendant. Now. Sadly Any has had a mixed marital life. His final wife was a great. I have chatted with her and she was great. Sadly that medical enemy cancer caught up and claimed her life. Andy is devistated. He is now talkin suicide. He wants to be with his love, Georgie. I have contacted him and the local congregation. What more can I do?

I'm saving up, but Deb and I are 2 to 7 years away - depending on how well we save. For us the key is having the house paid off first. Half of our expenses are related to the mortgage and with it gone we should be ok.

  10. I almost had a great experience last week. Several weeks ago we were doing early morning street work and I stopped at a carpool lot, it was a Sunday morning and I was surprised to see someone getting out of a work truck at the far end of the lot. I talked to him for a minute and left him a tract, he asked for my phone number in case he had questions. I didn't hear from him for several weeks so I stopped by the carpool lot again and his truck was there, I left a tract and a note for him, he called me two days later. During our conversation he said he wanted a bible so I offered to bring him one, he suggested that he could just meet me at my church! So we made arrangements for him to attend a meeting, unfortunately he texted just before the meeting that he was sick and couldn't make it. Anyway, I have texted him and hope to get him to a meeting soon.

    Our heart...

I read about a kid that put his hand on his butt during the national anthem because he believed his heart was in his butt. He explained to the teacher that his grandma would pinch his butt and say "bless your little heart"

  13. In our Hall we start the song when the Brother who announces it is finished speaking - usually, when they step back from the mic. If there is any delay, it is not noticeable ... a "few seconds" (even 6 to 10) is NOT too long for the music with lyrics to begin. This delay is highly influenced by the speed of the computer playing it.

  14. Found this most interesting article in the Guardian giving an inside look into Christian activity in China. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jan/13/china-christians-religious-persecution-translation-bible Here are a few interesting quotes from the article giving you an idea of what is happening to those that are advancing believes in Christ. Don't know if I should be fearing for our brothers or be happy about BtheG being attacked. You can also imagine what would happen if we had official places of worship in China. Definitely an argument to be made that the Chinese government behaves like their father corrupting God's word of truth. You have to admire people that believe in the Bible and do whatever the Bible teaches them to do, you only wonder how God will introduce them to a visible representative of his people. This explains a lot why Chinese tourist who go by our carts with Chinese artwork in the SMPW work show sometimes a disdain for our message, almost like evangelists in the US Bible belt.

  15. We built the house we live in. It’s been a long job, but, we don’t owe anyone. I shop resale shops as much as possible. I know how to stretch money. From days gone by... We don’t really travel, though, my granddaughter is heading for Germany to go to a university, and my daughter would like me to come and see her before she leaves. They live in Canada. I have a good service car, enough money to take care of my needs, and a bit to share. With the system as tenuous as it is, I’m feeling that we should be is in a situation where, if the need be, we can pay off anything we owe from money we have. Right now, there is a bit on my car, and my husband just bought a new truck. He’s good with money, and, it is close to being paid off. I used to hope Jehovah would retire with the systems end. Now, all I want to do is live to see it!

  16. I benefited from your suggestions about steaming eggs. I have an electric pressure cooker, so I put the collapsible steamer inside the pot with water under it and used the 5-5-5 method. I think next time I will try 4 1/2 min.for the cook phase..they were a little overcooked..not much though..👵

  19. I think the only way I'd do a cold cooked farm egg, like a boiled/peeled egg, would be to crack a dozen and whip in a bowl, I use my stick blender, and put in my big 6 count muffin tin with canadian/regular bacon or sausage and green onion. That way you have cooked cooled portable egg to take on the go. Done it also with thin sliced asparagus. Ummm or another way is with taco meat, I like that one.

  21. I remember in school arguing with a girl over that when I was 11-12. I kept telling her during science class "the heart is in the center, not the left, that's your shoulder socket!" as she kept making the argument that I was wrong because during national anthems people often place their hand on the left of the chest. Which I then asked the teacher to educate her on as she did not believe me, and so the teacher did, lol.

Now I like chia pudding. Great with a little cinnamon too. Since the seeds are whole its a little crunchy. LOL Never tried farm fresh eggs in the instant pot. But they’d probably be just as easy to peel. Kinda skirt’n the questions aren’t I?

  24. Since I can't formally preach yet I don't have studies. But a friend of mine who's depressed and has the life goal of cryogenically freezing himself till a better future comes... attended meeting today after 3 weeks of asking him to come and praying he'd make it eventually. So I'm thankful to Jehovah for that.

Hi Loopy, Liquid not required? Where's the liquid, water, coconut milk, almond milk, etc? [emoji6] I ask because coconut flour soaks up everything like a sponge. Also for chia seeds I let them sit in a liquid for a few minutes first before cooking so I can get perceived better digestion and health benefits. I'd experiment by combining the flax and Chia seeds and let them soak in a liquid that may help with getting them to stick together. If your budget allows add 12 grams collagen protein to that "for richer, fuller smoother hair skin and nails"... [emoji6] Sound like a commercial... [emoji23] FYI I put Chia seeds in my Greek Plain Fat Free protein yogurt concoctions! I let them sit in coconut milk first for about 5 minutes before concocting! 29. I'm surprised at this, considering that you are in an area where people don't want care anything about religion. Wow. I don't know how many studies people have in my congregation, but there may be only one the KH routinely. There was one other guy who would show up once every month or two, but I haven't seen him in months. There are about 100 publishers here. One of my friends recently described preaching in this area as panning for gold. Sounds about right.

I googled my problem and one solution was ro move the app. The screen goes black when I tap to go back to a publication, which is annoying..so I decided to try moving the app back to device..and it worked!!!😎

    The power of water

In working on the roof of the old Kingdome we used ultra-high water pressure at 40,000 to 66,000 pounds pressure. A mis-directed stream would cut right thru a boot severing the toes. Steel toe foot wear was a requirment. BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY featured our work in one of his shows. I made put his director in contact with a local company that usese water to mill titanium, as per the article above. A sidelight to the show, which I have never seen, was my two grandsons were wachting Bill NYE in New Hampshire and called out to my daughter "Mom come here, PAPA is on BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY."

  34. I got an example of this just a few hours ago. We have a grandson over for the night. He will be 7 tomorrow. He has been doing things with me most of the day and has been fine. After dinner we let him play with his IPad. House rules are no violent games. Well, he had some rough ones on his tablet and I wasn't really paying attention so he was doing some slice and dice and shoot em up stuff, volume down low. After awhile he told me he was feeling mad, and didn't know why. We talked for a couple of minutes and then I asked him what game he was playing. After I saw it I asked him if maybe that's why he was angry. We reasoned it out pretty good for a few minutes and I told him that's why we don't do violent games, I don't like them and God doesn't like them. He understood fairly well. He says he wants to please God and he doesn't understand why other people don't want to. We did some reasoning on that too....

    Retirement

Well I'm retired too. It's been a year now, although I still work as a replacement from time to time if someone wants a day off. I never wanted to stop completely. I'm not in the US though, so no 401k's here. We have RRSP's (registered retirement savings plan), which look roughly the same. Even if I wasn't still working once in a while, I still think the Canadian government treats us retirees well here. Of course, I still have to watch my expenses and stay out of debt (so far I'm succeeding), but I'm mostly comfortable. Thank you for bringing up the subject @Miss Bea.

  37. Thats why we have the CLM. Christian Living Ministry. Its better to obey Jehovah in everything. Or else, we can't avoid the consequences. For example, a brother who wants to avoid the military service but play shooting/violent games is a halfhearted witness. Watchtower study on Sunday reminds us to obey Jah in all things.

    Retirement

I’m noticing good ideas on retirement in a thread on personal loans. Both my husband and I are retired. On not a lot of money, by the world’s standards. We have our Social Security, some union retirement funds for both of us, and he bought land to sell for our retirement. And it has worked. We should not care much when we are bare bones, in our 90’s! No morgage, land taxes are there, but not bad. We also both have 401k’s that are not impressive, but for us, nice. We both can do what is important to us. Are there plans or ideas you’d like to share?

  42. I agree. I don't think that the S Korean government is specifically targeting our brothers. I have read somewhere recently that many young men in S Korea were happy about the court ruling on conscientious objectors. They see it as an opportunity to dodge the draft by becoming JWs. The S Korean government knows this and just wants to make sure that only genuine conscientious objectors do the non-military service. What is more, S Korea is technically still at war with N Korea. It has never signed a peace treaty with its neighbour after the war ended in the mid 1950s. Hostilities could start at any moment. That is why all S Korean men are still required to go through the military service regardless of status and wealth.

  45. This is by no means a suggestion for anyone else, but my bar is - once one of Jehovah's laws is broken then I back away from it. So for me the key is knowing and understanding Jehovah's laws. And the other factor : Is it being reported on (as in the news) or is it unnecessarily graphic. Like the brother that got up from the movie in the theatre (2018 Courage Convention) - possibly the movie advertised was okay with his conscience initially, but once he watched it - maybe some content caught him by surprise. Or maybe his conscience DID bother him initially, and it took something more to give him the courage to get up and walk out. There are so many variations, spiritual levels, experiences, and research - you can't say which goes with who - only yourself.

  47. Along the same idea, I'm a building contractor. In my secular life, MUCH is subjective. A client can ask me how much I charge and my answer can be "How much you got?" or, "depends on the mood I'm in." I realized a long time ago that I need to be FREE of anxiety as I go door to door. I cannot worry about who could be behind the door. Whether it's a client or not. So, I make it a point to be fair with all my clients. If one of them opens the door I can smile big and ask how's everything ? Because I have NOTHING to be ashamed of. I can't imagine living any other way. It seems the South Korean prosecutor is a smart counselor. The definition of Integrity is "doing the right thing even when no one is watching"

  48. This reminds me of something a brother said many years ago, he asked 'if you were arrested as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, would there be enough evidence to convict you?' We think the limits of our conscience is just between us and Jehovah, there may be times that we do something that our conscience allows us to do, however again we need to think of how others will view the things we do. In this case, whether or not a brother felt it was okay to play violent video games may make the difference whether or not he goes to jail.

    Retirement

I am contributing for my 401 K Plan, the max that is matched by my employer. So 10% of my annual income goes to that account. Besides ss contributions I am obliged to contribute to a pension plan. We re financed our house for 15 years to match with my early retirement (62) if the law does not change. Since the houses where I live are more expensive than the national average, we will be able to buy a smaller house in Florida in 15 years if this system lasts. If it does not, and hopefully wont , we do not have to worry about it. The worse scenario is to move to another country where the cost of living is lower and does not have a high crime rate. I moved from a different country already. Moving again would not bother me as long as it is warm and sunny. All the countries in that classification need help in the English field. And there are safe and cheaper countries close to US. Panama and Costa Rica are only two examples. There are websites for retirees that want to move to more affordable places. I checked a few already. Anyway compared with the rest of the planet , being in US is not bad at all.
