My wife and I have spent almost 50 years trying to figure out what "next" means. Is the day after tomorrow "this coming Wednesday and the 23nd is the next Wednesday (after that)"? Or is the day after tomorrow the "next Wednesday"? If it is, what is "this" Wednesday?8 points
-
It is almost an idiom in American English. When you are speaking on the 7th of January and referring to a coming series of events and you are trying to say they will arrive shortly (but at an undefined interval)....we might say they will arrive in a couple of weeks. It is generic for "hopefully, before February" since there are only 3 Mondays to follow.... As Br. Lett said, "In less than six months..."...😄8 points

Well, I'm not one of the "smart guys." But I think it would be safe to say that parts 2 & 3 would be at the same January link, even if there are two weeks between parts 1 and 2. For example, in December we had the Gilead Graduation. But parts 1, 2 & 3 were all at December's link, even though there was a similar two-week gap between parts 1 and 2. Either way, it should come up within the next six months.7 points

w00t, I am here now!! Going through immigration was a breeze, especially as my wife was able to take the same 11-hour flight. Just no idea when I might get my SSN (gov't shutdown) or let alone green card so going with wife's salary for the time being, ugh... At least we FINALLY get to start our married life! Scared going to my new congregation for the first time tomorrow night, though.5 points -

AS I am a building inspector I have often thought of this - many materials are only made to last 50 to 100 years. What happens when they rust or decay from age? Well, this will start happening more and more I think. Few put much emphasis on maintenance any more.5 points -

Songs for grief
dilip kumar and 3 others reacted to Hope for a topic
I love making music CDs/USBs for the friends! You're doing a lovely thing... but I'm wondering, why would you want to do one "for grief"? Very often, the songs most often sung at funerals bring people to tears. I don't think I'd want to hear songs just for that purpose. Maybe more effective would be just random great songs from our songbook - don't forget our Original Songs, too! Music has a way of bringing emotions up or distracting us from other emotions. A random selection might be more cheery, spiritual tunes. Just a suggestion4 points -
Can you imagine what it costs to produce these Bibles? And Jehovah gives this translation as a gift to us. The best Bible translation ever produced in history, and he gives it as a gift to truth-seeking people.4 points

Love the idea that our firewall should be our love for Jehovah. We get to show the depth of our love for our Heavenly Father when we do what is right without having to be policed.4 points

I'm not sure of what part you're talking about. But there's nothing in the scriptures to indicate otherwise. I would have thought getting married was a natural thing for some in the New System - the marriage arrangement was instituted in Eden prior to Adam and Eve sinning - so it seems logical to me.4 points -

@Myew please try this method. I found this way to peel bo8led eggs on the Internet and it was truly a game changer for me. I too hated peeling eggs and having them all bumpy while trying to remove little specks of schell. Take a mason jar, or an old pickle jar and fill up half way with very cold water. Place 2 or three eggs in it and recap. Shake three to Four times like you would a cocktail shaker then uncap and peel! The thin membrane sticks to the shell and leaves the egg as smooth as a new born baby’s behind! I make boiled eggs eggs several times a week for egg salad, salad, fried hard boiled eggs etc. sooooo easy and smooth! You can also google using using mason jar to peel eggs for a short video clip! Let me know what you think. I avoided making deviled eggs for years because I hated to peel them. Judging from the price of already peeled eggs in the grocery store many must feel the same!4 points -

So much for "life's water free". That blows my mind. At work, a coworker was at the time a pastors son(he quit to run the church), and he asked me how the congregation makes money seeing as we don't charge dues or have sponsored carnivals and fundraisers. We threw a congregation picnic and when he found out that there were no fees, he almost went into seizures.3 points -

Thanks, I'll give it a try. ❤️ I usually cook my eggs a bit soft though, so I don't know how they'll hold up. What I would usually do is crack the top of the egg gently with a spoon which lets steam out, and then steam them for about 9 minutes in a tray steamer. It's not worth it to me to break out the instant pot first thing in the morning and taking the time for it to heat up or cool down just for a couple of eggs... 8 minutes will leave the yolks runny, 9 minutes a little runny. I try not to cook the proteins overmuch, there's some nutrition benefits to more raw. Then I would pry off a bit of the top from the crack and stick the spoon in and work my way around it... but since I cook them soft they usually stick to the shell and break halfway and I'm sick of cleaning yolk off the counter and floors. I'm so tired and burnt out and lazy, I just want to eat already. 😿 I read fast when I am manic at 2AM...3 points

Since I can't formally preach yet I don't have studies. But a friend of mine who's depressed and has the life goal of cryogenically freezing himself till a better future comes... attended meeting today after 3 weeks of asking him to come and praying he'd make it eventually. So I'm thankful to Jehovah for that.3 points

I almost had a great experience last week. Several weeks ago we were doing early morning street work and I stopped at a carpool lot, it was a Sunday morning and I was surprised to see someone getting out of a work truck at the far end of the lot. I talked to him for a minute and left him a tract, he asked for my phone number in case he had questions. I didn't hear from him for several weeks so I stopped by the carpool lot again and his truck was there, I left a tract and a note for him, he called me two days later. During our conversation he said he wanted a bible so I offered to bring him one, he suggested that he could just meet me at my church! So we made arrangements for him to attend a meeting, unfortunately he texted just before the meeting that he was sick and couldn't make it. Anyway, I have texted him and hope to get him to a meeting soon.3 points

Jehovah blessed me with two coming and another thinking about it. It's very encouraging not just for myself but for my studies and the congregations. How's the Bible Study attendance by you all? I can get through the first verse and that is it... Jehovah is my shepherd is great .... anything that will lift one’s spirit...2 points -

We use KHAudio (we have MAC computer). The song is cued up and waiting by the software, all I have to do is hit play. The screen blanks and the visuals come up with the title screen of the song. How long it takes after that is built into the video. From "push Play" until the title shows is about 2-3 seconds, followed by a second or two for the title to fade out and the first line of lyrics to appear (and simultaneously the music audio).2 points -

Along the same idea, I'm a building contractor. In my secular life, MUCH is subjective. A client can ask me how much I charge and my answer can be "How much you got?" or, "depends on the mood I'm in." I realized a long time ago that I need to be FREE of anxiety as I go door to door. I cannot worry about who could be behind the door. Whether it's a client or not. So, I make it a point to be fair with all my clients. If one of them opens the door I can smile big and ask how's everything ? Because I have NOTHING to be ashamed of. I can't imagine living any other way. It seems the South Korean prosecutor is a smart counselor. The definition of Integrity is "doing the right thing even when no one is watching"2 points
